Chapter 330: Dante and Radeon
As all the different groups had their own violent encounters around the necropolis, Dante kept walking along the corrupted streets with Tanya and her cameraman following behind, taking footage of everything they could lay their eyes upon.
It had already been almost an hour since Dante fought Isidor, and now that he had two people with him, he stopped scouting from the air and walked along with them.
"Dirk, get a shot of that building there!" Tanya said to the cameraman, who kept recording everything they found.
"Do you guys have to record every single building? They all look pretty much the same…" Dante commented, raising an eyebrow as Tanya posed professionally in front of the camera.
"Of course we do. Not every scene will make it in the documentary, you know? When we get to editing, we'll delete the extra shots!" Tanya explained.
As Tanya and Dirk kept taking footage of their surroundings, Trinity spoke to Dante on his earpiece and revealed that she could only contact him out of all the other groups inside the necropolis.
"Hmmm? Why?" Dante pondered, as he wasn't familiar with the way a communication jammer worked.
["Honestly, I have no idea why you are the only one I can contact. I thought you might have a clue…"] Trinity replied, her voice hinting frustration.
Dante shrugged, utterly oblivious to the circumstances, but he still tried to think of a reason why his earpiece was still working.
"What about our group at home? Can you talk to them?" Dante asked.
["Well, yes…"] Trinity replied, cutting off her sentence.
"Okay… and?" Dante followed up, knowing that the hacker woman had more to say.
["They didn't tell me the details, but the only people at the Jade Palace right now are Lilith, Clara, and the swordmaster,"] Trinity explained, making Dante place a hand on his chin.
"Hmmm, if they left the home, it means that they could be in danger…" The warlock muttered to himself, but Trinity, who heard his whispering, replied by saying that Camille stated they would be fine.
"Alright, I'll believe you, even though I can't see you…" Dante said, turning his attention back to Tanya and Dirk.
Suddenly, he felt a strange sensation behind him, making him quickly turn around and raise his palm forward, believing that he was about to get attacked. However, all he saw was the necrotic wind flowing in the empty, corrupted streets.
Tanya, who noticed Dante's unease, stopped the scene and approached the warlock to ask what was happening, only to get shushed by him as he tried to detect the presence of someone nearby.
As Dante walked to the end of the block, he turned his gaze and spotted a tea shop wholly corrupted by death's ichor.
"In there…" Dante muttered, prompting Dirk to raise his camera over his shoulder and begin recording.
"A tea shop…?" Tanya pondered in confusion.
Noticing that the viscous death ichor had solidified around the shop's entrance, Dante pointed his hand at it and released a "Destro" spell, utterly removing a piece of the wall and leaving a gaping hole for him to enter.
The shop was adorned with different tea cup sets and tea bags on the shelves, utterly covered by death's ichor. Behind the counter, Dante could see the figure of someone sitting on the ground.
Dante extended his arm to the side to signal Tanya and Dirk to stay back, but the reporter couldn't hold herself back and followed closely behind the warlock.
When their view became clearer, Dante realized it was one of Netherius' Death Knights, who seemed to be out of energy while heavily breathing.
Radeon, the netherlord who fought against Megan, Lindsey, and Irina, had managed to escape the encounter after releasing a spell that created a sizeable explosion.
His body was completely made of bone fiber, the same way that the bone golems were created, and when Dante realized that Radeon was out of commission, he approached him with more confidence.
"Hmmm, the netherlord?" Dante pondered aloud, making the skeletal being raise his gaze with a hint of fear.
"Hellslayer… I-" Radeon spoke up, but the full sentence didn't come out of his mouth.
Without saying a word, Dante crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, maintaining his gaze on the netherlord.
'What's with the apologetic aura…? It's throwing me off a bit,' Dante thought.
Tanya and Dirk stayed silent during the exchange, but the cameraman was still recording everything.
"Hellslayer… I remember…" Radeon muttered, receiving no reaction from the warlock.
"What was your name again?" Dante asked, his tone turning more casual.
"Radeon…" he replied.
After hearing his name, Dante got closer to the Death Knight and crouched before him so that their heads were at the same level, expecting the netherlord to speak about his supposed memories.
Radeon was a successful wizard in the world of Terra. He had not only graduated from one of the most prestigious magic academies, but he was also a professor for some time.
Still, Radeon's obsession with wanting to learn more magic led him to idolize the wizard Wolfram, who had betrayed all of the mages to learn forbidden magic.
In his quest to learn new spells that were either forgotten in history or forbidden by the goddess, Radeon was eventually incarcerated by the Holy Knights, but the knowledge he had gained was still ingrained in his mind.
While Radeon kept deciphering the forbidden magic in his cell, he came to the conclusion that he would have to abandon his flesh in order to cast the most powerful spells.
However, the only way to do that was with the help of a necromancer, and a few days later, seemingly by pure chance, Netherius visited the wizard in his cell, offering him a deal.
Netherius would help Radeon abandon his flesh to become a full-fledged netherlord. In exchange, Radeon would have to serve the necromancer as a Death Knight.
Since Radeon was fated to be executed a few months from then, he didn't believe he had any other choice. Moreover, Netherius promised him that he would be able to continue his research as a Death Knight, so he agreed.
Unfortunately for Radeon, he had forgotten everything about that deal until his encounter with Megan's group.
