Marvel: My Eyes Defies Fate.

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: X-Men.

"So this is what it feels like... to kill with your own hands."

Kurogai looked down at Whitehall's lifeless body, brows furrowing slightly.

Though he'd commanded death before—ordered others, used his ability—this was different. This was personal. This was direct.

But he didn't feel guilt. After only a brief moment of unease, Kurogai's expression returned to its usual calm.

He turned and walked out of the room.

Now that Hydra's secrets had been laid bare, there was no reason to stay.

Replace Whitehall and lead Hydra?

Not interested.

Whitehall had been right about one thing: Kurogai wasn't a hero. He acted in his own self-interest. Sacrificing himself for others was never part of the equation.

But unlike Whitehall, Kurogai still had something left inside—an ember of warmth. People like Director Mary. Like Skye. That lingering humanity made him different.

His path wouldn't be that of a villain.

Nor a hero.

It would be something else entirely.

As he stepped out into the corridor, a group of Hydra soldiers stood waiting—armed, alert, and obedient. All were under Kurogai's control.

He had planned for this from the start. Against someone like Whitehall, caution was essential. If Whitehall had made any sudden moves, these soldiers were ready to swarm and tear him apart.

"Execute the final order."

Kurogai spoke coldly, not bothering to glance back.

"Yes, sir."

The soldiers bowed, then dispersed to carry out the command.

Moments later, a thunderous boom shook the ground as a massive explosion tore through the Hydra base. Smoke and flame erupted into the sky.

Hydra's facility—obliterated.

It was over.

Standing on the roadside some distance away, Kurogai watched the explosion burn against the horizon. He let out a long breath.

"It's done."

Whitehall was dead. The threat to those he cared about had been erased. For the first time in a long while, Kurogai felt… lighter.

He tilted his head toward the sky and let out a wild, unrestrained howl—raw emotion echoing through the air. All the stress, the rage, the pressure—he let it fly with that roar.

It was catharsis.

It was liberation.

In that moment, something deep within him shattered—something old, something chained. His soul howled with him, rising into the sky like a phoenix reborn in fire.

Far from the smoldering remains of the Hydra base, in a secluded mansion on the outskirts of New York, a man in a wheelchair looked up from the book he'd been reading.

His expression grew still. His eyes narrowed.

Charles Xavier—Professor X—had sensed something. Something... monumental.

Moments later, a woman with striking red hair rushed into the room, still in her lab coat.

"Professor! Something just happened!"

Jean Grey's voice was urgent, her energy rattled.

Professor X didn't turn to her immediately. His eyes were still fixed in the direction of the disturbance.

Only after a long pause did he speak.

"You felt it too, didn't you, Jean? That power."

She nodded, her face pale. "It was overwhelming. For a second... I felt her stir."

The room went silent.

They both knew who "she" was.

Jean didn't need to explain. Professor X understood completely.

And that knowledge unnerved him.

If even she inside Jean Grey—the Phoenix—had stirred... then this new presence wasn't just powerful. It was dangerous.

Extraordinary.

Perhaps even... Omega-level.

Mutant awakenings often happened under stress, trauma, or emotional extremes. If this new mutant couldn't control their power, the consequences could be catastrophic.

Professor X's role was clear: he had to find this individual—before someone else did.

"Jean, get Scott. Prepare the Blackbird. We're leaving now."

Jean didn't question it. She turned and left immediately, urgency in her stride.

Minutes later, the advanced supersonic jet of the X-Men sliced through the clouds, its destination locked on the fiery remains of the Hydra base—and the one who had shattered it.
