Marvel's New Magneto

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Stryker's Attack

After arriving in the new world, this was the first time Erik had ventured out for a leisurely stroll. There were no endless missions sent by the Lord God, no life-threatening wandering through different worlds. He was able to relax, leave all his worries behind, and enjoy the freedom. He found himself a little more carefree than usual, lingering outside until the evening of the next day.

As night fell, the academy was located in a remote area, and there were few people on the road. Walking under the pale moonlight and the dim glow of streetlamps, Erik walked alone. This kind of experience felt unfamiliar to him—rather than charging through the night, he was now approaching friends and familiar faces. The warmth spread through his heart as he savored this rare feeling. Thinking that someone might be waiting for him in the distance brought about a sense of returning home.

The concept of "home" was already quite blurry for him, as he had been away for too long. The Lord God kept his body in peak condition, but his mental age could not remain frozen. The trials and storms Erik had endured were beyond anyone's imagination, and as a seasoned veteran of the trials, there was no way he could still look as young as his appearance suggested. His mature heart longed for home in ways that young people couldn't understand.

Though he had only known the people at the academy for a short time, he found himself missing even those he wasn't very close with: the cute Mary, the graceful and intelligent Jean, the gentle and full-figured Aurora, as well as Logan, Professor... Even Cyclops, the guy who was usually annoying, now felt a bit endearing.

Perhaps the cool night wind urged him on, and Erik quickened his pace.

As he neared the academy's main gate, a sudden gunshot shattered the night's calm.

The gunfire came from within the academy.

Erik didn't rush over to see what was happening. He continued walking at a normal pace, calmly observing his surroundings. His senses began to sharpen.

There were Professor X and his students at the academy. Under normal circumstances, no matter how strong the enemy, they would be able to protect themselves.

Cyclops had eyes like laser cannons that could fire high-energy beams. Aurora could control the weather, commanding storms and lightning. Logan had a body of steel, and Jean, though quiet, was the most powerful Omega-level mutant. With all of them around, Erik couldn't think of any adversary who could pose a significant threat. And there was also Professor X, who had the most powerful telepathic abilities, a human radar who could detect any hostile intentions. No ambush could succeed against him, especially since he could control others' minds.

If even these people couldn't stop the enemy from infiltrating the academy, it would only mean one thing—they might not be here at all. Perhaps they had been lured away, or maybe someone had been captured as a hostage.

That meant the enemy likely wasn't strong enough to break through directly.

The imminent danger didn't make Erik panic; instead, it fueled him.

If someone had the same ability as him—someone who could see the human magnetic field—they would be surprised to see that Erik's magnetic field was steadily flowing, his power steadily concentrating, his state rising toward its peak.

From the gunshots, it was clear the invaders weren't a small group. They were well-organized, and while focusing their firepower on the main building, they hadn't forgotten to send out scouts on the main roads.

The night concealed their evil, but it couldn't hide from Erik's eyes.

As he advanced deeper into the academy, human magnetic fields, flashing with various colored halos, began to reveal themselves. No matter where these people hid, they could no longer remain concealed. They were well-trained soldiers, strong and full of vitality. Because of this, their magnetic fields glowed like torches in the darkness.

If they made a move, Erik wouldn't hesitate to turn this place into a river of blood. He had always been ruthless toward his enemies.

The infiltrators saw someone approaching and reported it through their throat mics. They received some orders, and as a result, they held back, staying hidden. Erik acted as if he hadn't noticed, continuing his approach to the main building, where people he cared about were.

The invaders had likely cut the power, and the entire academy was plunged into darkness. It felt unnaturally ominous. Under the moonless sky, Erik darted through the woods, a long-lost thrill flooding back into him.

Chasing, killing, stepping through the blood of enemies—it brought an endless sense of fear to his foes. The threat of the enemy caused him to revert to his former self, the seasoned Reincarnator. But this time, it wasn't for a mission—it was to save.

The path through the woods wasn't long, but it felt like he had walked through several worlds. The similar scenes triggered buried memories. The faces of fallen teammates began to merge with the faces of his present friends. Hands reaching out for help seemed to stretch from the past once more. This time, he would not let go.

"I will save you. I will not let you leave me."

Erik's heart was as hard as steel.

As he was about to leave the woods, a figure suddenly appeared on the side of the road, blocking his way.

