Chapter 64: Chapter 64: The Value of the Undetectable Extension Charm
Chapter 64: The Value of the Undetectable Extension Charm
Facing the oncoming flames, George had anticipated the attack. With a swift flap of his wings, he ascended rapidly, escaping the range of the Flame Cyclone.
However, this also meant he could no longer precisely control the blades for his attack.
Fortunately, he had prepared a backup plan.
"Bite them!"
The hundred venomous snakes that had been hiding in the grass, slowly inching closer to the two dark mages, suddenly sprang into action upon George's command, lunging at the two mages.
"Ah!"
The melee dark mage reacted swiftly, his dual swords slicing through the snakes that lunged at him, cutting them in half. The fire mage, however, wasn't as quick.
Although he managed to redirect the Flame Cyclone to engulf the snakes, he was still bitten by one, causing his body to go numb.
Seizing the opportunity, George dove down, closing the distance once more. He controlled the blades to entangle the melee dark mage while extending his sharp claws, slashing the fire mage's throat in one swift motion.
It's worth noting that George's current cat form wasn't just powered by the cat's natural strength but also by the combined strength of his bodies from the other two worlds.
Though it might not match the melee dark mage's power, it far exceeded that of an ordinary human.
With such strength concentrated in his sharp claws and the momentum of his dive, tearing through the fragile throat wasn't too difficult.
"You bastard, you're asking for death!"
The melee dark mage, enraged, increased the speed of his sword swings, shattering the blades George controlled, turning them back into leaves. He then charged at George.
Instead of immediately flying higher to escape, George continued flying forward, luring the melee dark mage into thinking he had a chance to kill him, keeping him in close pursuit.
As he flew, George's claws kept moving, and he muttered incantations, clearly preparing another spell.
"It's a trap!"
The pursuing melee dark mage suddenly felt a numbness in his calf, as if he had bumped into something. He quickly rolled forward to evade it.
Even so, a deep gash appeared on his calf.
George had preemptively set up a wire here and had deliberately flown in this direction.
"Stupefy!"
Just as the melee dark mage was about to get up and continue the chase, George flew right up to his face, extending a claw toward him.
A blue magical beam struck the melee dark mage's forehead, causing him to collapse unconscious.
"I didn't expect a few small fry from an unknown dark mage guild to be so hard to kill. It seems the mages in this world are quite powerful!"
George sighed inwardly, then used the melee dark mage's magical sword to behead him.
Afterward, he packed up all the valuable items from the three dark mages and continued on his way to the Fairy Tail guild.
His decision to head to Fairy Tail wasn't to uncover his racial origins like Jinjin but to see if he could join the kingdom's top guild and learn some magic to enhance his strength.
During the recent battle, he realized something he had overlooked before.
The mages in this world cast spells incredibly quickly and didn't rely on wands or other tools, making their magic highly suitable for combat.
If he could master more of this world's magic, his original body in the Marvel world could use these spells to aid in combat, even if he couldn't find suitable materials to make a wand for the time being.
The next day, a bustling otherworldly city came into George's view.
"This must be Magnolia City!"
Jinjin hadn't been too far from Magnolia City, and with George's ability to use flight magic continuously, it took less than a day to reach the city where the Fairy Tail guild was located.
"First, I'll find a magic shop to sell these things for some money and get some food."
With his small bag on his back, George spread his wings and flew into the city.
Though his bag looked small, it contained all the belongings of the three dark mages, thanks to the Undetectable Extension Charm he had cast on it.
The Undetectable Extension Charm was an advanced spell that could expand the space within an object, and it was notoriously difficult to learn.
Even though he had started studying it soon after arriving at Hogwarts and had consulted several professors, he could only manage to expand the space to nearly two cubic meters.
It was nowhere near the level of Newt Scamander's suitcase, which could extend into a small world, but it was enough to hold all the belongings of the three dark mages.
After circling the city briefly, he quickly found a shop with a magic store sign.
"Welcome!"
As George pushed the door open with his paw and walked in with his bag, he was greeted warmly by an old man.
However, after the automatic greeting, the old man paused, clearly confused. He had heard the door open and the magical chime, but he didn't see any customers enter.
"I'm here!"
George sighed, spreading his wings and flying onto the counter.
In this world, his clone was a magical cat, and a very small one at that—barely larger than a palm.
Fortunately, he walked upright out of habit rather than on all fours.
"A talking cat! What can I do for you?"
The old man, being the owner of a magic shop, was well-versed in the unusual. Having seen Fairy Tail's cat, he quickly regained his composure after a brief moment of surprise.
"I want to sell some things. How much are they worth?"
George shook his bag, and all the belongings of the three dark mages spilled onto the counter.
The old man picked up something resembling a magnifying glass, with a small magical circle forming on it, and began appraising the items on the counter.
"Two lower-tier magical swords with speed-enhancing inscriptions, worth 1,500J.
A ring that enhances fire magic, worth 1,000J.
A headband that can cast Wind Bind magic, worth 1,200J."
After appraising all the items, the old man smiled kindly and said, "If you're selling everything together, I can offer you 10,000J."
"10,000J? The Wind Bind headband in your shop is priced at 6,000J. Isn't that a bit low?"
George used his tail to point at a headband on a nearby counter, identical to the one on the table, his tone slightly displeased.
Even if they were second-hand, magical items weren't like ordinary goods. This price was somewhat exploitative.
The old man maintained his smile and replied, "The market isn't great right now. How about 12,000J? If that's not acceptable, then forget it."
Then he pointed at George's bag and added, "If you're willing to sell this, I can offer 150,000J."
The earlier items were low-tier magical goods, not worth much. But this bag was clearly a rare spatial magical item. Even at 150,000J, he could resell it for over 300,000J.
With some luck, it might even fetch over 400,000J.
After all, spatial magical items were always highly valuable in the market. Aside from mages with spatial abilities, even the most powerful mages had to carry their belongings the old-fashioned way.
And among ordinary people, many nobles and wealthy merchants were always on the lookout for spatial magical items, willing to pay a high price.
