Chapter 2266: 2266. Proving Winds
"The wind is more than what you are thinking. Even you, are made of wind, and you are missing the point of its flow." The true wind sage had been moving about and giving them no direction since they had stepped through the bridge to the elemental planes. Gil was at his wits end and Zephyr thought she had made a grave mistake.
"Both of you are thinking wrongly." Ventus had not been able to access wind whatsoever. She was forced to be sealed but even she was beginning to see something here and there.
"Oho? Trying to share some knowledge even though you can't act on it? That is impressive." The true wind sage had still yet to bring his actual body to them, but the partial body had gotten denser and flitted about forming wherever they went.
Since they had gotten through the bridge, the true wind sage had pointed them in a direction and begun having them move. Otherwise, they had been trying to grasp new understandings per the teasing and small hints from the true wind sage the entire time while walking through the odd environment which was condensed air.
"The wind from the world is mixed with multiple elemental manas at all times. But this isn't it. So, what would wind do when it is completely pure? And I don't mean pure in the essence of an elemental spirit or a member of the spirit race. I mean completely without influence of a single other mana at all."
Ventus had a very clear understanding here. The elemental planes were separated to be balanced. Yes they overlapped, but that was not where they were nor was it what they were doing right now. They were in a somewhat isolated place compared to the world where only wind would interact with wind.
"You want us to try to learn how wind would work by itself? Like that saying about trapping lightning in a bottle, right?" To Gil, this was the closest explanation of what they were trying to do. Isolate wind and understand it at the most basic of basics without a single bit of influence, even from them.
"Good good." The true wind sage sent a wave of wind which pushed them forward. It was like a wall being put behind them and moved them a very great distance.
This brought out a sight which didn't seem to make much sense.
Very tall swaying trees anchored within literal clouds of pure wind mana making up what could only be called a ground. But below it could easily be more layers or spaces since the wind elemental plane was not a single flat place. But that was a little advanced for the group right now.
These trees were dark and lighter greens making them more reminiscent of beach trees. There were figures moving around them, cutting them down using solid looking tools made from wind and even from parts of their own bodies.
"Those are wind horn ogres. They are a small race which always seems to appear where these trees grow. They eat the fruits from the wind swaying trees. The fruits contain dense wind mana which can feed one of these people for a year if they were within the world. It also lets their horns grow so that they can use more wind mana as they desire."
"They are attacked by various monsters to eat their horns for their unique form of manipulating wind mana. But they are also very strong and can fight some weaker monsters. They are a race you can guide to your city. But they are stubborn and they will prefer to fight you to see if you are worth following."
The true wind sage pointed out some of the wind horn ogres which had more than one horn on their head. Specifically, a larger and much more muscular orge with three equally sized horns. The wind wrapped around it as it watched the others move about. The wind literally became its armor to defend it whenever it moved.
"Convince them?" Zephyr mumbled to Gil and Gil nodded as well. They both knew that this was not an easy task.
"No bows or magic attacks. They fight with wind in their hands. Good luck." a large barrier of wind began to rotate around the entire area. The wind horn ogres did not flinch since these things were common to randomly happen this deep within the wind elemental planes.
"He took Ventus with him. I assume they are going to meet with dragons." Gil knew that they had a tough task, but Zephyr would have a tougher task. She was going to face a wind dominator dragon born and raised within the wind elemental plane. A powerful dragon that trumped anything she could do, with or without her power sealed.
"I will be using my daggers with wind mana around me, can you help?" Gil saw that Zephyr understood his goal. If they had to prove strength, it was the very same as walking in to the coliseum of the demi-humans. They respected strength, so he would act the very same as he would with them.
"Now, you, wished to meet the dragons here, isn't that the case?" The true wind sage had left Gil and Zephyr behind, but he had not forgotten Ventus.
"They are very different from you who was raised mixed manas. While the wind devouring dragons can only leave the wind elemental planes for a short while, they are powerful and able to wield greater amounts of wind mana to maintain the balance of the plane as a whole. They often patrol the small wind elemental planes brought by the origin beings."
Thus was not news to Ventus. She had learned it from Walker when he had returned from the elemental planes. "The dominator dragons dominate an area. The wind dominator dragons here are few and far spread. That is to ensure that they can grow and slumber to maintain the balance of wind.
They focus on the flow of pure wind and act as anchors to make sure that it does not shift wrongly due to other beings within the plane they live in."
"Does that mean they live in the densest wind mana without ever moving?" to Ventus, it sounded like a dominator dragon was at a loss. Unable to move or travel.
"They do not move. Their minds are free though. Their bodies are tougher to be able to handle the pressure of all that mana. Their understanding grows. And they can reach out further with their minds to control the wind. Have you not done something similar before?
I sensed it, you controlled a lot of wind to cause an event which you should not have been able to do."
Realizing that the true wind sage was referencing the time that she had made a tornado influenced by fire as well within the desert made her grasp that the true wind sage could learn from the mana itself. He could look through her a bit.
"Their existence is not as pathetic as you may believe. They are very much similar to lords that protect their people as you are a royal within the world who protects yours." This comparison made the true wind sage flit about and admire the clarity coming to Ventus's eyes.
"Here we are." The wind shifted and Ventus found herself in an area that suffocated her. The pure wind mana density threatened to crush her. It was so far beyond anything she had ever tried to grasp or touch upon.
"So small and yet you are similar to me." The rumbling voice was akin to storm winds deafening those that attempted to travel through them.
"Be at ease, the true wind sage wishes to show you what a dominator dragon should be. You are but a hatchling in comparison. You are a threat sealed by unknown means. I have lived many times more than you and never seen anything like you. It would be impossible if I had not heard the whispers from the wind crystal sword tribe. The world has returned."
Ventius felt she could breathe again. No, she felt she was protected by something unseen. And as her eyes opened again, she noticed a hulking, slumbering, figure. Easily ten times her size, the iridescent green scales which changed with the flowing wind. Closed eyes which didn't look at her, but still saw her. The folded wings could easily eclipse all of Genesis.
"Little child, you have permission to ask what you desire. In trade, you will tell me of the world I have not seen since I was a little one looking for my own path." Ventus's heart leaped in her chest as she realized this was a dragon more ancient than any of the world's dragon race knew.
