Marvel: Upgrading Death

Chapter 9: Chapter 9 - The Redhead, The Celestial & Love Triangle IV

####

Marshall watched from the sky as the scene unfolded. He saw their attire, their moves. That flying man with weird orange magical patterns. That Chinese woman with a golden fist that projected out. That burning skeleton-man riding a burning skeleton mammoth. That white-capped man with crescents being his whole theme. That man in black tight clothes with cat ears. And then that man with a big blonde beard, throwing around the hammer and calling himself Odin.

Now that he looked at Firehair, her body when covered in fire looked like a huge bird.

Nah—I'm imagining things. Marshall slapped himself a few times just in case he was dreaming. He wasn't.

Then, that Odin man was knocked out. The supposed good guys started falling. Finally, Firehair also lost steam.

Let's just ask her the big question. Hah, I gotta be one delusional fucker to think 'that' can be true.

He flew in at the right time and saved Firehair from falling to her death. At the same time, he covered his entire body in fire, and that covered her as well, as if sharing it with her.

"You came for me?!"

What? When did I say that?

"You're the only one I know of all these blokes." He replied, unable to keep his eyes from taking a look at her cleavage. His hands under her knees were actually touching her skin, the same for those behind her back. He couldn't stop his little Marshall from saluting.

"Focus!" Firehair raised her voice as if understanding his state. "You said kiss? Let's do more than that! Heck, I haven't done that in ages either—But we gotta survive first. If that thing isn't defeated, forget ever getting to touch me, or anyone."

Wooosh!

That made the flames covering Marshall grow larger, brighter, and hotter. He now believed her. She wasn't a succubus, she was too good to be that. Too sane, actually, but also, she killed him so he was still bitter about that.

"What even is that?" He asked her the million-dollar question.

"That is Zgreb the Sorrower, a Dark Celestial, corrupted by the Horde!"

Marshall became speechless for a moment. Her words confirmed his doubts, if any were left. He swept his gaze down at the other folks and looked back at Firehair seriously.

"Firehair, what is your other name?"

"You mean Phoenix? Some do call me that."

Is this for real? A hundred million years?

"And what is the name of the team you've built?"

She proudly declared. "I named it the Avengers—Look down, they are Odin, Agamotto, Black Panther, Iron Fist, Starbrand, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight."

I'm in the Marvel fucking universe! All this time… How is this even real?

Like a big bang inside his head, a lot of memories resurfaced. They were blurry, but they were real. Being a guy who wanted to join the military for a desk job to make life easy, he was of course a consumer of comics and other media.

Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Odin—Those string of names couldn't be used anywhere else but the Marvel universe.

Wait, wait, wait! Then that woman I fucked, that Gaea… She really was the Mother-Goddess Gaea? Fuck!

Snap! Snap!

Firehair, still in his arms, snapped her fingers in front of his unfocused eyes. "Marshall? What happened?"

"Nothing… Nothing, I remembered something." Marshall shook his head awake and looked at Firehair in his arms. And seriously, his erection was on the verge of bursting from his pants. "Can you fly?"

The fiery redhead nodded firmly, her face showing true expressions of ease and excitement. She shifted off his arms and flew with the fire surrounding her. Then, she extended her hand towards him.

Marshall looked at her hand and still struggled to digest the facts. He was with the Stone-Age Avengers.

"Ugh—You cave-dwelling madman! Hold my hand! We need to join our cosmic fire to damage the Celestial."

Really? Hand holding? Well, ain't complaining.

He chuckled at her sudden shift in attitude. "You really are a crazy bitch, aren't you?"

Firehair glared at him before grinning, and on her own grabbed his hand tightly, clenching it with all her strength.

Marshall didn't know what was happening. If there was the Phoenix Force inside her, the same one from his faint memories, then defeating the Dark Celestian shouldn't be an issue. Especially now, combining his cosmic flames with hers.

