Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Officer Solo.
The sudden betrayal sent a wave of panic through the remaining Hydra soldiers. They simply couldn't comprehend why their comrades—men they'd faced life and death with—were now turning on them. It didn't make sense. Whitehall hadn't issued any unusual orders… then again, to him, these soldiers were expendable.
"What the hell, Bruce?! What are you doing?!"
The black officer shouted, horrified, as he saw one of his men gunning down fellow soldiers. But the man—his eyes glowing faintly red—didn't respond. He just kept firing.
"We're on the same side! You're killing your own men!"
"Why… why are you doing this?!"
"I've been hit! Somebody help!"
The courtyard was chaos. Screams echoed as soldiers scrambled for cover, confusion spreading like wildfire. The black officer's face darkened even more—figuratively and literally.
Then, the communicator in his hand buzzed.
"Are you a complete idiot?!"
Whitehall's enraged voice exploded through the speaker.
"They're under mind control. Eliminate the ones being controlled and resume the mission!"
From a nearby surveillance post, Whitehall watched the carnage unfold. The moment he saw the soldiers turn on each other, he understood—this was the same power that John Garrett had unleashed before. That damned technique again. Kurogai was behind this.
The fact that Kurogai hadn't even shown himself, yet had already neutralized a quarter of the squad, made Whitehall's skin crawl.
And yet... it also ignited his greed.
If I can capture this boy and extract the source of that power… I could control nations.
Driven by both fear and obsession, Whitehall barked another set of orders into the comms. The black officer responded immediately, commanding the remaining troops to focus fire on the controlled ones.
Hydra soldiers who had entered from the back began their counterattack.
The courtyard turned into a brutal standoff—mind-controlled soldiers versus those still free. Bullets flew, comrades fought comrades, and the ground was soaked in blood.

Meanwhile, inside the orphanage…
A Hydra soldier crept cautiously through the hallway, weapon raised. The silence unnerved him.
Then—
"Hey, I'm over here."
The voice was soft… calm… chilling.
The soldier spun, instantly squeezing the trigger.
Bang!
Glass shattered. He'd only hit a mirror.
But in that broken reflection, a pair of glowing, red-tinged eyes stared back at him.
Geass: Absolute Command — Activated.
The inverted V-shaped symbol flashed like a brand. The soldier froze, caught in its glow.
Kurogai stepped from the shadows, face expressionless.
"Answer my questions. Afterward, eliminate the enemy soldiers. Until death."
The command was cold and final. "Until death"—Kurogai always added that clause. Not out of cruelty, but necessity. He was still too weak to take chances. As long as there was a possibility someone could turn against him, he couldn't afford mercy.
Still, a part of him resented it.
One day, he thought, when I've unlocked the full potential of the Ultimate Eye… I won't need commands like that. I'll face my enemies head-on. No Geass. No puppets.
But for now, survival came first.
He focused again.
"Identify yourself. What unit are you with?"
The soldier responded flatly.
"Hydra operative under Officer Solo. Unit designation: JTS-142."
Hydra. Of course.
Kurogai wasn't surprised. S.H.I.E.L.D. at least asked questions before shooting. Hydra never bothered—they only acted with brutality and silence.
"Who is Officer Solo?"
"The black man by the lead vehicle. He's commanding the assault."
Kurogai moved to the window and peered out. His eyes narrowed as he spotted the man in question—Solo.
Got you.
A plan formed almost instantly.
"Interrogation complete. Go."
"Executing command. Eliminating invaders. Until death."
The soldier picked up his rifle and walked out. Without hesitation, he re-entered the battlefield.
Kurogai didn't watch. He didn't need to.
His attention was locked on Officer Solo. Through the dust and fire, through the chaos and noise—that man was next.
