Chapter 25: 25 The Scene of the Girl’s Deception
Taking a bath was an incredibly relaxing experience.
As her body and mind fully relaxed, the fatigue accumulated over the past few days disappeared.
The warm water flowed over her body, and for a moment, Kagura Hitomi once again felt the true sensation of "being alive."
Sometimes, when she thought about it, her current situation seemed almost surreal. The "fantasy world" she once dreamed of had now become her reality.
If she had told anyone about this in the past, no one would have believed her.
What would her existence bring to this world? Kagura Hitomi wasn't sure.
All she could do was use every advantage and resource at her disposal to steer this world toward the future she hoped for.
Perhaps, by doing so, the future of this Marvel world could become a better parallel universe through her efforts.
Core Energy: 42%
She was getting a bit hungry…
After her bath, Kagura Hitomi lazily lay on her bed for a nap.
As evening approached, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts returned home.
Finally, after waiting for what seemed like an eternity, dinner was ready.
After dinner, Kagura Hitomi reported to Tony Stark about Coulson's request.
"Design summary? No problem. Just draft a report and let me review it before sending it," Tony Stark told Kagura.
"The report can be a bit vague; that agency won't be able to make any waves with just a conceptual design."
"Got it, I'll get to it," Kagura Hitomi replied with a nod.
"Thanks for doing this. They'll compensate you, right?" Tony asked.
"Do I need to submit it?" Kagura asked, a bit concerned. After all, the Iron Man suit was Tony's, and if he took the compensation, she would have to find another way to proceed with her virtual identity plan.
"No need to submit it. Think of it as overtime pay from me," Tony said, ruffling Kagura Hitomi's head before turning to go downstairs into his underground workshop.
Ah, more head pats...
After Tony left, Kagura Hitomi returned to her room and started sorting through the work she had put off for over a week.
Ding—
The notification sound of an email broke her concentration. Kagura paused and glanced at the bottom-right corner of her screen.
Oh?
Her golden eyes flickered with interest.
Hmph, it came a bit earlier than expected.
The sender was Obadiah Stane.
He was the executive chairman of Stark Industries and Tony Stark's closest business partner.
The content of the email was brief—just a notice:
"Kagura Hitomi, you must have heard that Tony is shutting down Stark Industries' weapons division. This could impact Stark Industries, and possibly even the future of the United States."
"Given this, I'd like to discuss the details of what you and Tony encountered in Afghanistan. Please come to Stark Industries' Arc Reactor project lab tomorrow after clocking in for work."
Ah, here it is, the fish is swimming in... now it's time to reel it in.
A slight smile curved at the corners of her mouth.
The Next Morning, Stark Industries – Arc Reactor Lab
The black sedan stopped at the entrance of the glass building, which housed Stark Industries' large energy lab in Los Angeles.
The principles of the Arc Reactor were no longer new in this world.
But even with a solid theory in place, before Tony Stark created the small Arc Reactor in that cave, the technology had no practical value.
It was huge, energy-inefficient, and the test Arc Reactors here produced more energy than they could sustain.
It reminded her of controlled nuclear fusion technology in the real world.
"Mr. Stane is waiting for you inside. I've arranged everything else for you, and Ms. Potts has already been informed," Happy Hogan, the driver, said. "Call me when you're done."
"Thanks," Kagura Hitomi said with a smile, getting out of the car.
Despite being Stark Industries' lab, it was surrounded by military vehicles and weapons. In fact, it was located within a U.S. military base in Los Angeles.
Regular personnel had no chance to get this close to such a "future clean energy technology."
Kagura swiped her ID badge at the lab door, and it beeped.
"Beep."
The glass doors automatically opened.
Inside the glass structure was a massive Arc Reactor setup.
Blue electric arcs flickered in the circular vacuum glass tunnel, forming an awe-inspiring light circuit that looked straight out of a sci-fi movie.
In front of the giant Arc Reactor stood a bald man in a suit.
"Mr. Stane," Kagura Hitomi greeted as she walked over. "Good morning."
"You're here, Kagura Hitomi. I wanted to talk to you," Obadiah Stane said, turning around with a friendly smile. "I trust you've been well-rested? It must have been tough in Afghanistan. Were you hurt?"
"I'm fine, sir, thank you for your concern," Kagura Hitomi said, bowing slightly in thanks.
"Tony... he really is an incredible genius, isn't he?" Obadiah said, his voice tinged with something else. "I thought I'd lost him forever, but he's back. It's amazing."
Obadiah's words carried a hidden meaning.
He was the one who orchestrated the attack in Afghanistan. Both of them knew it.
If Tony Stark had died, Obadiah would have taken control of Stark Industries, setting himself up for a complete takeover.
That was his ultimate goal.
But he was confident that Kagura Hitomi wouldn't see through the truth—nor did she want to expose him.
"Thanks to Mr. Stark, I was able to survive," Kagura Hitomi said sweetly. "He saved my life, but..."
"But?" Obadiah's expression subtly shifted.
"But he... Mr. Stark hasn't truly come back, has he?" Kagura Hitomi looked up with her beautiful golden eyes, showing a hint of disappointment.
"He's shutting down the weapons division... The Tony Stark we knew hasn't truly returned, has he, Mr. Stane?"
At her words, Obadiah's expression changed visibly.
He paused for a moment, then sighed and smiled sincerely. "Yes, he hasn't returned."
Obadiah walked toward her, patting her shoulder with a pleased nod. "Maybe we've lost Tony for good."
"Mr. Stane, do you really think that's a good idea?" Kagura Hitomi asked carefully. "Shutting down the weapons division will cause major losses, don't you think? The stocks have already started to plummet, and the losses are far beyond what we can handle."
"Yes, but there's nothing we can do. Stark Industries belongs to Tony," Obadiah sighed. "It's his decision. Even I can't interfere, unless through the board…"
"How about we separate the weapons division first, make it a shadow company, and preserve it for the future?" Kagura Hitomi suggested. "If Tony ever changes his mind, I'm sure he'll appreciate that you did this."
Obadiah paused for a moment, his smile more genuine now. "Listen, Kagura Hitomi, I think your suggestion is quite good. If we work together, we can bring Tony back from this wrong path. What do you think? Can you help me?"
"Of course, Mr. Stane," Kagura Hitomi smiled sweetly. "I'll do everything I can to help."
Ah, success! The scam is complete!
