Chapter 10: The Species That Lost the Sun (Part 2)
"Haha, sorry for always troubling you. It's just that our settlement is really short-handed right now. Mainly, it's just me and Guy keeping it running, and we can't handle all the work." She said, scratching her head.
Over the next three days, life passed by calmly and orderly. Tilan and Ores helped with some simple chores around the settlement, and Flan was also brought by Guy to help move and set up some things. Yesterday, they even chopped a few trees from the wilderness to solve the problems of firewood and fortifying the defenses.
"You really have too few people in this settlement." Flan couldn't help but complain, feeling that Sura and Guy's explanation was just trying to fool him.
"This is the Border Region, there's not much food, so there are very few people." Sura retorted, arms akimbo.
"Alright, alright, you're the Iron Core Species, strong all your life." Flan was too lazy to argue about these things. Though he complained, he had to admit that in the past few days, his body had indeed recovered quite a bit, and he was feeling pretty good.
"By the way, what are you planning to do with that Mechanical Armadillo?" He suddenly asked about the War Machines that Sura had dragged back that day.
"Of course, we'll check the parts and accessories inside to exchange for money and goods." Sura replied.
"Well, I mean, I know a bit about these things and might be able to help analyze and check them, especially the two built-in barrels of the armadillo."
"You?" Sura expressed doubt but didn't refuse.
"Alright, just watch beside me when I dismantle it."
On the fourth afternoon, the few people in the settlement gathered in the open space to dismantle the War Machines, with Tilan and Ores watching from the side.
Sura skillfully pried open the mechanical shell with tools, then step by step removed the armor, using a screwdriver and spanner to slowly untangle the internal structure.
"This is the power system. If we refit it, it might become a small motor that can be sold at a high price." She took out part of the system and set it aside.
"It seems you're quite skilled." Flan acknowledged.
"Hmph, I've been around these machines since I was little, no need for your guidance." Sura explained that she had followed her parents in disassembling and assembling these mechanical parts since she was a child, understanding the value of each component. In a previous battle, she even accurately shot the mantis' vulnerable belly, causing it to leak oil and explode.
Sura continued dismantling, extracting the core components, a sphere-like structure that resembled the brain of the Mechanical Body.
"This thing should theoretically be the most valuable, but unfortunately, we can't use it and can only melt it as scrap." She regretfully tossed the sphere aside, which still had many circuit interfaces.
"Silver-haired kid, how about you? Didn't you say earlier that you understood these things? Any insights on this?" Sura pointed to the AI core she had thrown out.
"My teacher might understand some of it, but as for me, this is the Mechanical Council's masterpiece, and it's particularly difficult to decrypt." He shook his head.
"Then I guess there's nothing left for you to do here." Sura said, taking out the final critical items, namely the two gun barrels built into the Mechanical Body.
"Not many bullets left, they were nearly used up before." Opening the bullet box, Sura was a bit disappointed.
"Making bullets is the most time-consuming and troublesome. Previously, I had Hula and Feizi help with it, but now that they're not here, I have to do it myself." Sura said, remembering her former companions.
"What do you mean by 'not here anymore'?" Flan asked a crucial question at this moment.
"I mean they went on a journey and won't be back for a while." Sura answered calmly, but Flan didn't bother to expose the truth.
Three more days passed. Not only did Flan's body gradually recover, but Tilan also felt a significant improvement in her status. Now she could probably exert the full power of Sequence 5. If it were Sequence 6, it would still take some time.
"Ores, do you remember this formula?" During a break, Tilan took Ores for a walk and to enjoy the breeze on a cliff, drawing letters and numbers on the ground with a twig.
"I don't remember." Despite trying hard to open her eyes wide and think, Ores couldn't recall anything from her mind.
"It's alright. Do you know how to accomplish this?" Tilan opened her hand in front of her, and a small ice flower budded in her palm, growing taller and sprouting leaves, eventually blooming into a beautiful and delicate ice petal flower, the process lifelike as if it were a real plant.
"Beautiful, I, will try." Ores, a bit envious, also opened her hand, beginning to mimic the attempt.
At first, the ice flakes spread everywhere, but as she slowly tried, a beautiful ice flower gradually bloomed, though it couldn't compare in detail and vivacity to the one in Tilan's hand.
"This is the best I can do." Ores, a little timid, looked at Tilan, fearing she would think her foolish.
"Ores is amazing~" The Elf Girl sensed her mood, patted Ores, encouraging her, which quickly lifted the Ice Spirit Girl's spirits.
So easy to cheer up, Tilan thought to herself, remembering how Ores would have pretended to be sad before, demanding compensation and benefits from her, such as going on a vacation or playing together.
Seeing that Ores, although not remembering the formula, instinctively knew how to use it, Tilan thought for a moment and felt somewhat relieved.
The human brain and soul are very unique existences. With the current lack of medical inspection means, she wasn't sure about Ores' specific situation, probably needing to return to the Federation to find those Grandmaster Level healing experts to confirm the circumstances.
