Chapter 1: The Perfect Human
"Where are we going?", Kyle asks. "Why, isn't it obvious, my dumb little idiot loser? We're meeting up with some people. Don't worry. I'll protect you, since you're such a baby." I laugh, provoking a reaction. Unfortunately, he doesn't even retort back. Upset that im not having any fun making fun of this kid, I just continue walking, until arriving at a large building. While in front of the large building, I realize the danger im in. Excitement shoots through my entire body "Kyle. Stay outside. We're gonna meet some really crazy people, and I want you to be safe." Kyle pushes past me, looking back. "If we meet these people, then I wanna be right by your side." It's strange. It's only been a day since we met, yet he already sees me as some kind of older brother? "Ok, let's go in together, ya goof." I say, laughing at him on the inside. As we walk in, in contrast to the beautiful outside of New America, this place is dark and damp. "Where are we?" Sighing, I decide to answer. "This is just the building to enter the real area we need to be. I can teleport right through, but the people we're meeting today won't be too thrilled if I just show up." Leaving the building, we're met with the awful area. The stench is overwhelming. Trash piles up on the floor, while robot A.I.s roam around. People on hard drugs roaming around, sick and in need, others using rayguns to rob people at gunpoint
"Welcome... to the slums of New America!"
"What kind of place is this?" Kyle asks, seemingly unaware of the trouble we're in. "We're in the worst part of New America. Years ago, they developed A.I., not just AI, but general intelligence. The robots became sentient & an uprising went out. The New American Military spent all of its effort to kill every last robot in the city, but some of them survived and set up a bunkerin these very slums. They're so strong, and have such a tight stronghold that its nearly impossible for the military to enter this area. They have their own government, and military officials are killed at the door, so they dont even bother going in. Worst of all, both humans and androids live here, and they're all pretty broke, so they fight each other all the time." Kyle looks unsure. I have to cheer him up "Don't worry, the people here aren't good people, don't feel too bad about them. It might be dark, but i've seen the things these people do. Quite a few are psychopaths." I say that, but the truth is, some of these people are just ones that failed to pay debts and were forced in here. A lot of them had to deal with things out of their control. "Anyway, the person we need to deal with is in here. Just follow me." As I walk into another building, a group of robots go up to me. "Who the fuck are you?" Staring them directly in the face, showing only a small sign of fear to them, I say "Im the freedom junkie. This here, is my little brother." Pointing to Kyle. They immediately recognize me, and say "Ah... You can meet him." As im walking through the building, I see people jumping someone. Robots jumping a human girl. Ignore it. It has nothing to do with me. "Hey, are you just gonna ignore that?" Kyle looks at me with surprise. This kid... never thinking about himself. I look at the girl, all beaten & bloody, begging them to stop, and walk over to the 2 robots. "Don't... do that." I say, unsure. One of the robots turn to me "Oh yeah, we'll stop. You got any circuit fuel?" They're threatening me. The girl looks at me with wide eyes. She turns to the robots. "You're just made I stole your shit, circuits-for-brains!" At that sentence, I instantly find that this situation will be a lot more complicated than I thought. I look back, ready to just leave without a fight, but I see Kyle's impressionable face, and realize that I can't do it. I have to stop these guys. I grab the girl, and teleport away. "Are you ok?" I ask, as the girl is in a daze. "Stop it! I was just about to pickpocket those stupid bots! You suck, old man!" This kid... "Yeah, yeah don't cream your pants kid. I was just tryna help." I say, dismissing her.
Looking over at Kyle, I decide to make up some words of wisdom on the spot. "Kyle, when a young woman's in trouble, always protect them." I say, giving 60 dollars from my pocket, and giving it to the girl. She looks at me once again with wide eyes, and shouts over to me: "Is that all you got? You broke loser. I was just gonna steal from you anyway!" Jesus christ, she can't be serious! She's still on with this crap! I can't even do something nice without getting hassled for it. Sneaking around her, I manage to pickpocket my 60 dollars back from her while she's going crazy all over me.
