Chapter 159: First Encounter with Melusine
The scene that followed bore a striking resemblance to the Peach Blossom Spring that Lot had once read about.
After Lot and Morgan arrived at Leah's house, the surrounding Wind Clan fairies brought out an assortment of fruits and vegetables, arranging them plate after plate to welcome the two.
A mature-looking Wind Clan fairy woman approached.
Fairies had no concept of lifespan they were effectively ageless. Thus, even if this fairy had clearly lived for untold years, her maturity was only evident in her demeanor. In appearance, she looked like a sophisticated woman in her twenties.
Upon seeing her, Leah immediately stood up and addressed her as "Village Chief."
Only then did Lot and Morgan realize that this fairy was the village's leader.
The Village Chief studied Morgan, taking in her youthful attire, then glanced at Lot, who was completely encased in steel armor, as if he had no intention of revealing himself to outsiders. Her expression betrayed suspicion not just about their strength, but also their identities.
With a perfectly polite smile, she said to Morgan, "If not for you two today, our village might have lost one of its most adorable residents. I must properly thank you."
Hearing this, Leah puffed out her chest proudly.
Lot and Morgan, however, weren't the type to be swayed by mere pleasantries.
"Seems the Village Chief doesn't quite believe in our capabilities," Morgan remarked with a smile.
"O-Of course not!" The Village Chief's expression stiffened, as if she'd been caught in the act but was trying to cover it up.
To put it simply, she wanted them to prove themselves but wouldn't say it outright, instead masking it as concern.
Typical green-tea bitch.
Morgan was well-versed in dealing with such types.
But for now, to earn the village's trust, she had no choice but to put on a little show.
She stood up, lightly lifting her staff.
A soft incantation spilled from her lips.
A surge of dark purple energy manifested before shooting toward a distant mountain.
In the blink of an eye,
the dark purple orb reached the mountainside.
Morgan had made sure no one was there.
The moment the orb struck,
a dazzling explosion erupted.
Then,
a few seconds later,
the sound of the blast reached their ears.
A massive plume of dust rose from the mountainside visible not just to Lot and Morgan, but to every single fairy in the village.
A long time passed
before the dust finally settled.
When everyone looked again,
they saw a crater the size of the entire village gouged into the mountainside.
The sheer destructive force
left everyone present stunned.
Such power…
Terrifying.
The fairies thought to themselves.
The Village Chief's smile froze instantly. She had assumed this fairy's strength was, at best, comparable to her own. With the other fairies in the village backing her up, she hadn't been worried about these two causing trouble.
But now,
she realized a single attack from Morgan could wipe out the entire village.
And I had the nerve to test her?
I'm an absolute idiot.
Thankfully, she didn't have any ill intentions. If she had wanted to harm the village, none of us would've stood a chance.
This is terrifying.
Sweat beaded on the Village Chief's palms.
"Trembling in fear" would be the most fitting description for her right now.
This was Morgan's best method for handling green-tea types. Either you had to be a higher-level manipulator yourself, or you had to be so far beyond them that their tricks were meaningless.
A noble green-tea lady might play games with a minor aristocrat, but against a king?
There was no room for manipulation.
And that was exactly Morgan's position now.
But it wasn't just the fairies who were shocked even Lot, beneath his helmet, was stunned.
[Holy shit, when did my Morgan get this strong? I thought she was just support! How the hell did she become this powerful? Damn, if I don't step up my game, I'll really fall behind. I've got Joyeuse and Kavacha and Kundala if I still get overshadowed, that'd be pathetic.]
Hearing her husband's thoughts, Morgan swelled with pride.
Heh,
Did you forget? We practically established the entire kingdom of England. We became the rulers of the Celtic people in this era. Did you really think I'd be weak?
And it's not like I gained this power and never used it.
No, I've been honing it all along, mastering every bit of it.
This is the first time I've shown off in front of you. What do you think? Impressed?
I'll have you know this isn't even my full strength.
If we ever face a real enemy, you'll see even more.
Morgan mused to herself, even feeling a little excited at the thought of what she could do in a real fight.
The Village Chief's demeanor shifted instantly, like a fairy chameleon.
As for the masked Lot beside Morgan? She didn't even bother verifying his identity. If he traveled with a mage of this caliber, he couldn't possibly be weak.
Then,
with a fawning tone, she said to Morgan, "My apologies for doubting you."
"It's fine."
Morgan reminded herself that she was supposed to be playing the role of the fairies' savior. So, she replied with magnanimity:
"Still, as the Village Chief, it's only natural for you to be cautious. I understand."
"Ah, thank you for your kindness."
The Village Chief nodded.
