Chapter 66: A Night of Celebration at the Tavern
In one of the largest taverns in the capital of the Kingdom of Holfort, a massive crowd of students was drinking and celebrating their admission to the academy. Almost everyone present was a noble—more precisely, the offspring of barons. Nobles from more prestigious families, such as viscounts, counts, marquises, and earls, preferred not to mingle with barons, considering them little more than commoners with slightly larger farms.
However, among the lively crowd filling the tavern, there was a single viscount who stood at the center of attention, surrounded by all these young nobles. More than that, he was the very reason for their celebration.
This viscount was none other than Leon Bartfort—the Hero and a figure revered among barons as their Savior. He had freed them from the rule of women from the Forest of Ladies, and ever since, every future baron saw him as their ally. This situation raised concerns among certain factions, including the royal family. However, since Leon's actions ultimately benefited the kingdom, and he even shared part of his spoils with the royal family, the monarchy soon stopped seeing him as a threat. The same could not be said for other factions—some openly opposed him, while others, such as House Redgrave and House Roseblade, sought to form alliances with him.
---
The tavern was alive with noise and merriment. Young nobles were drinking, talking loudly, and some were already swaying, having had too much to drink.
Among them was Leon himself… who was barely holding himself back from rushing to the restroom. He already felt nauseous.
"Why am I even here...?" he thought in despair, grimacing.
Not only had he been dragged to this celebration, but he had also been forced to drink! Neither the first Leon nor the second one had ever enjoyed alcohol, and now his stomach was in absolute turmoil.
His gaze swept across the excited students surrounding him. They laughed, cheered, and raised their glasses in his honor. Leon gave them a weak nod, doing his best to ignore the growing nausea.
"If I had known that popularity would lead to this, I would have done all my heroic deeds while wearing a mask!" he thought bitterly.
But then…
— "Wait a minute…" Leon muttered to himself.
The number of barons enrolling this year was staggering. No, it wasn't just large—it was an absolute record in the history of the academy!
— "I think I know why…" he mused, closing his eyes in thought.
The reason was obvious. With the Forest of Ladies no longer in existence, many barons had avoided being forcibly sent to the borders of hostile nations, such as the duchies. Furthermore, after the Forest of Ladies was officially declared a prohibited organization, all of its members' assets were confiscated. A portion of these riches was redistributed to the victims, providing many baron families with enough wealth to afford their children's education at the academy.
Leon glanced at the gathered students. Many of them were unfamiliar to him—neither from the game, nor the manga, nor the light novel. However, among them, a particular pair stood out…
Tony and Vito Langer—two brothers from a baron family.
These two were built like living mountains, their massive muscles making them look as if they had been carved from stone. They were walking juggernauts and had an uncontrollable love for alcohol.
But more importantly—they were among the most grateful people to Leon.
For five years, they had suffered under the rule of the Forest of Ladies and had trained their bodies to extreme levels just to survive.
And now, out of nowhere, both brothers suddenly dropped to one knee before Leon.
— "Lord Leon! We beg you!" they cried in unison.
— "Make us your knights! Let us serve you until the end of our days!"
Among nobles, there was an unspoken rule—if one noble knelt before another, it meant they were acknowledging them as their superior and pledging lifelong servitude.
Leon sighed.
— "No, guys," he shook his head. "I can't just take you in as my knights."
But the moment those words left his mouth, the brothers immediately begged him even more, bowing down so low that their foreheads almost touched the floor.
They swore to dedicate their lives to him and to carry out any command he gave.
In the end, seeing their determination, Leon gave in.
— "Alright, alright!" he waved his hand in exhaustion. "I'll give you a chance. You'll become… my trainees."
The moment those words left his lips, the brothers roared with joy, shaking the entire tavern!
— "HURRAAAAH!!!"
Flexing their massive muscles, they drank even more, forcing Leon to drink with them!
— "Oh no…" Leon muttered, feeling his stomach churn with despair.
He struggled to escape the drinking mob.
— "Water… I need water…" he groaned, staggering through the tavern in search of anything that could save him from alcohol poisoning.
Suddenly, Tony appeared before him.
— "Here, Lord Leon! Two cups of water!"
With a loud thud, he placed two mugs filled with clear liquid on the table.
Leon, without hesitation, grabbed one and drank it all in one go.
The taste immediately told him this was not water.
His gaze dropped to the second mug.
Leon squinted, brought his finger close to the liquid, and activated a fire spell.
The liquid caught fire.
— "Why the hell does water burn?" Leon asked in a calm yet deadpan voice, staring at Tony.
Tony simply shrugged.
— "Well… you lit it on fire yourself, Lord Leon."
At that moment, Leon internally screamed:
"WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME?!"
