Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Give Me a Reason
After completing the mission, **Setsuna** returned to his temporary residence, awaiting orders to return to space.
But today, he hesitated at the door. There was no visible sign of danger, yet something inside him kept warning him not to go in.
"Setsuna? You're back?"
"Shaz Crossroad."
It was **Setsuna**'s temporary neighbor, the so-called "Pseudo-Fool," **Shaz**.
Sometimes, fate works in mysterious ways. When **Setsuna** was with **AEU**, **Marina** had barely glanced outside and that fleeting glance led to their fateful meeting. **Setsuna**'s temporary neighbor was the **Crossroad** family. **Shaz** would later lose his girlfriend, Louise, for a while; his sister would be killed for knowing too much, which would make her hate the Gundams and **Celestial Being**. But eventually, by coincidence, he would join **Celestial Being**.
"Are you okay? Not feeling well?" **Shaz** asked, concerned.
"No, I'm fine."
"If you ever need help, don't hesitate to tell me."
"No need."
**Setsuna**'s internal alarm had quieted after **Shaz** interrupted him, perhaps because he was eager to avoid further contact.
He opened the door—safe. Closed the door—safe.
But the moment **Setsuna** relaxed, a hand grabbed his wrist from behind. Before he could react, his arm was locked behind him and he was slammed to the ground.
He tried to turn his head to see who it was, but a gun was pressed to the back of his head, forcing him to stop struggling.
"Give me a reason."
**Setsuna**'s eyes widened. At first, he thought it was some intelligence agency that had caught him. But then he recognized the voice—it was too familiar.
"Myer?"
"Give me a reason not to kill you, **Setsuna**."
**Myer**'s voice was cold, like a merciless assassin, sending chills down **Setsuna**'s spine.
"I am a Gundam Meister! I won't abandon **00 Gundam**!"
"That reason isn't enough. **Setsuna**, I'll give you another chance. You know why."
The pressure on **Setsuna** didn't ease, and the gun remained firmly pressed to the back of his head. **Setsuna** finally understood why **Myer** had snuck into his home, holding him at gunpoint.
"…**Marina Ismail** is different from everyone else. She seeks a completely different path from us. Perhaps... this is another opportunity." **Setsuna** organized his thoughts and responded. This wasn't just a fabricated excuse; it was something he genuinely believed.
"Another... opportunity?" **Myer** murmured, laughing bitterly. He released the pressure on **Setsuna** and pulled him up.
"Does this mean I've passed?" **Setsuna** asked, staring at **Myer**.
"I guess so. But **Setsuna**, I hope this is the last time. The organization's rules can't be ignored just because of your recklessness. When we return to space, you'll spend a week in confinement as punishment."
**Myer** never had any intention of executing **Setsuna**. He had known from the beginning that **Setsuna** would meet **Marina** and reveal his identity. If he wanted to stop it, he could have easily assigned **Setsuna** to a different mission with **Tieria**, and the issue would have been resolved.
But he didn't. **Myer** had intentionally allowed **Setsuna** to meet **Marina**, as she would become the second crucial turning point in his growth, after **Sashes**.
Coming here to question **Setsuna** was just a formality. If **Setsuna** couldn't provide a reasonable explanation, it would make the organization's rules meaningless, which would be disastrous for **Celestial Being**, a highly secretive organization.
Although **Myer** had often joked that **Celestial Being** had become a sieve, people like **Setsuna**, the Gundam Meisters, **Ptolemy**, and the new addition, **Professor Effman**, were still pure, so the rules had to be maintained.
"…Understood." **Setsuna**'s feelings were complex. He had always had a sense that **Myer** was just testing him and never truly intended to execute him, but he had no proof.
However… **Setsuna** didn't think too much about it. All he needed to know was that he could still pilot **00 Gundam** and remain a Gundam Meister. That was enough for him.
"I'm leaving for now. Don't forget the scheduled time."
"Mm."
After **Myer** left, **Setsuna** was left alone. Though he had come to handle **Setsuna**, **Wang Liumei** still needed some attention. The time apart wasn't long, but women… they always wanted attention.
As **Myer** stepped outside, he nearly collided with **Shaz**, who had been about to knock on the door.
"Mm? Isn't this **Setsuna**'s place?" **Shaz** asked, confused, looking at the unfamiliar **Myer**.
"Yes, I'm **Setsuna**'s distant cousin. I came to check on him today. Are you his friend?" **Myer** asked with a warm smile.
"Ah? No, I'm his neighbor. I wouldn't really call us friends yet."
"I see. And what's in your hand...?" **Myer** asked, noticing the food box in **Shaz**'s hands.
"Ah, these are muffins my sister made. She made too many, so I'm giving some to **Setsuna**," **Shaz** explained shyly, realizing it sounded like he was dumping excess food on someone else.
"I see, thank you for taking care of him. **Setsuna** is a bit of a loner, so he doesn't have many friends," **Myer** said as he took the food box. His warm, friendly tone made it easy for **Shaz** to like him instantly.
"Of course, we're neighbors. Helping each other is natural," **Shaz** responded, bashfully waving his hand.
**Myer** then opened the door and called out to **Setsuna**. "Hey, **Setsuna**, your friend is here to see you. Come out and greet him."
"No, I was just..." **Shaz** tried to explain, but **Setsuna**, with his usual neutral expression, stepped out. His eyes scanned between **Shaz**, **Myer**, and the food box in **Shaz**'s hand.
"Here, this is a kind gesture from someone. You must finish it," **Myer** said, pushing the food box into **Setsuna**'s hands with a smile.
Clearly, **Setsuna** was still unsure of the situation, but seeing the warm, inviting smile on **Myer**'s face, he nodded reluctantly.
"That's more like it. You should get along with your neighbors. You're young, and you should make more friends," **Myer** said as he ruffled **Setsuna**'s messy hair, then turned to **Shaz**, pressing **Setsuna**'s head down gently. "Please continue to take care of him, **Shaz**. That's all for now."
"Ah, I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm **Shaz Crossroad**, but you can just call me **Shaz**."
"**Shaz**-kun? I'm **Myer**, **Myer Stewart**."
"Hello, **Myer**-san."
"Mm, really nice young man. I'll leave **Setsuna** in your care, **Shaz**-kun. I have to go now."
"Ah, it's mutual care, **Myer**-san. Safe travels."
"Mm, goodbye."
As **Myer** walked away, the two of them stood there, a little awkward.
"Uh…" **Shaz** scratched his head, unsure of what to say.
"…Thanks."
"Ah, I'm glad you like it. Well…"
"Bang~"
Just when **Shaz** thought their neighborly relationship might progress, **Setsuna** slammed the door shut, shattering that illusion.
Meanwhile, as **Myer** drove away, he looked at the setting sun outside the window, a smile curling at the corner of his lips.
"**Shaz Crossroad**, huh? Heh, that was an interesting first meeting."
