Chapter 22: Chapter 22: The Hyuga Siblings
Sorry for the late chapters ! Today is double release as an excuse.
Haru followed behind Sarutobi Hiruzen, chatting about some trivial matters along the way.
Noticing that Haru didn't deliberately mention his assassination attempt by the Root, Hiruzen also avoided the topic.
Both of them tacitly treated yesterday as if nothing had happened.
It wasn't until Haru arrived at the Hyuga clan's compound that he realized how cautious the entire place was; almost every short distance had a branch family member on guard.
Sarutobi Hiruzen acted as if he was used to it, ignoring the guards.
The entrance to the main house was easy to find; it was quite prominent, radiating a sense of grandeur.
To say the least, the Hyuga clan joined the village long ago, during the time when Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara reconciled and established Konoha.
After hundreds of years of development, they were undoubtedly one of the elder clans of Konoha.
At the same time, the Hyuga clan had also survived to become known as "the strongest clan in Konoha."
However, to Haru, it felt rather like the calm before the storm.
"Third Hokage,"
Hyuga Hiashi, the head of the main family, came to greet them at the door.
Although the Hyuga clan was an elder family, they still needed to show proper respect in front of the Hokage.
Most importantly, the incident involving Hinata being kidnapped hadn't yet been resolved.
They still required the Third Hokage's decision on how to calm the anger of the Cloud Village.
Behind Hiashi were members of the branch family.
This indicated that Sarutobi Hiruzen wasn't here to see how Hinata was recovering.
Haru thought to himself, while also understanding that Hiruzen likely wouldn't involve him in this meeting.
"Hmm, Hiashi," Sarutobi Hiruzen responded, his gaze shifting to Haru.
Hyuga Hiashi also turned to look at Haru, assessing him from head to toe.
In fact, he had already investigated the person who saved his daughter before this meeting.
Seeing Haru now, he immediately recognized him.
"Senju Haru."
Hiashi nodded in acknowledgment and introduced himself.
"I am Hiashi Hyuga, head of the Hyuga clan and Hinata's father."
Hiashi looked tired, with noticeable dark circles under his eyes.
It was clear that he had been mentally and physically exhausted during this time.
Nevertheless, he still managed a slight smile toward Haru, as if expressing his gratitude.
Of course, Hiashi didn't mention the events of that night or any words of thanks.
"He is Hinata's classmate and came to see her. We happened to run into each other on the way," said Hiruzen.
Hiashi, not continuing the conversation with Haru but rather gesturing for Sarutobi Hiruzen to follow him inside.
"Please, Hokage," Hiashi invited, leading the way in front of Sarutobi Hiruzen.
Haru was stopped by a branch family member.
"Lady Hinata is this way; please follow me."
"Mm." Haru glanced at Sarutobi Hiruzen and Hiashi before following the branch family member to the inner courtyard of the main house.
As the person had mentioned, Hinata was currently resting here.
However, after bringing him to this location, the branch family member chose to leave.
'It seems the Third Hokage is indeed here to discuss the previous kidnapping with Hiashi.'
Haru shook his head. According to the storyline, it wouldn't be long before Hyuga Hizashi would offer himself up and be handed over to the Cloud Village by Konoha's higher-ups to quell the potential conflict.
As a result, Neji would develop hatred towards the main family and eventually injure Hinata severely.
With these thoughts in mind, Haru stood in the Hyuga courtyard, looking up at the sky.
A gentle breeze brushed against his cheek, and he suddenly felt something.
Not only the branch family but perhaps even the main family were like birds in a cage.
Unable to resist, they could only silently endure the rules set by their ancestors.
Whether those rules were right or wrong.
"Hinata."
Bringing his thoughts back, Haru took a step forward, only to notice Hinata peeking out from behind the door, one eye watching him cautiously.
'It feels like a cat that was just brought home.'
Haru couldn't help but think to himself.
He was certain that Hinata remembered him from that night, and he expected she would be happy to see him again.
However, knowing that Hinata had this kind of personality, Haru quickly let it go.
"Who are you?"
Just as Haru hesitated on whether to approach and greet Hinata, another voice came from behind him.
This voice…
Haru instinctively turned around and saw a boy with brown hair tied into small bundles at the ends and several layers of white bandages wrapped around his forehead.
Upon seeing Haru, the boy immediately assumed an attacking stance, sizing him up.
Haru recognized his identity at a glance.
He was Neji Hyuga, the branch family's exceptional genius.
'Neji?'
Haru furrowed his brow and glanced at Hinata peeking from the doorway, realizing the situation.
At this point, Hizashi had not yet sacrificed himself for Hiashi, and Neji was still being trained to protect Hinata at all times.
With the head of the main family and the elders discussing important matters with the Third Hokage, as a child from the branch family, Neji naturally had no right to stay there and eavesdrop.
Hinata, seeing her brother Neji suddenly appear, felt a bit anxious.
As soon as Haru entered, she had noticed the person who saved her but, due to her shy nature, didn't dare to speak to him.
Unexpectedly, her brother Neji regarded Haru as a bad person.
"Senju Haru."
Seeing Neji's hostile attitude, Haru revealed his identity directly, feeling somewhat awkward.
Sarutobi Hiruzen had advised him on the way here.
Not to say too much at the Hyuga residence, and had even hinted subtly that it was "Hizashi" who defeated the leader of the Cloud Ninja and saved Hinata.
"I'm Hinata's classmate. I heard she was sick, so I came to see how she was recovering."
After a moment of thought, Haru had to come up with such an explanation, while also casting a glance at Hinata, urging her to say something.
However, to Haru's surprise, Hinata, hiding behind the door, chose to turn and run away.
"…"
Even if she was shy, there should be limits.
"Sure enough…"
Neji, seeing this, was even more convinced that Haru was a bad person and that his sister Hinata must have run away out of fear.
With this conclusion in mind, Neji wasted no time and launched a full-on attack against Haru.
After all, the mission of the branch family was to protect the main family!
And Hinata was not only the eldest daughter of the Hyuga clan but also his little sister!
