Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Fall of the King
The moment Mac Gargan woke up, the world around him had changed.
His muscles felt like they were on fire, veins pumping with raw, uncontrolled energy. The mutation had taken hold completely. His body, once human, was now something... different. Stronger. Faster. Angrier.
But his mind?
It was twisted.
Gargan grinned, his teeth sharp like a predator's.
This... This is power.
And when the security team rushed in, guns raised, shouting orders-he didn't hesitate.
With a single swipe, he sent the first guard flying across the lab, crashing through a glass panel. He leaped forward, knocking the next two unconscious in a single blow. The rest barely had time to react before he was upon them, slamming them into the walls like ragdolls.
No more orders. No more experiments. No more cages.
Then he saw the tech area.
His instincts screamed at him to move.
Something inside that room could help him-he didn't know what, but his body did.
So he ran.
The moment Gargan disappeared into the tech labs, the entire room turned to chaos.
Scientists scrambled, alarms blared, and security tried to regroup.
And Peter?
He used the opportunity to lead the rest of the scientists outside to safety and then slip away.
He needed a quick exit, somewhere out of sight, but with a way back into the action. His eyes darted around, scanning for blind spots. Then he spotted a maintenance access panel near the floor, half-hidden behind a supply rack.
Without hesitation, he slipped behind the rack, crouched low, and pried open the panel. It led to a narrow service corridor used for electrical wiring and ventilation maintenance. No cameras, no guards. Perfect. He squeezed inside, pulling the panel back into place just as security rushed past.
From here, he could move unseen, slipping deeper into the building.
Inside the narrow service corridor, Peter wasted no time. He pulled his backpack forward, unzipped it, and grabbed his suit. The tight space made it awkward, but he had done this enough times to make it work.
Gotta be quick. Scorpion is out there and those idiots are making things worse. Don't want things to get too out of control.
Within seconds, the familiar fabric hugged his body. He adjusted the mask, securing it in place. His fingers flexed against the gloves. And secured a small body cam to his suit. Ready.
Can't wait to upgrade this shit for an actual suit. With all the material finally here, unstable molecular fibres would be quite an upgrade.
Now, for the entrance. He traced the corridor's layout in his mind. There was an emergency access hatch ahead, leading right to the building's outer structure. A perfect way in… or out.
He reached the hatch and gave a small tap with his foot. The panel popped open, revealing the open air above the research wing. He climbed out, crouching low. Below, Scorpion was tearing through Oscorp security like tissue paper.
Alright, ugly. Time to put you back in your cage.
With a powerful leap, Spider-Man soared from the rooftop, aiming straight for Scorpion.
The streets outside Oscorp were in full panic mode.
Gargan had already torn through three squad cars, flipped a taxi, and was now standing in the middle of the street, roaring like a beast.
Spider-Man dropped from the sky, landing gracefully on a streetlight.
By the time Spider-Man reached him, Scorpion's skin had already turned into light green color.
"You look like a lizard that lost a bet with a glow stick."
Gargan turned, his yellow, almost reptilian eyes locking onto him.
"Spider-Man." His voice was lower now, guttural, filled with rage.
"Wow, you said that with a lot of passion. What's next? Are you gonna yell about avenging your clan and unleash a chakra skeleton?"
Gargan didn't answer. He just charged.
Spidey dodged.
Scorpion roared, his newly mutated body twitching with unstable power. He flipped a car like a toy. "I'm gonna crush you, bug!"
Spider-Man landed gracefully on a lamppost, tilting his head. "Wow, original insult. Did you come up with that all by yourself, or was there a committee?"
With a furious growl, Scorpion lunged, punching fast, like a powerful whip. Spider-Man casually flipped over it, landing behind him. "Buddy, you're slower than dial-up internet. This is embarrassing."
Scorpion snarled and swung his fists again. Spider-Man ducked, webbed Gargan's left foot and yanked, sending Scorpion face-first into a brick wall. "Oof. That looked painful. You good?"
