Chapter 4: Abyssal God Activation (Part 2)
In a rush and unable to get home to play games, I decided to put on my gaming headset right on the street, squatting next to a trash bin, and started playing.
Xia Yubing entered a fast-food restaurant, and the staff dressed as a Fourth Rule Agent saluted her:
"Dear Female Citizen, how can I assist you today?"
"Fourth Rule Agent."
Xia Yubing smirked:
"Uh, is it really necessary to cosplay such a shady character..."
The staff member gave a wry smile:
"No choice, the influence of 'Starry Abyss' is just too big now. It suddenly became a hit this morning, and the headquarters immediately sent us uniforms and training, urging us to get up to speed."
"This is what happens when gaming goes to your head."
Xia Yubing shook her head:
"Please get me a butterbeer coffee, a beef pizza, fried shrimp, and a strawberry sundae."
"Sure, I'll get that ready for you right away."
After finishing, the staff mysteriously showed a red passport and whispered:
"Actually, I'm a Federal Person. Long live Lord David Lyn."
Xia Yubing was speechless for a moment. She went to her seat and, while waiting for her food, dialed Ou Shen's contact:
"Mr. Long Yuqiong, I've already found the information you need."
"Thank you."
In the projection, Ou Shen was in the club, wearing an infiltration suit full of connection wires, seemingly ready to enter the gaming pod.
Xia Yubing clearly noticed that his linking method was different from others, with a unique plug inserted in the back of his head, his eyes constantly blinking with light.
Ou Shen was about to say something when there was a commotion next to him.
"Hey! Long Yuqiong, what on earth are you doing?"
A girl shouted unhappily.
"...Excuse me for a moment."
Ou Shen, with a face of indifference, left the projection view and went to the side.
"I remember you; you used to be a substitute in the XXG team, right? What's your name... Cumin Powder?"
"Ah, yes, it's impressive you even remembered that. What did your recent decision mean? Are we not considered human anymore?"
"The budget is this limited; good steel should be used on the blade of a knife. You guys should first go and level up in PVE mode."
"At least let us out of the team. We're not allowed to participate in practice matches, not allowed to transfer, what do you want us to do?"
"'Starry Abyss' just opened its servers; every team is definitely scouting for people. If you end up in another team, it wouldn't be worth it."
"You won't even pretend... isn't this blatant ice-out?"
"As long as you know—just stay quietly at the base and find a team to explore on your own, don't occupy our team's boosting resources."
"What about the money? Aren't you giving us anything?"
"The payment is clearly written in the new contract. 'Qiongyu' has already acquired XXG, now you all have to follow Qiongyu's contract."
"Screw you. I'm done with this!"
The argument escalated, and due to the fixed angle, Xia Yubing couldn't see the other person's appearance, but she seemed to have some memory of the name 'Cumin Powder.'
Who was that...
Xia Yubing didn't have time to recall as Ou Shen had already returned to the camera view.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Teacher Xia Yubing."
Ou Shen politely apologized, showing no hint of the cold indifference he had shown to the ordinary team members earlier.
"Haha, it's fine—it's normal for team members to have conflicts, not being satisfied with contracts, that's normal."
Xia Yubing chuckled awkwardly.
"Indeed." Ou Shen gave a slight smile, his unconcealed coldness was almost glaring to Xia Yubing, and he casually said, "Has the intelligence I previously commissioned you to investigate been analyzed?"
"Basically organized."
Although the other person made her uncomfortable, when it came to business, Xia Yubing didn't hesitate and immediately pulled out a thick stack of papers from her bag:
"Regarding the Helenic alphabet used in Pathway Levels, I've done some tracing, and the results are quite interesting. It's very similar to some materials named 'English' that I found recently."
"What's your conclusion?"
"Helenic (Ελληνικό) can be transcribed to spell 'Greek.' Translated, it is 'Greece.'
Xia Yubing said:
"I can confirm that this so-called origin of English can be traced back to a period using Greek letters. In other words..."
"The civilization in Starry Abyss seems to have been created with reference to the real world's 'English.' And English is thought to be a language used by a civilization from Earth."
"...It could also be another way."
Ou Shen narrowed his eyes slightly:
"The Starry Abyss using the Helenic alphabet and the Earth using English are essentially two sides of the same coin."
"Oh, I understand what you mean."
Xia Yubing grasped his point:
"In reality, if two regions have similar living environments, similar climates, and the same elemental composition, they might develop similar civilizations, even if separated by vast distances."
"Civilizations are mostly born by river sources, creation myths often feature a 'world-destroying flood,' and powerful beings, including dragons, are universally revered alongside worship of procreation and immortality."
"If the environmental conditions of Starry Abyss and this Earth are similar, the creatures they give rise to could very well be the same humans, with similar civilizations, and even the values might be alike."
"That's exactly right."
Ou Shen took a deep breath.
—Lai Anding didn't lie to him, and what the Player said was also true.
