Chapter 41 Choices Under Torture_2
"Is it high? Not really. In any major company in the Central Star Domain, most full-time employees are on this salary scale,"
"Don't underestimate yourself, we are students from 'Lapis Lazuli Academy,' ranked 237th in the Federation, and our resumes mark us as elites," the senior laughed and explained to the two.
"Guess why the landlady trusts us so much, giving us the key card as soon as she met us? It's because we are students of 'Lapis Lazuli Academy,' backed by our school's endorsement of our character and capabilities. Even if we don't do well, a word to the school could quickly send someone capable to take over and ensure the quality of the final output,"
"As for theft, it's the least of their concerns. Firstly, the value of a student from 'Lapis Lazuli Academy' far exceeds the profit from remodeling this house. No one would risk their reputation and student status over such minor profits,"
"But if it were students from some unknown, third-tier schools that might close at any time, do you think she would trust them like us? That would be impossible,"
"Maybe the decor and setup we see now were done by some senior who graduated, and because it turned out well, they once again assigned the task to our academy,"
Listening to the senior sharing his experiences and observations, the two were filled with yearning until an hour later, when the talkative senior gradually stopped due to fatigue.
"Alright, that's the end of today's sharing. Later, follow me closely to learn the process, so when you're seniors or graduates, you can use it too,"
"Yes, senior!" the two replied excitedly.
Seeing the two motivated juniors, Luna nodded happily. Although both were freshmen, with their help, many tedious and minor tasks could be delegated to them, making his own work much lighter. Moreover, students who could enter 'Lapis Lazuli Academy' were definitely competent.
This way, the three of them were busy until late into the night before leaving, and in the following days, they continued to move between school and this residence, examining and selecting the future decoration styles.
Three nights later, Shan was the last one to leave.
'Is it this late already?' He opened his personal terminal and saw the time displayed as 22:07:28, he thought to himself.
The corner of the screen showed unread messages, including a vacation gathering invitation from classmates, exchange messages from 'Connector' companions, and a special message from 'Alanna.'
[Keep a low profile recently, someone is investigating us]
Investigation? He recalled recent events; no wonder there had been notably few activities in the organization lately, and those that occurred were merely simple trainings.
But this should be irrelevant to him; after all, he was just a new member of the organization, not acquainted with many companions, the most familiar being Cui Xing Alanna.
Pocketing his personal terminal, after a busy day Shan stood in front of the high-rise floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the scene below, contemplating when he might also have such a big house to live in.
If he could also find a life partner, then nothing could be better. Alanna's face briefly crossed his mind, but he soon dismissed the thought. Although Alanna was somewhat affectionate towards him, she had not shown any special care.
It's better not to overthink it, in case she is just like this with all members, he advised himself.
After packing up, Shan entered the elevator, went down to the ground floor, and then left.
There was a distance from here to the Supersonic Train station. If he had money, he could call a Hover Car to take him back to school, but for now he needed to save money and head to the station by foot.
Walking through a quiet and luxurious residential area and entering an underground tunnel, then coming out and turning toward a street, he was not far from the station.
Through the transparent circular glass, a Supersonic Train whizzed by in a flash, its orange light swiftly sweeping past the streets and scenery on both sides, looking like some sort of Miracle in the night, astonishing and stunning those new to the Central Star Domain.
From his initial surprise to now gradually getting used to it, Shan would even stop walking whenever the train came by, facing the rushing train to enjoy the fleeting change as the orange light broke through the darkness.
Once again, he leaned on the railing, closed his eyes, and felt the orange light washing over his body.
The bright light pierced through his eyelids, the slightly warm orange light momentarily taking away the chill of the night, even melting a bit of the snow under his feet.
After the train passed, Shan prepared to hit the road again, but before he could open his eyes, an unfamiliar voice reached his ears.
"If I were you, I wouldn't walk alone in the night like this, nor would I close my eyes so easily," this voice made his heart tighten, then he abruptly opened his eyes, jumped up, his body turning briefly in the air before quickly crouching down.
"That's a very standard evasive posture; it seems you've learned quite a bit recently,"
The calm male voice continued, and now Shan could finally see the figure standing in front of him.
The man was dressed in dark blue, almost black, tight clothing, wearing fluorescent green goggles and a hexagonal breath mask; this attire was standard for "grey personnel," the special tight clothing covered his body entirely, effectively blocking various sensors to keep identity hidden, while also keeping the body flexible and providing some protection and invisibility.
"Who are you?" Shan asked, a hint of tension in his voice, a slight luminescence appearing in his eyes, but he quickly remembered the message he had received today and suppressed the impulse.