Scorpion shook off the impact, charging again. Spider-Man sighed. "Alright, playtime's over."
In a blur, he sidestepped, grabbed Scorpion's tail, and spun him like an Olympic hammer throw. With a final twirl, he launched him straight into a dumpster.
Crash!
Spider-Man perched on the lid, peering down. "And here we see the Scorpion in his natural habitat: New York's finest garbage."
Scorpion groaned, half-buried in trash.
Just as he was about to web Gargan up... A chopper roared overhead.
From the rooftops, Oscorp's advanced security team suddenly descended. Spider-Man's eyes narrowed. "And now the real bugs show up."
Armed. Armored. And aiming their weapons at him.
"Uh, guys? I think you're pointing those at the wrong person."
No response.
Then, one of them fired a tranquilizer dart.
His spider-sense screamed, and Peter flipped backward, dodging it by inches.
Oh, so that's how it is?
Another dart. Then another. They weren't holding back.
Spidey moved like a blur, weaving between shots, leaping off streetlights, and using walls to ricochet away from their sights. He was untouchable.
But now? He was pissed.
Oscorp just tried to put him down.
Fine.
He shot a web, yanked a guy's rifle away, and tossed it into the sewer. "You're done playing with that."
Another soldier lunged. Spidey webbed his legs together and let him fall flat on his face.
One by one, he disarmed them, making sure to do just enough damage to humiliate them.
Once they were all groaning on the ground, he looked up at the chopper.
"Tell Norman Osborn... we're gonna have a talk."
Then he vanished, swinging away
Later in Norman's office, Norman sat behind his desk, fingers steepled, eyes locked on Peter. "I just got back, and the first thing I hear is that my lab is in ruins, my security is humiliated, and Gargan is a walking disaster. Tell me exactly what I missed."
Peter leaned forward. "The genetic splicing process was flawed. I caught a calculation error, one that made the mutation unstable. I tried to warn the lead scientists, but they ignored me. When I couldn't reach you, I sent emails, but I guess they got buried."
Norman's eyes narrowed. "And then?"
Peter sighed. "The experiment went sideways. Gargan lost control, tore through the lab. I helped get some scientists out discreetly. Security moved in, but Gargan escaped. Then your advanced security team decided that Spider-Man is a target too."
Norman exhaled sharply. His words spoken frustration, but his eyes had a sinister gleam in them. "Idiots. They went after him instead of containing the real threat?"
Peter shrugged. "I don't know who gave the order, but they weren't just cleaning up. They were covering up."
Norman's fingers tapped against his desk. "So, you tried to stop this before it even started… and they ignored you."
Peter nodded. "Yeah. Now Oscorp's taking the fall."
Norman's fingers tightened into fists.
His face darkened.
He already knew the damage was done. The media was eating them alive. The board was furious. And worst of all? His position was at risk.
The whole board met, in the afternoon.
The boardroom was silent as Norman took his seat.
The members stared at him like a caged animal.
Tobias stood first. "Norman, I'm afraid we've reached a point where we can no longer keep you in power."
Norman smirked. "Oh? And why's that?"
Jameson folded his arms. "Your reckless decisions, your unstable leadership, and now? This scandal. Oscorp's stock has plummeted overnight. We're losing investors by the second."
Norman leaned forward. "I built this company. I made it what it is. And you all want to stab me in the back?"
Tobias sighed. "We're protecting the company. The vote has already been made."
A long pause.
Then Norman's smirk faded.
"You'll regret this," he muttered.
No one spoke.
He stood up, fists clenched. Then he turned and stormed out.
The board members exchanged glances.
Jameson sighed. "That... was long overdue."
Tobias nodded. "Now, let's fix this mess."
Peter leaned against a rooftop, watching Oscorp's main building from a distance.
Norman Osborn was out.
That meant things were going to change. The origin of Green Goblin was around the corner.
This calls for a more thorough investigation.
If the changes are for better? For worse?
Only time would tell.
