Chapter 381: Chapter 377: Stigmata
Aleister had left the windowless building.
The method of his departure was something Li Mo couldn't comprehend. It seemed like spatial movement, yet it also felt as if space itself twisted with his every step.
Li Mo's knowledge reserves were insufficient to understand Aleister's methods.
"What's wrong? Shocked?" Aiwass said, "Although Aleister always fails, he is indeed the greatest magician of modern times, without equal. He could have become a Magic God, but he refused."
Li Mo replied, "I had expectations for Aleister's power. But no amount of written information can compare to seeing it in person. The way he left is something I can't grasp, and it's something I'll need to study for years. But what I'm more concerned about is the feeling he gave off."
He paused, as if savoring that momentary sensation, then continued, "The aura around him was too chaotic, as if the entire biosphere had been compressed into one being. Can he still be considered human?"
"Why wouldn't he be considered human? Aleister has simply gathered all his 'ifs' into one. The world is always full of diversity. For example, the possibility of Aleister being a woman, a dinosaur, a sea monster, or an Aleister who never became a magician... So many possibilities, like a stew where anything can be thrown in, as long as it's all Aleister."
The Crowley Hazard.
Li Mo hadn't expected to recall the disaster that had struck England. He could feel it. Over a billion possibilities, all constrained into one. The being known as Aleister was a true monster.
Just the sheer scale of it was terrifying. The weight of his own spiritual foundation was barely a few tons.
"Actually, you've got quite a mix of things in you too. Human, a Wendigo-like cannibalistic monster, a youkai, an angel... And of course, the most important, the essence of an evil god," Aiwass said, seeing through Li Mo's nature.
Li Mo had four tails, each imbued with different mysteries.
From a mystical perspective, he was a chimera—both everything and nothing.
"The essence of an evil god can also be understood as the descent of the Holy Son," Li Mo quipped. "At this very moment, the Star of Bethlehem hangs high in the sky. As someone who bears the sins of the world, can't I be Jesus?"
Magic is the art of deception, and its essence lies in "approximation."
Aiwass chuckled, "You can try."
"Don't ask. I've already tried," Li Mo replied.
He had indeed tried. Being akin to the Holy Son in this world's context meant becoming a Saint, like Kanzaki Kaori. He even felt the stigmata appearing on his abdomen—the marks of the Holy Son's crucifixion.
During his time in this building, Li Mo had experimented with this. What started as a trial unexpectedly succeeded, and he continued with it. The worst that could happen was his body exploding.
For Li Mo, who possessed "Pseudo-Immortality," having his body explode wasn't an unacceptable outcome.
"A man-made Saint. You're the first."
"Magicians who want to become Saints lack the ability, and those who have the ability disdain the Saint's physique," Li Mo said self-deprecatingly. "Only a hodgepodge like me would try something like this."
Aiwass said, "Drawing from other systems and blending different elements isn't something to be ashamed of. What's even more commendable is that you've forged your own path."
Based on the methods of Koyanskaya, Li Mo devoured the symbols of others to strengthen his spiritual foundation. Step by step, he grew and transformed, eventually becoming a Beast of Humanity.
But the things he absorbed were too varied, and the knowledge he gained was vast. Li Mo's vision wasn't limited to becoming a Beast of Humanity. How strong was the spiritual foundation of a Beast of Humanity compared to a Magic God?
Obtaining the 103,000 Grimoires could make one a Magic God.
Li Mo didn't plan to become a Magic God, nor did he aspire to be a monster like Aleister. But becoming someone like Accelerator, who had crossed the abyss, was still within reach, wasn't it?
"Do you remember what I told you last time? Your goal shouldn't be Angra Mainyu from Zoroastrian mythology, but something more abstract. For example, the trials God gives to humanity," Aiwass said.
Li Mo replied, "I already have an idea. Thanks for the advice, Aiwass. I didn't know you were such a mentor."
Accelerator's journey to Russia was entirely guided by Aiwass. Whether this was Aleister's intention or Aiwass's own idea remained unknown.
Aiwass had no intention of revealing the answer to Li Mo.
The appearance of the stigmata meant Li Mo had become a Saint. By aligning himself with the "Crucified Son," he gained a portion of that power, thus achieving a breakthrough. After this breakthrough, Li Mo embedded the mystical nature of the stigmata into his fourth tail.
This was an unexpected boon. The Saint's physique elevated Li Mo's long-stagnant body to a new level. But now, Li Mo's strength relied entirely on the abilities within his tails. The "Pseudo-Immortality" of the third tail was his final safeguard.
The exchange between "man" and "angel" came to an end as Aleister reappeared in the tower.
"Seven hundred seconds," Aiwass said. "Aleister's wavelength was active in the outside world for exactly seven hundred seconds."
Seven hundred seconds was a short time, totaling just over ten minutes. Yet, in that brief span, Aleister had traveled from Academy City to the Russian Far East and back, effortlessly defeating Fiamma of the Right along the way.
It was entirely normal for Aleister to accomplish such feats.
Li Mo picked up his phone and dialed a number. On the other end was Musujime Awaki, the former "Guide" who had become something like Li Mo's secretary.
"Begin the operation."
It wasn't yet night, but that no longer mattered.
The Star of Bethlehem had fallen, Fiamma of the Right had been defeated, and the war was over.
All that remained was to wait for the Russian Orthodox Archbishop's declaration of the war's end.
But now was also acceptable.
Li Mo put down his phone. He could imagine Musujime Awaki and the others mobilizing, with multiple Level 4 Espers taking action. Dealing with the remnants left in Academy City would be more than enough. Judgment and Anti-Skill would watch from the sidelines, not intervening.
More importantly, Kakine Teitoku wasn't part of the Dark Side. Currently, there were no Level 5 Espers in Academy City's Dark Side. The only concern was the elite forces sent to Russia.
Hopefully, Accelerator and Hamazura Shiage would kill them all.
"How do you plan to deal with Accelerator?"
"It doesn't matter," Li Mo said. "Give him whatever he wants. Even if the Dark Side dissolves, it's fine. But..."
"As long as the Dark Side continues to exist, they must follow my rules. There are some things they shouldn't do."
Li Mo, the rule-maker, spoke thus.
