"How are the results, Doctor?" 

In a certain hospital in District 7, one would expect a large number of patients, but strangely, there was no shortage of beds. 

Li Mo inquired of Heaven Canceller. 

"Her fingers are suffering from side effects caused by ability adjustments. According to the patient, she's a Level 4 esper with destructive power comparable to a Level 5. I suspect she underwent specialized algorithm adjustments, which caused her brain to lose effective control over her hands." 

Heaven Canceller lived up to his reputation. There were very few illnesses that could stump him. In less than an hour, he had figured out Maidono Hoshimi's condition. 

"Can it be adjusted?" 

"It will take some time. The patient also seems to have some psychological issues. Keep an eye on her." 

"Got it." 

Heaven Canceller didn't ask about the girl's identity or why Li Mo had returned. In his eyes, there were only patients. 

This hospital was like a safe zone, a neutral area. The board members all knew about the ambiguous relationship between the doctor and the Board Chairman. They might not show the doctor respect, but none of them dared to attack this place. 

After seeing the doctor off, Li Mo took out his phone and answered a call. "What's the matter, Kihara Yuiitsu?" 

"Do you remember our cooperation?" Kihara Yuiitsu's voice came through the phone. 

"I already gave you an arm. Isn't the data from that enough?" 

After learning that Li Mo was a supernatural being, Kihara Yuiitsu had developed a strong interest in his body. Li Mo, who had entered the board with high-profile actions and later pushed for dark side reforms, urgently needed support. Thus, he struck a deal with her. 

Kihara Yuiitsu had influence over Yakumi Hisako, a board member. She claimed Yakumi Hisako was her patron, but in Li Mo's eyes, Yakumi Hisako was nothing more than Kihara Yuiitsu's puppet. 

Regardless of their relationship, Kihara Yuiitsu represented a board member. The price for her support was one of Li Mo's arms. Originally, she had only asked for DNA and various tests, but Li Mo had simply handed over an entire arm. 

Thanks to 「Pseudo-Immortality,」 Li Mo no longer cherished his body as he once did. 

"I'd prefer it if you personally participated in the experiments." 

"No, thank you. Even my brainstem isn't with you every moment, is it?" 

"Then… what about Yakumi Hisako? Don't forget what you promised her."

Li Mo found a secluded corner and casually cast a spell, creating a bounded field to ensure his conversation with Kihara Yuiitsu wouldn't be overheard. 

"Yes, she's dead serious. For that, Yakumi Hisako is willing to pay any price." 

"I might have to deal with something else first." 

"Fine." 

Kihara Yuiitsu hung up the phone. 

Her decisiveness was unusual, so much so that it made Li Mo frown. Her thirst for knowledge about his body was almost obsessive, like a yandere. It wouldn't be surprising if he woke up one day to find her standing over him with a scalpel. 

She had harassed him several times before, but this time she didn't… 

Shaking off the thought, Li Mo entered Maidono Hoshimi's hospital room. 

The girl had changed into a hospital gown and was sitting by the window, staring at the scenery outside, her expression blank as if lost in thought. 

"Want some fruit?" 

"Board Member." 

"It seems you're doing better? According to the doctor, there's still hope for your hands. They should recover in time." 

Maidono Hoshimi said, "Thank you, sir, for giving me the chance to use chopsticks again." 

"Not being able to use chopsticks… did it bother you that much?" 

"Yes. Ever since the ability experiment, only my index fingers were functional. I couldn't even use chopsticks properly. Eating became a challenge, and it made me uncomfortable whenever I ate with friends. It wasn't that they mocked me, but I just couldn't get over it. It… hurt." 

The reason Maidono Hoshimi had turned to the dark side was that she felt out of place in normal life. Watching others use chopsticks with ease while she struggled created a sense of alienation that made her want to escape. 

She had joined the dark side, where she didn't have to worry about her hands. 

Li Mo said, "From now on, focus on being a student. Now, tell me about the board member behind your actions." 

Only another board member could oppose a board member. 

The political environment of Academy City dictated this. Li Mo's killing of Shiokishi was a special case, akin to an external invasion like the previous attack by the former #1. Now, the external enemy had become a board member.

The strange thought faded as Maidono Hoshimi began her account. The girl revealed the mastermind behind the recent attacks. 

A member of the Academy City Board of Directors—Neoka Norito. 

"So it's him. He's the most opposed to my plans among the board members. I guess the others are using him as a test subject?" Li Mo commented. 

Where there were people, there were conflicts, and the board members were no exception. As individuals wielding power, their disputes over interests were far more intense than those of ordinary people. 

When Li Mo decided to push for dark side reforms, he knew it would create friction with other board members. But the current situation was special. Academy City was at war with Russia, and external factors were consuming much of the board members' attention. Additionally, after Shiokishi's death, the interests tied to his weapons trade had been redistributed by Li Mo. All these factors combined to create a tense undercurrent. 

Neoka Norito had become the scapegoat. As a board member appointed by Aleister, targeting Li Mo required considering the Board Chairman's stance. By pushing for dark side reforms immediately after taking office, Li Mo had made others wonder if this was Aleister's own plan. 

Without understanding this, they couldn't act against Li Mo—especially since his actions hadn't yet touched their core interests. 

—Neoka Norito's core interest lay in the dark side, and Li Mo's plans directly threatened that. 

"How long has it been since Shiokishi died, and Neoka Norito is already treating the dark side as his personal domain? Having a Level 5 on his side must have boosted his confidence." 

Maidono Hoshimi was a Level 4, but due to the ability experiments, she had destructive power comparable to a Level 5. Of course, after Heaven Canceller's treatment, she might return to being an ordinary Level 4. 

Li Mo didn't care much. In the end, Level 5 espers were just that—except for Accelerator. 

Leaving the hospital, Li Mo waited for a phone call. Maidono Hoshimi's attack had exposed Neoka Norito's hand. Having built his own faction in just over ten days, Li Mo didn't need to handle everything personally.

Li Mo waited for the call. 

But when Musujime Awaki's call came through, it wasn't a signal of success—it was a cry for help. 

"Sir Li Mo, we've encountered a Level 5." 

"Which one?" 

"Ayame says it's Kakine Teitoku."