While he let Firehair lead him, he started thinking about his long life and the way he lived. Immortal, unkillable, a body that absorbs the powers of whatever kills him. Now, he couldn't stop thinking about getting killed by beings like Odin, or even a Celestial

"Don't let that thing kill you!" Firehair warned him. "Phoenix is warning you! Zgreb is infected with the Horde. If you absorb its abilities, you might become a part of the Horde."

Fuck! I didn't think that far!

He stopped distracting himself with what-ifs and focused on the moment. He flew side-by-side with Firehair, his body and hers were both shrouded in one massive cage of fire. It was still shaped like a bird but much bigger. She was the left wing and Marshall was the right wing.

"Pour all your fire into this one, Marshall." Firehair guided him, her fingers now intertwined with his, clasped together in a joined fist.

Before, he had accepted his fate. That he was going to live forever. Live through human history and modern times. Like a god on Earth. Now, he wasn't sure. The power scaling had instantly changed in his head. He was no god, he was just an insect living in a cage.

Can't help but feel excited. Though this feels a little too cheesy.

"Let's do it, redhead." Marshall used the cosmic flames as easily as breathing. He inherited them like he always had them.

BOOM!

The size of the flames around their bodies exploded. The Phoenix turned massive, half the size of the Celestial.

"With me, Marshall!" Firehair glared at the Celestial's head. "Let me aim."

Marshall loosened his arm so she could move it as she wished. He just poured out all the energy in his body into the fire.

"Almost there…"

Both of them flew higher above the clouds where the Celestial's head was. At the same time, he heard Firehair talk telepathically with him and all her allies, telling them what to do.

"Now! Give me your hand!"

"Take the whole damn arm, woman!" Marshall roared back and let her aim their joined, clasped fist towards the Celestial's head.

WOOOSH!

A concentrated, fiery, dark beam of energy shot through their clasped fists. It then struck the Celestial's helmet-like head in the middle with a blast.

"It's working!" Firehair cheered. "Keep the focus!"

She was already at her limits due to exhaustion, so she depended on Marshall a lot in those final moments. Her face turned sweaty, and her hand, holding his, turned slippery. But then she felt his grip tighten on her hand.

"What are y—"

Before Firehair could finish speaking, Marshall also raised his other hand alone and shot a blast of cosmic flames through that as well. Now it felt draining, but he just trusted his instincts that he'd honed over a hundred million years.

CRACK!

As soon as the new beam of fire struck, a loud crack echoed.

"It worked!" Firehair noticed the crack in Celestial's helmet and quickly ordered Agamotto, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight to make a move and put the Celestial to sleep. They couldn't kill it, so subduing it was the best option. It wasn't at its full power, so they were lucky they were even able to stand before it.

Agamotto used his spells quickly, and the magic started to work. The Celestial stopped moving after a while. After that, a few more spells were placed for good measure. Moon Knight also added some.

Back in the air, panting, Firehair looked at Marshall. "Why did you do that? Losing all the cosmic flames can be fatal to the body."

Marshall shrugged. "Thought it'd look cool."

"..."

Speechless, Firehair took a deep breath to control that burning flame of rage inside her. She loved fighting and destruction, but she had failed once with Marshall. She didn't want to do that twice.

"You can release my hand now, Marshall."

"Nope." Marshall grinned and raised their clasped fists high between their bodies. "Since we survived—"

There was no blush on Firehair's face. There was no shame either. She hadn't done it in many, many years as well. She looked left and right, her eyes showing the slowly rising mischief. She was not a woman from modern times but a woman from that era. She did what she liked without a second thought.

Firehair looked at the subdued Celestial. Then at the other members of the team.

"Since we have won…" Firehair closed the gap between their bodies, both hovering midair. She raised her long, gorgeous legs, and latched them around his waist, and wrapped her one free arm around his neck. "Take me—"

"I know a place."

Right as Marshall freed her other hand, he felt both her arms squeeze around his neck and her soft, delicious, malleable lips smothered his lips. Both his hands instinctively went to grip her bottom, and with that, he launched himself flying in a certain direction.
