Chapter 89: [89] The Goddess of Greece
In a secluded villa deep within the Alps, two individuals—each harboring deadly intentions—slept entwined in an uneasy embrace.
The weather was pleasant today. The snowstorm from the night before had ceased, and a faint warmth from the morning sun streamed through the window, bringing a touch of comfort to the frigid mountain retreat.
The bedsheets were slightly disheveled. Roy, clad in pajamas and covered by a thin blanket, lay on his side, breathing softly into the pillow. The bedding—both sheets and covers—had been freshly delivered by a Swiss magical association at Roy's request. While he could tolerate using secondhand furniture, he absolutely refused to sleep on linens previously used by others, especially since this had once been the residence of that old man, Voban.
In Roy's arms, the loli-sized Athena wore that oddly colored sweater of hers, tightly pressed against him. The force of his embrace was so strong that even the goddess's brows twitched slightly in discomfort.
Athena lay flat on the pillow, staring blankly at the ceiling, her amber eyes calm and unreadable. Sharing a bed with a man—a Campione, no less—didn't faze her in the slightest. Though she was renowned as a virgin goddess in Greek mythology, the chaotic nature of those legends meant she was hardly ignorant of matters between men and women.
After all, it's just a few liberties taken. Nothing more has happened. For a man destined to die, I should grant him some leniency.
So Athena mused.
Slap—
With a swift motion, Athena smacked Roy's hand away—the same hand that had somehow found its way onto her bare, silken leg.
The crisp voice finally woke Roy. He opened his eyes to meet Athena's calm, indifferent gaze and withdrew his hand with an awkward chuckle, "...Sorry, that was unavoidable. Your body is so soft and cuddly—it was just too comfortable to hold."
Judging by Roy's expression, he had completely treated Athena as nothing more than a warm cuddle pillow for the night.
Athena sat up on the bed, glancing out the window before speaking in a haughty, icy tone, "...It matters not. This one can forgive your insolence, Roy Crowley. Now that the second day has come, as per our promise and agreement, you must hand over the Gorgon Stone to this one. Then, this one shall slay you here and send you into the underworld~."
"No rush, Goddess Athena! Let's save the bloodshed for after breakfast."
Roy got out of bed and, without concern for Athena's presence, changed out of his pajamas into casual clothes.
Yesterday had merely been a whim. Athena's current appearance suggested she was barely over ten years old. In Roy's original world, attempting to seduce a girl that young would have been a crime. But here was different—he was a Demon King who roamed the earth freely, beyond the reach of any law. Athena, too, was a goddess who had lived for millennia, making her the very definition of a "legal loli."
Given the opportunity, he was determined to indulge in the desires he had once suppressed. Holding a little loli as he slept—her small, soft body truly was incredibly comfortable—had at least given him excellent sleep quality. And this loli happened to be a bona fide goddess.
That was all there was to it. Roy was simply yielding to the ambitions and desires befitting a Demon King.
He glanced at Athena, noticing no trace of drowsiness in her clear eyes, and asked curiously, "...Did you not sleep last night?"
"This one is a Heretic God, the Queen who governs darkness. Night is when this one is most active. Have you ever seen an owl sleep at night?"
Athena had no qualms about revealing her multiple identities to Roy, knowing full well that his stolen Wisdom of Solomon mystic eyes would uncover such secrets regardless. It was better to speak openly.
"This one should be the one questioning you. To dare fall into deep sleep beside the Goddess Athena—were you not afraid this one might have a sudden inspiration and send you to the underworld?"
Athena sat on the sofa, bending her flawless legs as she slowly pulled on a pair of blue stockings. Her legs were delicate, slender, and almost translucent.
Roy admired the alluring sight of the loli goddess dressing and chuckled lightly, "...Of course I was afraid. That's why I took precautions before sleeping. Even if you, Goddess, attempted a cunning assassination with your wisdom, I would have reacted in time."
"This one appreciates your honesty."
Seeing that Roy spoke no lies, Athena curled her lips into an elegant smile. Once her stockings were on, she hopped off the sofa and urged him, "...Then hurry. This one can hardly wait to slay you and witness the despair in your eyes before death."
"Likewise, I too wish to witness the pain and despair of the goddess when she is defeated by me. In mythology, when the Olympian gods fled in terror from Typhon, only Zeus and Athena fearlessly fought against him. The heroic bearing of that goddess of war makes my blood boil just thinking about it!"
Roy and Athena exchanged words dripping with murderous intent, yet they walked together to the door and opened it.
The two knights Erica and Liliana had been waiting at the entrance for some time. The sharp-eyed girls first glared at Athena behind Roy before anxiously turning to him with concern: "...Lord Roy, are you alright?"
"What could possibly be wrong? To share a bed with the most renowned goddess of Greek mythology—this honor wasn't even achieved by any god in the myths. Lily, is breakfast ready?"
Roy spoke casually, his right hand in his pocket as he walked past the two knight maidens toward the dining room.
"...It's been prepared according to your usual requirements."
Liliana followed closely behind Roy as she answered.
"It must be difficult having a powerful knight like you doing maid's work. My apologies, Lily."
"Serving Lord Roy is my greatest honor. Please don't say such things again."
The easily flustered silver-haired girl lowered her head, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush.
"After breakfast, both Lily and Erica will wait here for me. If I defeat Athena, I'll return victorious. If I'm defeated, then you two must leave immediately and return to Italy."
Roy's words startled Erica and Liliana, who hurriedly protested: "...Lord Roy, as your knights, we should fight alongside you on the battlefield! A King should never be harmed before his knights fall—that would be our greatest failure!"
"Your loyalty moves me, but you cannot intervene in battles against Heretic Gods. Though I may sometimes act like a willful tyrant, I would never send my loyal subordinates to their deaths. Obey my command, Erica Blandelli and Liliana Kranjcar—stay here and go nowhere until I return victorious!"
Roy stopped and turned around, speaking to the two girls with a tone both gentle and stern.
Liliana flushed red, still wanting to argue, but Erica stopped her.
Though Roy's words were harsh, he spoke the truth—in battles between Campiones and Heretic Gods, magicians and knights could contribute little. If a Campione needed magicians and knights to help him achieve victory, it would only prove his incompetence.
A truly powerful Campione could face the gods alone without defeat!
"Worry not, Roy Crowley. This goddess shall grant you the honor you deserve. Even when I slay you, I shall not harm your attendants—unless they dare oppose me."
Athena curled her lips into the smile of a victorious goddess.
As the deity who presided over war and wisdom, she believed defeat was impossible.
