Chapter 219: The Complete Unification of Three Mutant Factions
Establishing a nation was no simple matter.
On the contrary, it was an incredibly complex and painstaking endeavor.
Originally, Charles and Erik had intended to leave after their mission. But following Alex's shocking declaration, they both chose to remain at the mutant base for an additional seven days.
During that time, all three mutant factions noticed something unusual—their leaders were frequently in closed-door meetings, disappearing for entire days. No one knew exactly what was going on, but even the most oblivious could tell: something big was brewing.
"We don't need to rush the location decision. There's time to consider that carefully," Charles began in one of their many strategy sessions. "Right now, two problems take priority."
"Money and people."
"Even a small nation demands an unfathomable amount of capital. That's our first and most critical obstacle."
Inside Alex's office, Charles, Erik, and Alex were once again seated around a table, discussing the daunting path to nationhood. Charles laid out the first key hurdle.
"It's unrealistic for just the few of us to raise the funds needed to build a country," Erik added, shaking his head. "We're mutants, not moguls. Powers alone won't earn us billions."
"I've already made some financial preparations," Alex said. "But it's not enough—at least, not yet."
He then explained how he had taken control of the Volturi vampire clan, the Mikaelson family, and of course, his own Rorschach clan.
Yes—during this period, both ancient vampire dynasties had completely fallen under Alex's control.
The remaining members of the Volturi guard had been tracked down by Marcus and others, who swiftly reported to Alex.
He didn't even need to act personally. Instead, he dispatched White Queen, Mystique, and several other capable mutants to take care of it—swift, decisive, effortless.
As for the Mikaelson family, mutant involvement wasn't even necessary. With their leadership eliminated by Alex and no remaining high-level threats, Marcus personally led a team to assume control with ease.
Both vampire clans far surpassed the Rorschach family in power, and their amassed wealth—centuries in the making—was staggering.
Even so, for founding a nation, it was barely enough to scratch the surface. It was a decent foundation—but far from sufficient.
"You know," Erik suddenly mused, "Charles could just use his powers to… persuade a few billionaires or noble families to help. That would solve our money problem overnight."
He looked directly at Charles, clearly considering the idea both practical and efficient.
"Erik, we're building a legitimate nation," Charles replied firmly. "Our funding must come through legitimate means."
Just as expected, Charles immediately rejected the notion.
Erik only gave a small, knowing shake of his head. He hadn't expected agreement, but he had to suggest it.
The trio continued their intense debate over how to secure adequate funds.
Despite a flurry of proposals and back-and-forth arguments, nothing concrete materialized.
Making money had never been easy—no matter the era.
Then came the issue of people.
This had two facets.
First, as the nation would be for mutants, Charles needed to discreetly contact mutant communities around the world—to inform them, if nothing else.
If they abruptly declared the birth of a mutant nation without prior warning, it could backfire. Mutants would be confused, unprepared, and unsure if they should even respond. It would become a farce.
Due to the secrecy required to avoid leaking intelligence, Charles would need to handle this himself.
The second concern involved humans.
Although the nation would be for mutants, it couldn't be entirely about mutants.
Ideally, the new country would be recognized by the international community at the moment of its creation.
If no other nation acknowledged its existence, it would be little more than a rogue state—a hollow declaration.
At the very least, they needed to engage with the United States beforehand. If the U.S. could be brought to publicly support their independence, half the battle would already be won.
Naturally, that task also fell to Charles.
"The Smiling President is a mutant himself. I think we should find the right moment to talk to him," Erik suggested.
Charles nodded—on this point, he and Erik were in full agreement.
Having a fellow mutant as the sitting President of the United States was a tremendous advantage.
And if push came to shove, Charles could simply erase the conversation from the President's memory if things went badly. The risk was minimal.
From every angle, it was worth a try.
Just then, Mystique entered the room mid-discussion.
"Alex, Smith and the others are getting ready to leave."
While the mutants had been busy hunting Decepticons and building the foundations of a nation, the Lorien people hadn't been idle. With help from White Queen, Smith and Henry had scoured the country for their fellow survivors.
Now, the full set of nine Lorien Garde and their nine Cepans had been reunited at the base.
Their mission complete, they no longer had a reason to remain.
They had come to say goodbye.
"They're leaving?"
Alex rose, nodded to Charles and Erik, and followed Mystique out to the central courtyard.
There, Smith, Number Six, Number Four, Henry, and the rest of the Lorien stood ready to depart.
"Alex, on behalf of my people, thank you for everything," Smith said, stepping forward. "Without you, there would be no future for the Lorien."
Then, in a solemn and graceful motion, Smith bowed deeply to Alex, using the traditional Lorien gesture of respect.
One by one, the others followed suit.
"Take care of yourselves," Alex said sincerely, meeting each of their eyes.
"Goodbye, Alex!"
"Farewell!"
And just like that, the Lorien left the base—walking toward their own destiny, even as Alex and the mutants forged theirs.
