Multiverse: Why does the world show a health bar? !

Chapter 281: Chapter 278: Fantasy

Early the next morning, Li Mo woke up early and used a food review app on his phone to find a highly-rated ramen shop for breakfast.

As a demon, he didn't need to eat to survive. The human standard of needing water every three days and food every seven didn't apply to him. With his magical energy, he could sustain himself indefinitely. This wasn't a power granted by the "Hakutora Bloodline," but rather by his spiritual foundation.

A spiritual foundation, something typically possessed by Servants, allowed them to survive solely on magical energy. Eating was just one way to replenish that energy. For Li Mo, his magical energy was nearly limitless. Thanks to the abilities granted by his third tail, he could refine life force and the world's "Mana" to sustain himself.

In extreme cases, he could even tap into his spiritual foundation to survive. But... when would he ever find himself in such a dire situation?

After breakfast, he hopped onto his beloved bicycle, a brand-new purchase. Li Mo was its first owner, and he quickly got the hang of it, effortlessly parking it in the bicycle shed at Soubu High. From there, it was a short walk to the school.

As he approached the familiar entrance of Soubu High, Li Mo suddenly realized he had forgotten about his dear neighbor, desk mate, and club president, Yukinoshita Yukino.

Not long ago, they used to walk to school together.

Sigh, this couldn't be his fault. Spending too much time in other worlds made it easy to forget things.

"Li Mo-kun, Li Mo, member of the Service Club. Could you please tell me what the consequences of breaking a promise are?"

"*Hontōni sumimasen!* (I'm really sorry!)"

Hearing that unique, slightly cold voice behind him, Li Mo didn't even need to fully activate his senses to know who it was. That voice was too distinctive.

Just like Shinobu's.

So, without hesitation, he turned around and bowed deeply in apology.

In Japan, was there anything more sincere than a bow and an apology?

"You, you..." Yukinoshita Yukino was momentarily thrown off by this move.

Was Li Mo's voice a bit off? And the speed of his bow? Wasn't he Chinese? How could he be so skilled at this?

Was something not quite right?

"Yukinoshita-san, why are you just standing there? I've already apologized. What more do you want from me? At this point, you should just say it's fine, right?"

"I refuse."

Hmm, that snarky tone was definitely right. The earlier feeling must have been wrong.

"Sorry, but if apologies were enough, wouldn't the police be out of a job?"

"But don't politicians on TV just bow and then it's over? Some even get to keep their jobs."

Yukinoshita Yukino: "Are you a politician?"

"But I can learn."

The matter was settled. The issue of Li Mo not waiting for his neighbor and heading to school alone was put to rest.

The two walked to the classroom. Unsurprisingly, they were the first students to arrive. To be more precise, no one in the entire school building had arrived earlier than them.

The girl sat at her desk and began her morning reading.

Having studied abroad during middle school, Yukinoshita Yukino had fluent and elegant English pronunciation. Whether it was American or British English, Li Mo couldn't tell.

Sitting behind her, Li Mo admired the studious beauty of the girl as she practiced her pronunciation.

Then he shifted slightly, changing his view from her back to her front.

"What are you doing?"

The girl stopped her studies immediately and turned to question the hyperactive guy.

She felt his gaze was... somewhat subtly unsettling.

"Hmm... admiring a beautiful view? Wait, Miss Yukinoshita, why are you pulling out your phone?" Li Mo asked.

"Being alone in a room with Li Mo-kun, it's only natural to be prepared."

"You're already treating me as a potential threat?!"

Li Mo's skilled banter made the girl put her phone away.

She was just putting on a show.

In truth, both male members of the Service Club were experts at risk management. The only difference was that one was good at smooth-talking, while the other excelled at snarky remarks.

Wait, was there even a difference?

"By the way, Miss Yukinoshita, your voice is really unique. Have you ever considered becoming an idol?"

"Soubu High isn't on the verge of shutting down, so there's no need for me to become an idol to save it. Besides, even if Soubu High were to close, my only option would be to transfer to another school."

In recent years, Japan had shut down quite a few schools. Yukinoshita Yukino had heard of students forming idol groups to attract new students and save their beloved schools.

But she would never do such a thing.

"Then what about becoming a singer?"

"No."

"Ah, what a shame. Your voice is so distinctive, it's really similar to someone I know. It's like you were both voiced by the same voice actor."

"Hmm?" Yukinoshita Yukino caught the key point. "Li Mo-kun, are you expressing your admiration for my voice?"

"I really do know someone like that," Li Mo said with a straight face. "Wait, I'll show you proof."

Should she believe him or not?

The question lingered in her mind as Yukinoshita Yukino asked, "Can you really provide evidence, Li-kun?"

"Of course, just look."

Yukinoshita's eyes fell on the phone screen Li Mo held up. It displayed a Wikipedia page for an anime character.

I knew it...

"Is this your 'friend,' dear Li-san?"

"Of course. Allow me to introduce my girlfriend, Kochō Shinobu." Li Mo, with his back to the phone, quickly navigated to a video and played it. "Listen to her voice. Doesn't it sound like yours?"

As the video played, Yukinoshita Yukino had to admit that the character's voice was indeed similar to hers. There was a particular "raspiness" to it.

Yukinoshita Yukino said, "Li-kun, anime characters can speak because someone voices them. Even if the voices are similar, it's the voice actor who resembles me, not the character.

And secondly... you said she's your girlfriend?"

Then, Yukinoshita Yukino looked at Li Mo with pity in her eyes.

"Yeah," Li Mo nodded earnestly. "Even though she's in another world, the fact remains."

"Just one night, and your condition has worsened to this extent? I know you're an otaku, but fantasizing about an anime character as your girlfriend? I see..."

Yukinoshita Yukino pulled out her phone.

"Are you calling the police? But the police won't handle something like this," Li Mo said.

Their little argument definitely wasn't within the police's jurisdiction.

"I'm going to tell the teacher. I'll let her know your condition has gotten worse."

Yukinoshita Yukino said, "How could anyone genuinely believe an anime character is their girlfriend?"

"Miss Yukinoshita, you owe all otakus an apology!"