Then, she turned to Leah. "I have matters to attend to. Leah, why don't you give our honored guests a proper tour of the village?"
"Mm!"
Leah agreed.
Once the Village Chief left, however, she didn't actually attend to any business.
Instead, she gathered her subordinates.
After setting up a soundproofing spell to prevent eavesdropping, she gave them strict orders:
"Report this incident to the Clan Leader."
She didn't fully believe Morgan's story.
And more importantly Morgan's power was far too extraordinary.
Were there wandering fairies?
Yes, and many of them.
But among them, how many were this strong?
Even the few exceptionally powerful ones
like Baobhan Sith were well-known, their appearances familiar to most fairies.
But these two, Morgan and Lot?
Unbelievably strong, yet completely unknown?
That was far too suspicious.
This matter had to be brought to the Clan Leader's attention.
They couldn't just let such individuals roam freely without caution.
"Whatever their reason for coming here, we must uncover their motives. And if they truly mean no harm, we still need the Clan Leader to secure their allegiance."
The Village Chief thought to herself.
Leah now looked at Morgan with a mix of awe and fear.
Earlier, she had agreed with the Village Chief's assessment these two were strong, but not that strong.
But after witnessing Morgan's attack, she couldn't help but feel reverence.
"So… where would you like to visit?"
Leah asked Morgan eagerly, her tone now dripping with sycophancy, almost like a textbook lackey.
"Just take us around casually," Morgan said offhandedly.
Then, she added, "By the way, are there any Earth Clan fairies here? If we're staying for a while, we'll need a place to live."
"You want to build a house?"
Leah's smile widened.
A house was good.
A permanent residence meant they were less likely to leave.
"Mm."
"Great! Aside from us Wind Clan and the humans, there are plenty of Earth Clan fairies here. If you want construction done, I'll take you to them right away."
Leah led the two toward the Earth Clan fairies in the village.
Meanwhile, not far from the fairy village,
a massive magical beast was split cleanly in half.
From within its bisected corpse,
a petite young girl stepped out.
Not a single drop of the beast's blood stained her.
She was pristine.
Even her sandaled feet were flawless,
enough to send foot fetishists into a frenzy.
This was Melusine.
After her encounter with Lancelot and their subsequent battle and farewell, she had set out to find Morgan the one who could explain her circumstances.
She had been taken in by the Wind Clan's leader, so she knew exactly where Morgan was. Initially, the Clan Leader had advised her to stay back, as the Fang Clan fairies were the main offensive force.
But Melusine had never been one to follow orders.
She was free.
Even the Wind Clan's leader could only suggest never command.
No one could tell her what to do.
And the Clan Leader knew this well.
Melusine repaid debts of gratitude without fail, so she trusted her completely.
This time, if Melusine wanted to see Morgan,
she would.
Alone, unmatched in strength,
she had no fear of danger.
No need for luggage or supplies
she simply set off.
After days of travel, she arrived near the village.
Along the way, she had encountered a few troublesome magical beasts.
Most beings human or fairy would either tame or kill such creatures.
Melusine had no patience for taming.
Nor did she have any use for them.
So, killing it was.
Though the beasts towered over her, they were no match for her strength.
With effortless grace,
she pinned them down and sliced them apart.
Once done, Melusine checked the time.
The sun was already dipping toward the west sunset approached.
"It's getting late. I should find a place to rest."
She left the beasts' corpses untouched.
They were of no value to her.
Right now, the village mattered more.
With light, unhurried steps, Melusine strolled into the settlement.
Along the way, she encountered many fairies.
"Lady Melusine!"
They all recognized her.
They knew her strength.
They knew how highly the Wind Clan's leader regarded her.
They greeted her respectfully.
Melusine acknowledged them with slight nods.
Then, up ahead, she spotted a group of fairies.
" Just five more minutes, and we'll reach the Earth Clan master's home " Leah was saying when she noticed Melusine standing not far ahead.
Her mouth fell open.
"Lady Melusine! What brings you here?"
Melusine remained indifferent to her reaction.
What caught her attention were the two figures beside Leah.
They seemed completely unfazed by her presence.
Well, one was hidden behind armor his expression unreadable.
But the other, the fairy(?), looked genuinely calm.
Wait…
Is she even a fairy?
Melusine studied the white-clad figure holding a staff, suspicion flickering in her mind.
As for Morgan, she hadn't known who Melusine was at first.
But the next second, she understood.
[The Fairy Knight Lancelot ah, so she's appeared too. But she doesn't know any of this yet. Right now, she goes by Melusine.]
After meeting the Fairy Knight Tristan (Baobhan Sith) and the Fairy Morgan, encountering the Fairy Knight Lancelot was no longer surprising.