Eventually I leave, letting Kyle follow along. "Damn, that stupid girl wasted an hour of my time! Trying to reason with her was pointless!" The truth was, I didn't wanna get involved. Those robots don't know where I am now, but they certainly know that im the freedom junkie after teleporting away. And on top of that, if that girl really did enrage them that much, what I did just now would certainly make them angry. I better not let them know about Kyle. I don't want this kid to die. I finally decide to talk to him. "Let's meet up with him now." I grab Kyle, and immediately teleport through the crowd to the place. A cold, wet room with nothing but torture weapons around. "Who's that?" Kyle asks "That's him. The Perfect Human." Kyle might not know who we're talking to, but I do. 50 Years ago, a boy was born. This boy had a natural IQ of 200 by the time he was born, which was abnormal. Not only that, but he had learned 3 languages by the time he was 5, and learned 2 more by age 10. This boy hadn't been sick a single day in his life. His parents, the King & Queen of New America, were scared of what he would become in the future due to his dark tendencies, and his strange obsession with killing small animals, so they tried to poison him. He was able to live through the poison without feeling even a hint of sickness. They had tried to drown him, yet he held his breath for the longest amount of time in history. They tried to overpower him, but his natural strength was so abnormal that he was able to stop them. They even tried assassinate him, but he outsmarted the assassin & killed him first. He was said to be the rightful heir to the throne until he went missing at age 15. His endurance is so good that he was able to run 15 miles straight without even sweating. He's at the height of perfection in every aspect of his life. An unstoppable force of nature, much like the chaotic demons & celestial angels. "Hello, Freedom Junkie. How was it like to get here? Did you have fun?" This guy... he's problematic. I've been thinking of a way to stop him for a couple years now, but I can't. With my teleportation, I can easily kill him, but I don't want to do that if I don't have to. "Are you still fighting for that pathetic dream of yours?" He says, with a straight face, his beauty unparallelled. "I can help you, but you still have to do something for me. You understand our 'Friendship' is purely transactional." Damn it! I expected this to happen! "There's a group of pirates across the sea. As you know, a powerful character has risen up there." No... "You can't be serious! Are you really talking about...!?" He looks at me with serious eyes. "Yes. I'm talking about the Pirate Queen!" This guy... "Who's the pirate Queen?" Kyle says. "She's a chaotic demon, known for her rule of the seas. She can control the sea, and she can even control sea monsters. She's a terrifying entity that nobody should mess with." Kyle looks at me, confused. "Can't you just teleport to her & defeat her?" I stare at Kyle, hesitantly. "Well, what he wants me to do is kill her. I don't know if im comfortable doing that, and even if I was, she'd be insanely difficult to kill. My teleportation has limits. If I don't know the general area of where someone is, I risk teleporting into an object. That could kill me. I mean, what if I were to teleport into a tree?" Kyle starts laughing at me. "Wow, teleporting into a tree in the middle of the ocean? You're senile, old man!" These fucks! Why do they always have to call me old! "I'm 20 years old, you little fricking dirtbag!" I shout, trying to scare Kyle into shutting up. Suddenly, the Perfect Human speaks up. "Don't worry, I have someone who can help you guys. She's been working for me for about 2 years now. Her name is Shelby." Shelby? That's interesting. I suppose having a third on the team wouldn't be too bad. It would be nice to have a pretty woman in the group instead of a duo with some asshole kid. Suddenly, a familiar looking girl runs up to me. Oh shit! It's this kid! The stupid shoplifter I met before! "THIS is Shelby? Dude, i'm not a fucking babysitter! Send someone else!!" Shelby looks at me with a mean expression. "I'm not a little kid, im 20 years old! I'm probably older than you!" Ignoring her, I quickly begin to leave. The perfect human looks at me. "Do you want it or not?" I look at Shelby once again. "The girl. Who is she? What's her significance?" The perfect human looks at me. "That's of no importance to you. All you need to know is that she's the sole key to our future. Take her with you. She's a Celestial Angel with a very unique power." An interesting power? I've heard of Celestial Angels having many weird and strange powers, but for someone as well-learned as him to say that, it must be interesting to say the least. "What kinda power?" I ask, certain that he's going to say something crazy next. "She is not only a powerful Celestial Angel, but she is also my daughter." His daughter? Is he crazy? He knows we are enemies? Why would he show me his daughter? Unless he either trusts me to an overwhelming degree, or...
Or he doesn't care about her. She's just a tool for him to use to further his goals. Would he really be willing to sacrifice his own child for this. It'll be a dangerous journey, and he doesn't seem to bat an eye. This guy is a complete sociopath without a single shred of empathy. He needs to go. "I'll protect her with my life." I say, already convincing myself to bring her along. I'm not gonna let her die just because her dad wants her to. Without a doubt. I'll protect her. "Fine. I'll do it. But you better give me the payment i'm owed at the end of this." I say, trying to get a read on the situation. "She has the power to change the world. She's a person who will someday have the limitless power of endless speed." What? Someday? "What do you mean by that? She doesn't have that power already?"
He waits a long time to reply. "No. I created her. She was actually the sole weapon I used in creating my empire. And someday, she will defeat you."
Defeat me? "I don't get it. That's impossible!"
It's crazy. I've never even heard of it. Someone who was born a normal person & was genetically altered to be a Celestial Angel? If it's possible, this guy might actually be too dangerous to be left alive. But do I really want to kill him? To commit murder in cold blood, right in front of Kyle. I can't do it. No! I won't!
