Chapter 19: YOUR NAME

~~~~~~~[START]
He wants me to kill.
To kill anything, anyone, without question.
Without remorse, without hesitation, without spirit.
How far into the future could he have seen?
 How much probability and how many options will my current rash choices affect?
He must have seen something. Why would he make a deal with a child?
Why would he make a deal with me?
I'm still weak, far too weak.
Someone else who is stronger would have been of more help, so yes, he definitely saw something, but how far was it?
The deal is simple: I have to kill anyone he chooses, no matter if the person is a hero or a villain, and in exchange, he will give me an identity, a life, a future.
Well, if I'm being honest, I don't mind it.
Unlike the first time I killed someone, it doesn't bother me that much.
For me, killing a person is the same as killing a cow; the first few seconds are kind of hard to watch, yes, the cow cries in pain and sorrow, but after it's dead, all you think about is cooking it.
Just like me, after I kill someone, all I can think about are the benefits of his death.
In my case, the benefits are template fusions, so yes, death has never come as a problem.
Was this the reason he chose me?
Yes, maybe.
Well, why not? Why wouldn't he choose a child who wouldn't hesitate when it came to taking a life?
Why wouldn't he choose a child who would use any means possible to win, whether it be cutting the enemy's genitals or stabbing his eye socket with a scissor?
In this world, I am currently very weak, yes, the gauntlet is considered a dangerous place in the underworld, but in reality,
it's an underground bin, filled with everyday hobos who were lucky enough to be born with strong quirks.
Which person who is truly considered strong would go to such a place?
I was fighting the weak, I was fighting those with strong quirks but zero brain cells to use those quirks effectively, I was fighting the ants, but now, right now,
I had accepted the key to a door housed by animals, no, a key to a door housed by monsters.
_________ ...[GENERAL POV]
...
.
Sitting down on a medium-sized one-sleeper bed, Ken had both hands balancing his face, his expression one of thought.
Then Ken, as if triggered by something, slowly stood up, and moved his body, walking towards the door, and opening it on arrival.
As he opened it, a woman far taller than him stood opposite, looking at him with an expression of confusion and wonder.
 "Did you sense me?" Lady Nagant asked, lifting her brow in confusion.
"Something like that," Ken replied, as he walked out and closed the door.
Lady Nagant, as if not bothered, started walking away with fast but smooth speed, with Ken following.
They left a large building that looked like a hotel.
Ken, looking at the many people that were present, unlike the people in Kamino Ward who walked around carrying faces and expressions of endless stress and struggles, everyone here had a smile.
The walls retained their color, and the streets remained clean, so clean one would think they cleaned themselves.
The foreign smell of fresh air and the constant laughter flying ever so free, it was beautiful, something Ken had forgotten.
As they walked out, they entered a black armored car, its windows tinted with a dark color, impossible to penetrate with human sight. Lady Nagant took the wheel and drove off.
It was 2 hours, and she said nothing, but carried a face of calm and indifference.
Ken felt triggered by this and started to try and make small talk, but his attempts were futile. "Ok, I'm sorry," he said.
 "I didn't mean what I said back then, but in my defense, it's really stupid to get angry at a kid," Ken continued, relaxing his back on the seat as if giving up on his actions.
Lady Nagant just looked at him with the side of her eyes and sighed slightly, remembering a very important factor to note: the stunning fact that Odin was a kid.
How could she forget? Shaking her head, she couldn't help but feel a bit of shame remembering the treatment she agreed to enforce on him, but again, the shame disappeared when she remembered his actions.
"Why did you agree?"
Lady Nagant asked, with a voice so serious but soft.
"I mean, why choose this type of path, the constant killing, doesn't it bother you?" she continued, shaking her head with each word.
Ken simply looked at her in disbelief, his expression with a sense of disappointment.
"Are all heroes this stupid?" he asked, not believing what he just heard her say.
Lady Nagant's expression became one of frustration as a red vein was visible on the side of her head.
"Do you always have to be so fuckin' rude?" she said, not even sparing a glance at him.
After a few minutes, she grew too curious. "What did you mean by stupid?" she asked.
Ken simply smiled softly in response.
How long has it been since he has had a conversation?
How long?
Even with Meg, it never felt like a conversation but business, and now here was someone who was in the same position as him, someone in the position of being below a greater power.
 "Think about it, do you think if I refused the job, I would have freedom?" he asked.
 "And no, we both know escaping from Tartarus is impossible, but if I did, even if, do you really think an organization that has most control of the news, pro heroes, and television would let someone like me go?
Do you think he will let me walk free?" he asked, looking at her as she stared at the oncoming road.
"Ohh," that's all she said, realizing what he meant.
"Even if I run, even if I hide, even if you and most witnesses think that my crimes were a state of defense or trauma, it still doesn't matter,
because in this world it doesn't matter what you did, it doesn't matter the reasons; the only thing that matters is what they think you did, what they think,
and he and the whole hero association have that power," Ken said, looking at her.
Although his mind was free and vulnerable, his expression and composure remained unnoticed and calm.
 "Well, that doesn't give you the permission to call me stupid," Nagant said, as she drove into a parking lot.
They walked out of the car and entered a large glass building.
Going inside, Nagant talked to the receptionist as Ken just sat there on one of the waiting sofas, looking like a beautiful street kid - beautiful because of his eyes, white hair, and unique features, street kid due to the dirty dark clothes he currently had on.
He was smelling, although his smell was faint and not that much, the place they were inside was filled with individuals in suits and well-fitted dresses.
Nagant, after talking to the receptionist, called Ken to her with her hand, indicating that he should follow.
As he followed, they entered an elevator and moved to the very top floor.
"You should really take a bath," Lady Nagant said, looking at his smelly figure that stood below, complimenting his choice of clothes; although they were dirty, they seemed to be very comfortable when it came to the required measurements to give exceptional freedom of movement in a fight.
 "Wow, look at this, a rich hero telling a homeless person to take a bath, isn't that rather heroic?" Ken replied, smiling to himself, walking out of the elevator that had opened.
As they walked through the busy stalls of working individuals, they entered an office that had a 'Do Not Enter' sign written at the entrance.
"The Fuck, did I tell you about entering Charlie!" said a fat man, who later widened his eyes in embarrassment as he realized the person who entered was not who he thought it was.
Why wouldn't he be embarrassed? Lady Nagant was a hottie who would make any guy run for her like money any time of the week, so she walked to him and spoke.
With each passing second, his expression was changing, becoming one of stress and resentment.
He would casually steal glances at Ken who was standing by the door, and stretch his head in response.
Raising his hand and calling Ken to come closer, he turned on his computer and started typing the unknown with great efficiency, then after some minutes, leaned back on his office chair and placed both fat arms on top of his head.
"Ok, kid, what do you want your name to be?" he asked, surprising Ken.
"Kid," he said, as if holding back his edge to swear.
"What's your name gonna be?" he asked, calming himself as he remembered the person who was standing in front of him.
"Ken," he answered, "Ken Kaneki."
