Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Swallow Darkness with Darkness!!
I took out the bottle that had been absorbing the island's power, looked at the dense black liquid, and drank.
The island's power surged through my body, saturating every fiber.
Our enemy, the dragon before us, was fueled by light-devouring darkness.
Since light couldn't pierce the shadow, we would use darkness to consume darkness—to reclaim the light!
The black island power seeped from me, tinting my silver-white armor to a glossy black gemstone hue, streaked with gold.
Holiness faded slightly, replaced by solemnity and sharp, aggressive edges.
My once-bright golden hair dimmed, becoming pale and battle-hardened—no longer a pampered youth, but a victorious general.
My light blue eyes flickered golden, fully awakened by dragon blood.
If my current form was reversed, with each spiritual breakthrough my armor would shrink, revealing white dragon scales.
Now, glimpses of these scales showed on my neck, a dazzling contrast against my darkened armor.
The clash of white dragon scales and somber black plate made me look both holy and majestic—an unyielding swordsman of light walking through darkness.
I was the flickering light that refused to be snuffed out.
The Sword of Glorious Victory in my hand shimmered black and gold, the dragon shadow infused deeply within the blade.
Reforged and attuned perfectly to me, it changed as I changed.
"It's time! Father!"
The ruins shook as black magic and dragon breath crashed for hours.
Both sides, backed by powerful reinforcements, prepared for a prolonged battle.
Vortigern found me harder and harder to subdue.
Blood shared, I harnessed the island's power like him.
To suppress me, he'd need to sever the island's energy—but doing so would stall Britain's destruction and weaken himself.
So he focused increasingly on me.
This distraction gave Artoria her chance.
Standing atop the Tower at the End of the World, she grasped the Spear of Light.
When the dragon's gaze fixed on me, she leapt down from the ruins.
She drove the spear hard into the base of Vortigern's tail—pinning it firmly to the ground.
The strike disrupted the dragon's leg movement.
Despite its immense size, the dragon relied on flight and island power to dodge and endure attacks.
Its defense was strong enough to withstand strikes from my holy sword and recover slowly.
That stalemate had dragged on—until now.
With the dragon's movement restricted, this was a rare, critical opportunity.
After so much attrition, the final blow was at hand.
Behind Vortigern, Artoria raised her holy sword.
Though dimmer than before, it still gleamed fiercely.
"This is the battle to protect Britain! This light is the hope of the stars—the proof of life illuminating the earth!"
The golden sword lifted high, power coalescing.
I dodged a swipe from my father's claws, raised my black-and-gold holy sword, and took a deep breath.
I channeled all my magic into it.
"Melusine! Hold nothing back! Let this demon dragon see who the strongest dragon is now! I'll blaze the path forward! I will claim a brilliant victory! Cut down evil! Drive out dark spirits! Block this shining light—"
Melusine soared high, revealing a confident smile.
She readied to demonstrate the Horizon Dragon's power.
Her body became a beam of light, piercing halo after halo, soaring from earth into the distant sky.
"Kneel before me! Reveal the strongest heart on this planet from the decaying corpse! Breath of fire, wings of iron, like a newborn rising in twilight!"
Above the horizon and dark clouds, beneath the distant sun, she opened her chest.
A powerful heartbeat and crushing pressure surged forth.
"Witness it, [Sword of Contracted Victory]!"
"[Sword of Glorious Victory]!!"
"[The Pure Pulse That No One Knows]!!"
Golden and black-gold light blasted the dragon from all sides.
The golden heart pulse crashed down like a spear, capable of destroying worlds.
Dark clouds over the island shattered beneath the explosion of magic.
Gawain and the others stared in awe.
This was no fight for bystanders.
As the magic dissipated, Melusine fell behind me.
Feeling the island's power wane, my reversed form began to fade.
Artoria put away her spear, steadying herself.
"Is it over?"
Only broken ruins and massive pits remained.
I closed my eyes, intuition guiding me toward the nearby rubble.
"It's over for now. Leave the rest to me. Now, it's time for me and Vortigern to be father and son."
With that, I drew my forging hammer and stepped toward the ruins.