"Yes, we were all shocked when we learned of your existence. The Freedom Junkie. A powerful Chaotic Demon the world has never seen. A unique existence that lives for freedom & has an unattainable goal that he would do anything to achieve. When we first saw you in action, we all admired, feared, anticipated and wished to see you & what you did next. Seeing the things you did after that, it was brilliant. There was not a man on earth that didn't know of the Freedom Junkie. How could we conquer such a magnificent creature. Someone who can change the entire world on a whim. I have to say, even I admired you. But this girl. My creation. She was created by me. With the sole purpose of defeating you. I engineered her to perfection. A child with no free will of its own. Spent all day in a lab being poked, prodded, altered."
This fucking sicko! "You stupid bastard!"
I look over to the girl "Well? Do you agree with him?" I ask, incredulously. "Why won't you respond? Are you even a little enraged by the fact that this guy controls your life?"
She doesn't even say a word, she just turns her head & sighs. "So, this is it? You're just gonna continue being a worthless puppet all your life? Pathetic." I shout, no longer having the heart to argue against someone who won't even talk back.
He looks at me, seeing me seethe with rage. "I see. To you, she's a human. With hopes, dreams, emotions. A girl with wishes, desires. Feelings of love. Feelings of strife. Hardships and romance. That kind of stuff may be familiar to you and your friend over there, but to me, she's a tool for my use. My daughter. The ultimate creation. The greatest weapon in the history of human-kind. She's incredible, isn't she?"
I look over at Kyle. I can tell his blood is starting to boil. The kid might be a jerk, but he has human emotions. Kyle rushes over to him, but I stop him just in time. "No. Don't challenge him. If he, the perfect human, is saying all of this, then he's in a situation where he's confident of coming out victorious." Unfortunately, Kyle will just have to sit there and grit his teeth. "So, you say that she's your ultimate weapon?" I ask "Does she think that?" He looks away for a split second. "Say what you really mean?" He says, shocking me into another question that I've been dying to ask. "So, she's supposed to beat me right? Why are you telling me this? If I were to kill her right now, before you were to even retort, would you be able to stop me?"
"Stop you? I know you aren't capable of killing her. You're the freedom junkie. I know everything about you. If you learned that there would be someone with a new power, you would never kill them. You live for the excitement of battle. You are nothing but an adrenaline junkie, willing to risk everything for a moticom of entertainment. And to top it off, could you even kill her? In front of your friend there? Would you want him to know you as a murderer?"
This piece of shit! "Don't you dare talk about Kyle like that!"
"Let's talk business", he says, ignoring me "My daughter wants to travel with you. Will you deny her freedom and let her continue as a tool?"
"Of course I will. But tell me? What is your end goal? What do you hope to achieve?"
He smiles, seemingly more than happy to answer. "I want to meet a certain person. To do that, I must become the most powerful existence in the world. I must become a man who can transcend humanity. Otherwise, that person will never be able to communicate with me. That is all."
A person? Who must he be talking about? I've never heard of something like that. It's very good information to have if I want to defeat this man in the future. I definitely have to achieve my goal before he meets this mysterious person, otherwise, he'd be far too powerful for me to stop. I mean, if he truly has to become the most powerful existence in the entire world just to meet this person, then that person would have to be the closest existence to a God.
In battle, information is the most useful weapon. The fact that someone as smart as him is telling me all this seems very suspicious. Either he has no fear of me using this information against him, or this information is useless. He knows the type of person I am. He knows my curiosity is too powerful to quell. He might think that i'll just let him get away with it. Either way, he's got another thing coming. I can't beat him now. Not with Shelby & Kyle here. I can't risk Kyle's life right now.
"Kyle, Shelby. Let's go." I shout, showing my disgust for the so called 'Perfect Human'
"One more thing." The perfect human shouts back. Is he talking to me? No.
He's looking directly at Kyle! With a sharp face, he becomes serious in an instant. "Boy. The Freedom Junkie. Do you trust him?" What is this guy getting at? "Just remember. He's a Chaotic Demon for a reason. Be careful." As Kyle looks at me with a confused expression, I begin to speak. "Let's go, we'll talk later." As Shelby follows us, we walk out of the building, and leave the slums.
"Hey, what was he talking about when he told me not to trust you?" Kyle asks
"He's right. You don't know who I am," I say, sadly, "But you do know that, no matter what happens, we're both friends to the very end. In fact, you kinda remind me of my little brother."
"Your brother? You have a brother?! What's he like! Can he teleport, just like you?" He asks with a wild expression. "Well, he was his own person. He had his own opinions and morals, I don't think I really affected him all that much. He wasn't just another tool for me to use." Looking back at the silent woman following us, I turn to Shelby. "He's kinda like you." I tell her with a sly smile.
"Not a tool."
