Chapter 1244: Camping In The Labyrinthian

The decision was quickly made to just set up camp here on the border of these two biomes, locked between a howling windstorm that was so close yet would never touch us and a jungle littered with more geodes than some mountains ever had the privilege of forming in their lifetime.

Even though the sun was still partially hanging around just above the horizon we had agreed that this was enough for today, and with the two impressive corpses of some strong monsters being right here in front of us it was an easy decision to make.

Anput had already begun peeling away the pelt from the two headed tiger while Leone and I followed up behind her as we began to carve away all of the meat from the bone to prepare for dinner tonight.

The others all patrolled around the edge of our little space searching for anything of value and any herbs that might help make dinner just a little more palatable, though if not we had some seasonings stowed away in many of the bags and boxes on the carriage, something that I had done to ensure we could have meals that tasted like real food.

While the harmony of this group wasn't the greatest outside of the clear subgroups that had already existed beforehand - obviously us, then Mom had enough chemistry already with Lady Fenyras while Lilith and Draka just floated around helping whomever was closest - there was clear routes for improvement that would just take some time.

It was the first actual day here, after all, and Lady Fenyras had only been insufferable once or twice, though that was likely due to the grueling march that we had endured to get to where we are right now.

The camp came together in no time at all, and soon we had begun roasting some of the large slabs of meat that we had harvested from the corpse with a spattering of herbs floating around the bone broth that I had made.

A wind funnel taking the delicious scent of the cooking way up into the atmosphere helped keep the monsters away from us since there was nothing to lure them over, and the others began to rest while Anput tinkered around with the various bones and the gigantic pelt, getting them bundled up and added to the carriage.

"This isn't so bad, is it~?"

Lilith had laid out her bedroll already and was lounging on top of it, still smiling as she sank into the fluffy cushions that were able to be slid into the various pockets of the bedroll, and after the fire got to a certain level she looked just as comfortable as any of us were back in civilization, the firelight dancing on her skin in ways that emphasized her beauty far more than before.

"It truly is like camping anywhere else, but we now have two different, beautiful collections of nature on either side of us that reflect the sunlight and moonlight perfectly~! All that we're missing are some mugs of tea, meat sticks and an instrument of some kind~!"

She seemed even more happy than all of us combined as she laid there, and while I wanted to glare at her for how very much not like that this situation was, I just remained quiet and focused on my arms being able to work as the nerves went from sharp aching to dull aching, the weight dropping from compressed steel to a thick log of wood.

Barely any different but just manageable, and as the occasional whiff of the stew I was making drifted towards my nose my stomach grumbled demandingly, setting off a chain of the others realizing how hungry they were too; even Mom was smiling wryly as she waited for the meal to be ready, her hand resting just over her belly.

"What we're really missing is a bottle of nice, strong liquor to end the day properly. I knew I should have brought a few..."

The Demon Wolf plopped down nearby and watched me as well, though she eventually glanced at Lilith and asked "So this is what you've been living like for the last however many years? How have you not gone crazy?", causing the black skinned Demoness to just laugh as she sat up, looking at us all with a gleam in her eyes that made the second question redundant.

"'Crazy' is just an odd enough label to throw around in general, Fenyras. What makes someone crazy, hm? Not fitting in with the preconceived social norms that everyone else follows blindly? If so, are you not crazy? Is the Empress not crazy?"

Her amusement made the rest of us raise a brow, with even Mom having to shake her head slightly as she realized that the other Demoness was, in fact, not completely walking around with all her screws tightened, though that was to be expected after who knows how long of being left here, in the dangerous Labyrinthian all alone.

"Anyways, yes, I've been wandering around inside of the Labyrinthian for quite some time studying everything I can about it. Anything that seems incredibly important is written down in whatever books I gathered before I returned to this wonderful place, and they were all stowed away in a safe spot guarded by Ter'Ran.

Honestly there are heaps of fun things I had discovered in here that I cannot wait to share with the rest of the world, but for now I needed to figure out something about the center of the Labyrinthian, and that was where you all came in~!

A Dragonkin, a Vampire, Demonesses, Light Magic, other strong Magics, various perspectives on everything... all of you were needed, and I cannot wait~ to see how you react to the things I have found~! They are absolutely fascinating discoveries that will definitely change everything~!"

Lilith looked around with a grin before dropping that topic right there, refusing to elaborate any further and instead bringing the discussion around to other things, asking her own questions now as she got each of us to talk about ourselves.

None of us 'forgot' about what she had said, and yet whenever we tried to poke and prod that topic she just 'walked' around it and completely ignored it, not giving us any new details as she kept it all close to her chest.
