Chapter 031: Under Heaven, All Lands Belong to the Sovereign…
“Why haven’t they come out yet?” Outside the restaurant, Qin Yu was pacing like an ant on a hot pan.
His fiancée, Shuishui, had been inside with Su Mingxuan for over two hours. That was more than enough time for… a lot to happen. If Su Mingxuan suddenly revealed his true colors and acted out of line, wouldn’t Shuishui be in danger?
No, that wouldn’t do. He had to go in and save her.
Qin Yu made for the entrance but hadn’t even gotten close before several men in black suits blocked his path. The threatening glint in their eyes made him pause. Damn it. So what if they had guns? He had one too. Admittedly, his was only good for a very specific kind of “target.”
As he stood there seething, his phone buzzed. A familiar name flashed on the screen—his old man. His eyes lit up.
“Hello, old man?” Qin Yu ducked into a quiet corner and answered the call.
“Yu’er, is it done?” The voice on the other end was aged but steady.
“No…” Qin Yu sighed bitterly. Shui Shui was still on her little date. This situation was spiraling.
“What a disgrace,” the old man scoffed. “Can’t even handle your own fiancée? Don’t go around claiming you’re my disciple then. That girl has a powerful Yin meridian.”
“For someone like you, who’s trained in the Yin-Yang Sutra, she’s practically a miracle pill! Especially for you… Your excessive Yang energy is clogging your meridians. Only she can fix it.”
Qin Yu grimaced as that problem had been with him since childhood. He’d practiced the wrong method, building up Yang energy without converting it properly. The result nearly drove him into qi deviation. If the old man hadn’t saved him, he’d have been done for.
Now, unless he found a woman with a strong Yin meridian, he could never clear his inner channels. Ordinary women couldn’t handle his Yang—trying would only hurt them.
For twenty years, he’d suppressed that energy. His strength, barely a fraction of its full potential, had been shackled ever since.
“It’s not like I don’t want to try,” Qin Yu grumbled. “But Shuishui refuses this engagement. And now there’s this Su Mingxuan guy suddenly in the picture. She likes him—more and more every day. She won’t even look at me.”
If it weren’t for Su Mingxuan, Qin Yu was certain he could win her over. The Yin-Yang balance would be restored, and his power fully unleashed. All his problems stemmed from one man.
The old man was silent for a long time before he finally spoke. “Who did you say?”
“Su Mingxuan,” Qin Yu said with a bitter edge. “Don’t know where he came from. Since he arrived in Tianhai, all these big shots have been bending over backwards for him. They even threw him a banquet.”
Another silence.
Then came the reply. “Yu’er, come back.”
“What?” Qin Yu blinked in disbelief. “Just like that? You’re giving up on Shuishui? What about my condition? My meridians? And you want me to just hand her over to that guy?”
“Su Mingxuan,” the old man said slowly, his tone darkening. “Do you know what kind of person he is? He’s from the Su family. Do you really think a ‘mere Su Mingxuan’ is something you can say lightly?”
“When you return, take my Divine Doctor Token and go to the Heavenly Sword Palace. Seek their protection. Otherwise, not even the gods will be able to save you.”
Qin Yu’s heart skipped a beat.
Was it really that serious? Did Su Mingxuan really have that kind of power?
“I think you’re exaggerating,” Qin Yu muttered. “Sure, he’s got armed guards following him, but if I had my full strength back, taking them down wouldn’t be hard.”
“You fool,” the old man snapped. “You think those guards are all he has? You think the Su family’s influence ends there? Do you know why the ancient martial sects never dare reveal themselves to the world? Why even a mighty group like Heavenly Sword Palace hides in the shadows?”
“I’ll tell you why. Because under heaven, all lands belong to the sovereign…”
Qin Yu stood frozen.
What the old man meant was…
“Come back, while you still have a chance,” the old man said, voice low and heavy.
Qin Yu turned to look out at the vast ocean, the waves crashing endlessly on the shore, his heart filled with reluctant sorrow.
“Alright,” he murmured.
He ended the call, turned around, and stared longingly at the restaurant entrance one last time.
Shuishui… wait for me.
