Mr. Billionaire's Criminal Obsession

Chapter 23: Forgotten Name

Ava stared up at him in a daze, almost as if every thought in her head screamed that he was probably losing his mind. Why would she ever betray him?

He was her only chance at survival… couldn't he tell with one look exactly how desperate she was?

She had come to him of her own will, but Xandro had taken her by force.

"I understand." She said quietly, trying to nod but his hand on her chin stiffened her.

"Good." Eitan murmured before standing up from his crouching position, Walking to his desk and leaning in front of it. "It's going to take a while for the contract to be drafted but once it is, I'm going to have to see you again so we can both sign it."

Ava jolted. "I can't come here again."

Eitan's brows furrowed. "Why not?"

She swallowed. "Because of my team…" She answered quietly. "I managed to come here this time without making any of them suspicious, but if I come to see you again, they might just ask me questions."

'And probably report me to Xandro too...'

She shivered at the thought. She wasn't mentally ready for things to escalate to that extent... she could barely handle herself.

Eitan thoughtfully placed a hand on his chin. "I see… so what do we do about that? Do you… want me to come to you?"

Ava flinched. His voice sounded disbelieving, like the idea of him coming to her was hard to understand, almost baffling, when she was the one in desperate need of his help.

"No… that would be demeaning of you." She told him. "I'll come to see you, but not here."

"So you want us to set a meeting place?" He asked with a raised brow.

Ava shook her head. "Not really."

Eitan's features darkened, his patience was starting to wear thin. "Then what exactly do you want?"

Ava who was still on her knees, thought for a moment before answering. "I don't want to participate in the next mission, so… I was thinking of a plan that would kill two birds with one stone."

Eitan folded his arms. Come to think of it, she hadn't told him how exactly they were planning to sneak into his apartment to steal the document.

"You haven't even told me how your group plans to carry out that so-called mission in the first place. How am I supposed to go along with your plan?"

Ava stiffened. "We haven't come up with a strategy yet. We were planning to do it the moment we knew where the document was."

"Alright." Eitan nodded. "So we'll have to meet for you to sign the contract and for me to know the details of the plan, though I don't think meeting for the plan will be necessary… but… what exactly do you want from me?"

Ava hesitated for a long time as she fidgeted with the edge of her shirt. "I… want you to cause an accident."

Eitan's brows furrowed. "An accident?"

"Yes… I… want you to hit me with your car." Ava whispered with her eyes tightly shut.

Eitan stared at her, confusion on his face. For a moment he said nothing, his expression like that of a statue as if she had just said the wildest thing he had ever heard.

"So you want to die, after all?" He wondered. "Then why did you come to me for protection?"

"I don't want to die!" Ava snapped. "It's just the only way I can think of to avoid participating in the mission."

Eitan adjusted his posture at the table. "Don't you think that's a little too dangerous? Can't you think of something else?"

Ava shook her head slowly. "There's no other excuse I can give to get out of it. This is my only way."

'She's... a little too desperate... ' Eitan mused. 'I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing...'

"I understand." He said. "But we have to plan this thoroughly… or I might just end your life by mistake."

A shiver ran down Ava's spine. 'He's not going to do that on purpose, is he?'

She stopped herself from that train of thought. Even if they hadn't signed a contract yet, he didn't seem like someone who would go back on his word. He had already said he would take her in as his wife.

She took a deep breath. "The moment I leave this place, I'll be meeting with the rest of the team tomorrow evening to plan a strategy around what I've figured out. I'll tell you the exact time I'll be leaving, so if–if you could wait for me in your car until then…"

Eitan tilted his head at her suggestion and she paused, unsure if he was going to refuse it.

"If that's the case, why can't I just send someone in my place?" Eitan asked as if in deep thought.

Ava's eyes widened. "Pl–please don't do that! I want you to do it yourself."

If it was him, she was sure he would be able to execute the plan perfectly, he looked reliable. But if it were anyone else, the person just might run her over for real.

Although he was saying it, she doubted he would want to leave loose ends by assigning any other person to this task.

And true to her thoughts, Eitan wanted to make bring her into his life as cleanly and as discreetly as possible, without making the people around him suspicious.

He tore a small piece of paper from the back of a notebook lying on his desk and scribbled something inside it before handing it to her.

"Don't call, message this number instead tomorrow. I'll be expecting it." He said sternly. "No funny business, Ava. If there is, then you'll know exactly what I'm capable of."

Ava nodded intensely as she took the paper from him, taking a short glance at it. She pressed her lips together. "Does that mean I'm free to go now?"

Eitan nodded. "But first," he added. "I would like to know your last name."

Ava's eyes widened, then she lowered her head and muttered, "I… don't have one."

"What...?"

"I don't think I have a last name." Ava said more clearly. "It's been so long ago that I can't remember…"

"I see…" Eitan responded. "I'll just have to add a new one for you then… before you take mine at least, since you need some sort of identification."

Ava was taken aback, then a small smile formed on her lips, and she whispered. "Thank you…"
