MARVEL'S MONSTER HUNTER WORLD

Chapter 6: THE CLOTH OF CALAMITY

Watson, full from Aunt Liya's cooking and warmed by Uncle Polk's laughter, stepped out into the night. He paused just beyond the door, turning back to glance at the dim light glowing from the window. Inside, Aunt Liya and Uncle Polk were embraced in quiet contentment. Watson sighed. For so long, he thought himself a true orphan, alone in the world, but tonight reminded him otherwise.

"They're my family," Watson muttered to himself. "If I can't be a tyrant without weaknesses, then I'll be the protector they deserve." Determined, he strode toward his home, lost in thought, only to stop short at the sight of two massive holes blown through his walls.

His eye twitched. "Grenades? Really? What the—" Watson let out a groan. "And where's the police? Is this SHIELD's doing?" He shook his head, brushing off the thought. "Whatever. I'll deal with it later."

Inside, he flopped onto his bed, the familiar comfort coaxing a groan of relief from his lips. "System," he called, "show me my personal template."

Watson's eyes locked onto the Small Physical Potions. His lips twitched. "Stay energetic for four hours?" he muttered. "System, tell me the truth—this isn't some weird, enhanced Indian God Oil, is it?"

The system chimed in its usual deadpan tone. "The Small Physical Potion temporarily eliminates fatigue and boosts endurance. It is akin to a supercharged morphine injection, but without side effects."

Watson rolled his eyes. "So, basically, it's what I thought. Great." He smirked. "Guess I could use it for... 'negotiations.'"

Suddenly, his mind jumped to the other unlocked perk. "Right! The lottery! System, what's the deal with the draw?"

"Would you like to open the Lottery Roulette?"

"Open it!" Watson ordered.

The system responded: "Please select a category: Pharmaceuticals (20 points), General Materials (20 points), or General Equipment (50 points)."

Watson rubbed his chin. "Materials? What even counts as 'General Materials'?"

"Would you like to draw from General Materials?"

Watson frowned. "Why does it sound like you're trying to push me into this? Fine, whatever. Let's spin."

A large roulette wheel materialized before him, spinning with options like "Gunpowder Herb," "Detoxifying Herb," and "Shotgun Fruit." Watson groaned. "Trash. All of it."

"Wait, can I switch to another category?"

"The draw has already begun."

"Fak," Watson grumbled. "You rigged this, didn't you?"

The wheel slowed, finally stopping on an unfamiliar item.

"Congratulations! You have obtained: Cloth of Calamity × 1."

Watson blinked. "Wait... the Cloth of Calamity? Isn't that one of the materials for crafting the Bleach Suit?" He paused, processing what just happened. "This... this is actually good! Luck of the traverser strikes again!"

But his excitement was short-lived. "Right. I still need corpse dragon materials to craft the suit. And judging by my current situation, I'm way out of my depth." Watson sighed, slumping back against the bed.

"System," he asked after a moment, "can the Cloth of Calamity be used for anything else?"

"As a cursed fabric imbued with death energy, the Cloth of Calamity is highly effective at attracting the presence of death. However, the host is advised against reckless use."

Watson raised an eyebrow. "Attract death, huh? Wait a second…" His mind raced. This was the solution he needed.

A wicked grin spread across his face. "If this thing can lure death, then I can use it to draw Hydra out of hiding. And if SHIELD gets involved, even better—it'll force them to act, too!"

The system chimed again, seemingly unimpressed. "The host is reminded that reckless use may result in personal harm."

"Yeah, yeah," Watson muttered. "Let's just hope SHIELD appreciates the effort. If they don't, well... I've got two jackals and plenty of time to improvise."

With renewed determination, Watson tucked the Cloth of Calamity into his inventory. His mind raced with plans to use the cursed fabric as both bait and leverage.

"This is going to be fun," he whispered, a devilish glint in his eyes.
