Merchant From Earth in the Magical World

Chapter 173: The First Battle in the Swamp_1

Olaf, now a Fifth Order Combat Werewolf, led four Combat Werewolves stealthily into the forest. Equipped with night vision goggles, they clearly saw two Lizardman guards who were supposed to be watching the camp but were instead dozing off.

Like predators honing in on prey, the werewolves moved as quietly as possible. They rapidly pounced on the Lizardmen before they were aware, bringing them down. Two werewolves clamped their hands over the Lizardmen's mouths to silence them, while the other two plunged daggers into their hearts. The Lizardman sentries struggled briefly before growing still.

Having dealt with the Lizardmen watching the camp, Olaf sent a signal via walkie-talkie that the mission was accomplished. The warriors in the camp sprang into action. They equipped their armor and gathered their weapons with utmost speed. Then, they left the camp to line up in formation at the edge of the forest, ready to move.

Combat Werewolves armed with shields and firefighting axes formed the front line. Behind them were human crossbowmen and Werewolf Archers. Yan Xing and all the Werewolf Beast Tamers rode out from the camp on their Chocobos. Large flocks of Carnivorous Birds surrounded them to their rear and sides. The army was ready to launch its attack.

Standing amidst his troops, Yan Xing looked up at the night sky. The moon shone bright and white, and the stars were dazzlingly clear. Amid the gentle breezes, the distinctive rotting scent of the swamp wafted through the air.

In the distant sky, a cluster of red dots could be seen speeding towards them. In Yan Xing's mind space, Chui Chui, now dressed in an adjutant's uniform, saluted. She reported loudly, "Master! The tactical bomber fleet has entered the bombing course. Please issue the attack order!"

Yan Xing glanced at his watch: 3:49 AM. Communication with the Steel Fang Troop was clear. The morale of all units was high.

Yan Xing unleashed the skill "Inspire," further boosting his army's morale, then waved his hand and commanded, "Attack!"

The Werewolf Beast Tamers accompanying the army immediately cast Defense Magic spells on the frontline Combat Werewolves. The spell effects manifested as faint glows of various colors around them. The gathered flock of Carnivorous Birds, wings half-spread and necks outstretched, let out GUGU cries and charged toward the forest ahead.

Chui Chui directed the tactical bomber fleet to spray gasoline over the pre-designated fire zones. As two ignited Molotov cocktails were thrown from the air, the gasoline set the marshy areas on either side of the forest ablaze. Under the fierce heat, the previously deployed Molotov cocktails exploded one by one, igniting even larger fires.

The massive flames startled the Lizardmen lurking in the swamp. These Seventh Order swamp creatures, terrified of the flames, scattered, swimming towards waters further from the fire. Having completed their mission, the tactical bomber drones returned to base.

The ferocious flock of Carnivorous Birds had already stormed into the forest. Immediately after, the Combat Werewolves, shields at the ready, charged into the woods. The human crossbowmen and Werewolf Archers followed in formation. Finally, Yan Xing led the Werewolf Beast Tamers into the forest, riding their Chocobos.

The Lizardmen hidden within the forested strip were stunned by this sudden attack. They could not believe that they, the ambushers, were themselves ambushed! How did the enemy know we were in here?

Flames raged on both sides of the forested strip, and the cries of the magical lizards echoed from beyond the fire. The Lizardmen could not understand. The areas bordering the forest were all marshland, not only wet but also devoid of anything flammable. How did the fire start? Could it be that the enemy Mages used Fire Magic? But releasing such powerful magic would inevitably be accompanied by intense fluctuations in Magic Power. Why, when the enemy was casting spells, did our heroes not sense any change in the surrounding Magic Power?

Too many questions perplexed the Lizardmen. But they knew that the two firewalls separated the forest from the water bodies. The Lizard magical beasts ambushing in the pools certainly wouldn't dare wade through the firewalls to join the battle in the woods. Without this group of Seventh Order magical lizards, their combat strength would be reduced by nearly half.

However, we still have the Poison Flies, the Snakehide Buffaloes, and our powerful Lizardfolk Heroes.

Roused by the battle, Lizardman warriors grabbed their weapons, ready to fight. They believed that no matter how that strip of fire on the marshland had started, it could not burn forever.

As long as we hold out until the firewalls die down, the magical lizards lurking in the pools can emerge from both sides to strike the enemy. Our Poison Flies hiding in the woods can slow down the enemy's advance. Our Snakehide Buffaloes beside us can stall the enemy in the woods. We have Lizardman Beast Tamers. We have powerful Bipedal Flying Dragons and the even stronger Clan Leader with the long jaws. As long as we trap the enemy in the woods, victory will ultimately be ours!

But the Lizardmen could never have imagined that the Poison Flies, the pride of the Swamp Tribe, could be so utterly defeated. The enemy deployed large magical bird creatures. These magical bird creatures seemed to be the tailor-made natural predators of the Poison Flies.

They rampaged through the woods, locating the hiding spots of the Poison Flies with extreme precision and acuity. Against these magical bird creatures, the Poison Flies were powerless to retaliate. They perished one by one under the birds' iron talons, only to be pecked apart and swallowed whole.

What in the world is that!

Lizardmen who witnessed the Poison Flies being devoured were all stunned. Their expressions were identical to those of the Werewolves when they first witnessed the Carnivorous Birds devouring the Poison Flies.

The Swamp Tribe relied on ambushes in warfare, and ambushes relied on Poison Flies. Once the threat of the Poison Flies was neutralized, the Swamp Tribe warriors were at a loss as to how to fight.

The Carnivorous Birds joyfully scoured the woods, feasting on Poison Flies. The Combat Werewolves pushed forward unstoppably.

These were all Fifth Order Combat Werewolves, two orders higher than the Third Order Lizardmen and one order higher than the Fourth Order Blood Crown Lizardmen. In terms of physical prowess, the Combat Werewolves completely outmatched the Lizardmen in every aspect.

Regarding weaponry, the Lizardmen's Bone Arrows and crude stone or bone weapons posed no threat to the Combat Werewolves, who were equipped with Bulletproof Shields. However, the firefighting axes wielded by the Combat Werewolves could easily cleave through Lizardman bones.

Furthermore, for this ambush, the Lizardmen had scattered themselves across various hiding spots within the forested strip. Yan Xing's forces advanced through the woods so rapidly that the lurking Lizardmen had no time to regroup. Thus, the Lizardmen were caught scattered, easily divided, surrounded, and then eradicated by the charging Combat Werewolves and Carnivorous Birds.

Watching their comrades futilely attack the Werewolves' shields only to be cut down by axes, the remaining Lizardmen knew they were no match for these foes. Their only option was to retreat. The fiery barriers on both sides still blazed. The hastily retreating Lizardmen could not form any defensive line capable of halting the Werewolves' advance.

However, the Lizardmen did not resign themselves to fate. From the rear, Lizardman Beast Tamers brought forth fifty Snakehide Buffaloes. Finally, with these powerful Ninth Order magical beasts, they managed to momentarily halt the advance of the Combat Werewolves who were relentlessly pursuing the fleeing Lizardmen.
