Chapter 16: Shadow Clone Jutsu

Dragging Longquan behind him as he walked down the street, Yue noticed people pointing and whispering about him. He felt slightly irritated.

Ever since Minato had become Hokage, their family had become widely known throughout the village. After all, their appearances made them easy to recognize.

Especially Yue—his red hair and the sword he carried daily made even small children aware that he was the Fourth Hokage's son.

Lowering his head, he quickened his pace. He couldn't stand the way the villagers gossiped, their nosy nature rubbing him the wrong way.

Only when he reached the foot of the back mountain, where there were fewer people, did the discomfort in his heart begin to fade.

Upon arriving at his destination, Yue unrolled the scroll on the Shadow Clone Jutsu. He wanted to understand what Minato meant when he said this technique was particularly suited for him.

It didn't take long for Yue to grasp the principle behind the jutsu. The hand seal was especially simple—just a single seal, making it incredibly convenient.

Poof!

With no suspense, he mastered it on his first try.

Looking at the clone identical to himself standing before him, Yue reached out and pinched its face—it felt exactly like a real person.

Regular Clone Jutsu was only used for deception. A ninja with sharp observation skills or a dojutsu could easily see through it, and since it wasn't a physical entity, it had no offensive capabilities.

According to the scroll Minato had given him, Shadow Clones were solid and capable of attacking.

The downside, however, was that they consumed a great deal of chakra. Each clone evenly split the user's existing chakra.

But this wasn't much of an issue for Yue—his chakra reserves were massive, and his recovery speed was also far beyond normal.

Compared to Itachi, Yue's chakra was about thirty times greater, and his recovery speed was around fifteen times faster.

After pondering for a moment, Yue raised his hand and delivered a solid slap to his clone.

Poof!

The clone instantly dispersed into smoke.

"It can't even withstand that level of attack…"

Yue was somewhat disappointed. If the clone was this fragile, then the technique wouldn't be all that useful.

But then, he suddenly froze. Turning his head, he looked behind him.

"There really is a bird there… Did my clone see it and relay that information back to me?"

When the clone had disappeared, a brief image surfaced in Yue's mind—a bird perched on a tree behind him.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

A puff of smoke later, another identical clone stood before him.

"Go into the forest, carve something into a tree, and then dispel yourself."

The clone nodded, leaping twice before vanishing into the dense woods.

Yue waited for a moment. Soon, information from the clone's perspective surfaced in his mind.

"So it really does send memories back. I need to confirm this further."

Walking in the direction where the clone had disappeared, Yue approached a large tree. On its trunk, he found a carved 凤 (Phoenix) character.

"When I made the clone, I was thinking of the character 龙 (Dragon). Does that mean it has its own thoughts…?"

Yue couldn't help but admire the Second Hokage—to have invented such a remarkable jutsu, he was a true genius.

"This really is incredible… Staying humble and always learning is an unchanging truth."

After carefully considering how to utilize this jutsu, Yue created another clone and handed it the second scroll Minato had given him.

He didn't give any instructions, and the clone, without asking a single question, took the scroll and moved to another corner of the training ground.

With that settled, Yue shifted his focus back to training, unsheathing Longquan and practicing his sword techniques.

About five minutes later, Yue's body suddenly twitched. He nearly dropped his sword, and at the same time, new knowledge surfaced in his mind—the method to manipulate Lightning Release chakra.

"So it dispersed because it couldn't handle the numbness caused by the lightning?"

Hurrying to the location where the clone had been training, Yue found only the opened scroll lying quietly on the ground—nothing else.

"If the clone is that fragile, then using it for Lightning Release training is impossible. But for another jutsu, it might work."

Yue wanted to confirm whether he could directly receive a clone's training results. So, he created another shadow clone and instructed it to train in a Wind Release jutsu.

This was a jutsu Yue had spent over half a month calculating—a wind barrier technique.

While the shinobi world already had defensive wind jutsu, Yue's version was different.

His idea was to create a wind wall by generating high-speed circulating airflow within a confined space. Producing high-speed airflow was simple for him, but the real challenge was stabilizing the pressure differences caused by that motion.

Still, Yue had a plan. He would have the clone work on refining the jutsu—not only to develop it but also to confirm the usefulness of shadow clones.

Once the clone left, Yue didn't resume sword training. Instead, he focused on Lightning Release chakra manipulation.

Minato's concerns were indeed valid. Within just a few minutes, Yue was already shocked numb by his own jutsu. He could even smell something burning—his eyebrows had started to curl up.

After resting for a bit, he carefully checked his body. Other than feeling terrible, there was no real damage. In fact, he noticed that the lightning's stimulation excited his body's cells.

And so, Yue entered self-torture mode. Sitting cross-legged, he continuously channeled chakra, converting it into Lightning Release and letting it flow across his body.

At first, he could only endure for five minutes before needing a break. But three hours later, he could withstand nearly thirty minutes. His resistance to electricity was steadily increasing.

Just as he was enduring another wave of shocks, the crackling lightning around his body suddenly vanished. Yue grimaced, pressing a hand to his forehead as a surge of memories flooded his mind.

Along with the memories came an overwhelming fatigue—Yue felt like needles were stabbing into his brain.

It took two full minutes for the pain to subside. He was genuinely shaken.

"I can't be this reckless in the future… I keep forgetting—I'm only four years old."

Now, he finally understood what Minato meant by dangerous. Shadow Clone Jutsu didn't just transfer memories and training experience—it also relayed the pain and exhaustion.

If he wasn't careful, he could literally die from it.

"…But judging from the clone's feedback, the wind wall technique was successfully completed."

After resting for a few minutes to recover some chakra, Yue prepared to test the wind wall.

"Wind Release: Wind Wall!"

Before him, a visible wind barrier formed—a two-meter square, ten-centimeter thick wall of swirling air. Although the currents inside moved at extreme speeds, Yue, standing nearby, wasn't affected by any airflow.

Gripping Longquan, Yue thrust his sword at the wind wall.

The instant the blade touched the barrier, a powerful force repelled it. Yue immediately let go, and Longquan was flung into the air.

According to his idea, the wind wall was both offensive and defensive. Eventually, he wanted to expand it into a spherical barrier around himself or even enlarge it to trap enemies inside a violent storm.

The potential for development was enormous.

As for Shadow Clone Jutsu—it was an unbelievable discovery. Learning, experimenting, training, scouting, baiting— the applications were limitless.

Glancing at the sky, Yue figured it was time to head home. He retrieved Longquan, sheathed it, and started walking back.

From his relaxed posture, it was clear—today had been a very good day.
