Chapter 31
Chapter 31: Conclusion of the Battle Against Aoi
After crossing fists with Aoi and talking things over, they promised not to tease or bully anymore.
At the moment I felt relieved...
'Kuchun!'
Obata-san sneezed!
'Auntie! Shh!'
'I told you to stop calling me Auntie!'
Aoi spoke up.
'It's Kashii and Obata, right?'
'...That's not it!'
Kashii-san's falsetto hasn't changed much!
Also, Auntie (lol), your sneeze is kinda cute, huh?
Hey, don't start threatening me with a handheld mixer now!
'Well, whatever. I lost, so I've got nothing to say.'
Kousuke cut the zip ties holding Aoi with nippers. Just in case, he stayed cautious of any attack on the girls, but nothing happened. Kousuke spoke while removing his mask.
'There's no need for masks or restraints when guys talk things out.'
Aoi shed tears at Kousuke's words. This person's pretty passionate, huh.
It's past 7 PM, and it's getting dark. The rice balls and fried chicken Kashii-san and the others brought as snacks are super tasty!
This time, all of us talked together, forgetting about the bullying and being bullied.
'I was really moved by the fight between Tachibana-kun and Aoi!'
'That was an incredible fist!'
'Tachibana waited three minutes for me even though I was exhausted, and on top of that, he didn't dodge a single punch before starting the fight! I thought it was straight out of a manga!'
'Aoi is strong. Once an enemy, but now... a worthy rival (friend).'
'Seriously?! You're really calling me a worthy rival with the reading of "friend"?'
'You're calling me a worthy rival (friend)?!'
Aoi shed tears again.
We talked with a weird kind of energy.
Maybe because we ate together under lantern light like we were camping, or maybe because of the high from the fight, we couldn't tell, but we were super hyped while talking.
The girls got fed up and left by 8 PM. We just discussed tomorrow's plans before they went.
We also broke up around 9 PM. Even so, this heat kept our excitement going.
'The starry sky is beautiful tonight! I'll never forget today!'
'Yeah, I won't forget it either!'
'Me too!'
'I'm glad we were born in the same era!'
We talked passionately, getting into a weird kind of vibe.
I lost to the heat of this fist! Or, when Aoi's punch hit me, I saw the universe! Or, we're totally in sync right now! Or, I want to go one-on-one with Aoi too! (You'll definitely die, okay?) Or, right now, I feel like I can't lose to anyone! (Even though your face is super swollen.) We talked with full-on chuunibyou vibes, driven by a sense of omnipotence from the excitement.
Kousuke just nodded silently. Everyone forgot the time as we talked.
At this rate, we might end up swearing to die on the same year, month, and day, even though we were born on different days.
(I was born on March 17th, so I'd definitely be the youngest brother.) I thought and stopped myself.
Before breaking up, we discussed tomorrow's plans and then dispersed.
On the way home, still buzzing with excitement, I muttered to myself while looking at the starry sky.
'...I'll never forget today...'
The next day.
'...I want to forget yesterday...'
I got too carried away yesterday. Thinking about words like worthy rival, universe, or being glad to be born in the same era makes me blush. Plus, my cheeks hurt so much.
I covered my face with both hands and rolled around on my bed.
(Come to think of it, wasn't Kousuke recording everything? I think I saw him retrieve a tablet with a battery from the shadows during cleanup. And didn't he stop recording on his phone at the end too?)
To begin with, Kousuke barely spoke except when cutting the zip ties. Aoi and I must have said some really embarrassing things.
Another page added to my black history...
(I'm embarrassed, my cheeks hurt, and I don't want to go to school.)
But I can't just skip.
I was the one who suggested it, but today Aoi and I are going to be publicly judged by Kashii-san.
Before homeroom in the morning, Kashii-san will scold Aoi and me in front of everyone for fighting. Violence is absolutely not allowed, and both parties in a fight are to blame! She'll hammer in that teasing, bullying, and violence are absolutely unforgivable, and then give Aoi and me penalties.
This will boost Kashii-san's influence in the class and help shape public opinion against teasing, bullying, and violence.
After that, if I can propose measures to prevent bullying of the neutral faction, break down and check the Sotomachi group, the issues of teasing, bullying, and violence in this class will probably settle down.
If that's achieved, Kashii-san's reign will be solid, and peace will come... or so I hope. Since we're dealing with people, you never know what might happen, right?
But if I can stop Kashii-san's troubled face and the tears from that day, then the pain in my face is a small price to pay.
Guess I've got no choice but to go to school!

A conversation among the girls who left earlier.
'Obata-chan, do boys really understand each other after fighting at the riverside in the evening?'
'Reina, that's a pretty special case, you know?'
'But there's something kind of nice about boys, isn't there?'
'If girls got that messed up, it'd just be hell or more hell.'
'It'd just be hell, wouldn't it.'