"Don't go any further. The invaders are Stryker's subordinates. They're very dangerous," the figure warned. It was a mutant, her magnetic field was strange, with many changing colors in the inner circle and an eerie blue glow emanating from the outer circle.

"My people are more dangerous right now," Erik responded, though the stranger didn't seem hostile. He remained on guard, brushing past her.

"I know you can control steel, but you only have second-tier abilities. Stryker'$ team has polymer armor and weapons designed specifically to target mutants. If you go, you'll only walk right into their trap." As they passed each other, the figure tried to grab Erik's hand, but he swiftly grabbed her wrist and pushed it against a tree. Ignoring the pain, she whispered urgently, "You can't do this."

"I won't," Erik replied, sensing the hard scales in her palm. He guessed her identity, releasing her wrist and turning to leave.

"They'll capture you and rip you open! Erik would never do something so foolish!" she shouted, her voice fierce as she followed him, like a wounded beast.

"Now you know. The foolish Erik would never abandon his teammates," Erik said, resolutely heading toward the main building.

Meanwhile, in the basement of the main building, Professor X had been captured. A strange metallic clamp was securing his head, emitting chaotic waves, preventing him from concentrating.

If Erik had seen the Professor in this state, he would have been shocked. He had always believed that with the Professor around, everything would be fine. Yet, it was precisely in the one area where the academy was the strongest that things had gone wrong.

"This is a neural inhibitor. It prevents you from using your abilities," the leader of the invaders, Stryker, emerged from the shadows and said. He was an elderly man, with thinning hair and a somewhat disheveled appearance, but his sharp eyes betrayed the hatred in his heart.

"What did you do to Scott and the others?" Professor X asked. Despite the perilous situation, he was more concerned about his students, fearing they had fallen into Strick's hands.

"Don't worry. That's not my concern. They went off to trouble Erik Lehnsherr. I'm just taking advantage of this rare opportunity to strike early," Stryker said, slowly circling Professor X's wheelchair.

Down in the basement, the sounds of the battle above were muffled. But the Professor's sharp mind soon realized Stryker's purpose wasn't so simple. He had brought him to the basement instead of capturing him for research. There was a deeper plot at play. Soon, Strick's people would likely bring in his young students to use as leverage.

As Professor X stared at the nearby search room, he suddenly understood.

"I could have waited a little longer to ensure my experiment's success, but I couldn't be sure I could escape your telepathy. Fortunately, God heard my prayer and granted me this chance. Your old nemesis, Magneto, dealt you a blow, and your prized students are out there reconnecting with your old friends. This is the perfect opportunity."

"Don't you care about the safety of New York's citizens?" the Professor asked.

"If your students succeed, the citizens will be safe. Otherwise, the whole world will see the evil of mutants. That's when I'll have my chance to make a move," Strick answered casually, then bent down to whisper maliciously in the Professor's ear. "If you really care about the safety of the citizens, then listen to me. Open the mindwave amplifier, find all the mutants, and kill them."

"That's a dream," the Professor replied without hesitation.

"Then it's not up to you," Stryker straightened up, sneering. "Let me introduce you to Mutant 143."

Two soldiers wheeled in a chair, and on it sat a man with a blank expression.

"Jensen?" the Professor gasped, immediately recognizing him.

Above in the main building, the invaders' attack was nearing its end. Mutant children were being roughly dragged out by soldiers. They were full of potential, but too young and unprepared for such an ambush. Despite their best efforts, they had lasted as long as they could, trembling in fear, most of them still in their pajamas.

"Tell the commander. The academy has been basically cleared out," a soldier instructed, but before his subordinate could reply, he looked outside.

Somehow, a young man had entered the main building's lobby, and the guards outside hadn't even had time to raise an alarm. The soldier immediately understood the situation was dire.

"Who are you?" he asked, knowing the answer but using it as a diversion. He signaled for the men to open fire, and the guns roared to life, spraying bullets in all directions.

Among known mutants, aside from telepaths like Professor X, the hardest to deal with was Magneto. Despite not having a physically strong body, his ability to control metal made him a nightmare to enemies. Weapons, ships, and even entire buildings became his playthings. However, thanks to advancements in technology, Strick had equipped his soldiers with expensive polymer weapons to counter Magneto. If Magneto was here, he would be dead by now.

But Erik was here.

Would he survive?

The weapons fired relentlessly, and the mutant children screamed and covered their eyes.
