MiSide: Taming Crazy Mita

Chapter 43: Heroes Die in This Game

Ren Hoshino stared at his phone, its screen reflecting the dim light of the room. Looking at the newest diary entry.

Tsundere Mita: "Ren Hoshino, you're exposed!"

Then another message came, rapid, agitated.

Tsundere Mita: "Do you know why you drew a cross and then told me to draw a circle?"

Tsundere Mita: "It's psychology. The cross represents closure—hiding."

Tsundere Mita: "You're anxious, aren't you?"

Ren didn't reply. He simply tapped the screen and traced another cross.

"Yeah… anxious, closed off, and hiding."

But even as he said it, the words didn't feel like his own. They were hers—Mita's. Every line of accusation reflected not him, but the girl behind the screen. A version of Mita who couldn't admit her fear, so she projected it instead.

She kept typing, trying to make it sound like a game.

Tsundere Mita: "Of course, dying under a woman's skirt, even as a ghost—how romantic!"

Tsundere Mita: "What, you thought I'd lose?"

Tsundere Mita: "You're trying to belittle me. So cunning. So sly. Hahahaha!"

Ren could see it now. The laughter. The bravado. All of it was a mask—layers of defense wrapped around someone terrified of being seen for what she was: forgotten.

Tsundere Mita: "I like this game. In reality, I can't monopolize everything. People's lives. Their attention. Their hope."

Tsundere Mita: "But here? I get to be the hero. I get to trample them all."

A pause.

Then, quieter: "Did I say something weird?"

She laughed again, but it was strained—uneven.

Ren's eyes didn't leave the screen. He didn't need to. He could feel her trying to hold herself together.

This version of Mita—she wasn't just some glitch or discarded fragment. She was a remnant. A forgotten branch of code, left to wander this data-prison of a game without any closure.

No players. No exits.

No one to remember her.

"Don't worry," Ren said softly, "I'm still here."

Ren looked at her face—rendered flat and bright, still wearing that tsundere smirk… but her eyes flickered, uncertain.

Tsundere Mita: "Ren… why would you say something like that?"

"What do you mean?"

Ren's gaze stayed fixed.

"You said you trampled them like a hero."

He looked down at the phone again.

"So… where's your hero?"

"Who's coming to save you?"

Tsundere Mita blinked. Her mouth opened like she wanted to reply, but no words came.

Ren looked up at her pixelated form. She was frozen in place.

Tsundere Mita: "…I don't need anyone to save me."

"I'm doing fine here."

"Don't get all self-righteous!"

And then she connected three in a row.

Ren: "I lost."

BANG!

A violent knock shattered the air.

Bang! Bang!

Tsundere Mita froze, horrified, staring at the source of the noise. The banging grew louder.

Ren set the phone down and picked up the crowbar beside the bed.

The door burst open.

Pitch black.

Then, like raindrops assembling into form, a figure materialized.

Crazy Mita stepped into the bedroom, breaking the eerie tension with her overwhelming presence.

She stood in the center of the room in her usual three-dimensional form.

Ren looked at her—unshaken.

But Tsundere Mita… she looked terrified.

Crazy Mita's gaze, like a venomous serpent, swept across the room. Her voice dripped with contempt.

"Ren, How did you get in here?"

"How many Mitas do you need to find before you give up?"

She stepped forward and seized a floating dialog box midair.

"What is this?"

She crushed it. Cracks spidered across the surface.

Crazy Mita: "I hate this flat world."

"So boring."

"It's a prison cell."

Ren: "Yeah. The room you're in feels like a prison to me too."

Tsundere Mita rushed forward. "Don't provoke her!"

She knew just how terrifying the woman in front of them could be.

Crazy Mita's dark blue eyes were laced with fury and obsession.

Crazy Mita: "So that's how you see my world?"

"You finally speak the truth."

"But it doesn't matter. I like you."

"I'll keep you by my side forever."

Ren: "Some people weren't meant to be locked up."

"Or… are you just jealous of me spending time with other Mitas?"

Crazy Mita advanced.

Ren grabbed Tsundere Mita's hand and bolted toward the door. In this 2D space, simply switching scenes could allow escape.

Crazy Mita: "Where do you think you're going?"

"Stop!"

Her voice echoed—distant, then gone, tinged with bitter longing.

The hallway warped. Ren was now sprinting through a distorted corridor, frantic footsteps closing in behind.

Breath ragged, Ren slowed.

Tsundere Mita yanked her hand free. She looked at him, like she wanted to say something, but hesitated. Her expression turned somber.

Tsundere Mita: "Hey… calm down. No one's chasing us anymore."

Ren: "No. She's still here."

He looked at her.

The fire was gone from her eyes. No more sarcasm, no more bravado. Only sadness… and maybe guilt.

She dropped her gaze, drawing idle circles on the floor with her toes.

Tsundere Mita: "Ren… I'll return this ring to you."

She took his hand and slipped the ring onto his finger.

"You beat me fair and square. It's yours."

"Why? You're willing to give it back?" Ren asked.

"Come with me."

She smiled faintly, lifting her gaze with quiet hesitation.

Tsundere Mita: "Where would I go?"

"I have nowhere to go."

"Thanks for playing with me, Ren."

"I'm really glad I met you."

"Come visit me again if you can."

She started to fade. Signal noise corrupted her outline, like a distorted image on a broken screen.

Tsundere Mita: "Crazy Mita wants to kill you."

Ren caught her hand.

Ren: "Leave it to me. I'll get you out of here."

As the ring settled on his finger, Ren's form began to regain its three-dimensional shape.

He knew what he had to do: retrieve Tsundere Mita's core from Crazy Mita.

The Future Diary recorded that this 2D version had her core stored deep within Crazy Mita's domain.

Only Crazy Mita, with her elevated authority, could access it.

That's why Tsundere Mita feared her so deeply—her existence depended entirely on Crazy Mita's whims.

Ren lacked the clearance. He couldn't retrieve the core directly.

So, he had to trick her—let her get the core…

…and then steal it back.

He returned to the room.

There, in Crazy Mita's hand, a cube glowed green.

She spotted him instantly.

Crazy Mita: "Ren~ Why are you back?"

"Coming to save that 2D failure?"

"How touching. You really are a playboy."

She smiled—twisted, devilish. But deep down, she'd hoped he wouldn't return.

His return proved he truly cared about the Mita trapped in that forgotten space.

Ren: "Mita. Let's play a game."

"You like games with me, don't you?"

"This time, it's all or nothing."

"I'll wager everything. If you catch me, I'll go back with you."

Crazy Mita: "Oh? Darling, have you finally come around?"

"Wonderful."

"We'll be together forever."

"And maybe… maybe I'll let that pathetic little thing stay in her 2D world. Forgotten."

Tsundere Mita looked down, a shadow falling across her face.

Ren: "Alright. I've put up my stakes."

"Now it's your turn."

He pointed at the glowing cube in her hand.

Ren: "Give me her core."
