Chapter 694: Spider on the run
Chapter 694: Spider on the run
While the starting players took their time to enter the field, Hiro made himself comfortable on the bench. It would be a while before he could step inside the field.
Leaning against the seat, Hiro looked above. He could vividly see the ceiling, the blinding lights illuminating the stadium.
He swept his glance toward the opposing box. He could spot a few familiar faces. Most of them had a quite large frame. Hiro had expected it before. Even so, seeing them in person, Hiro couldn't help but marvel at them.
"Benjamin Henrich, why is he benched?" Hiro's brows raised.
He couldn't help but ponder why an in-form starting player was benched. He hadn't heard of any injury report about him, making it even more difficult to understand.
Without even realizing it, he had been staring intently at him.
Just as he was staring at him, Benjamin turned to look in his direction. Their gazes intertwined, and Hiro immediately felt his senses tingle.
Benjamin's stare was intense and intimidating.
Hiro could feel an intense pressure exuding from those pair of blue eyes.
Perhaps, it was his intuition warning him of the foreboding danger. He couldn't tell why he
felt that way. Yet still, he didn't look away despite the intimidation.
Though Hiro couldn't fathom why he was benched, he could tell it wasn't because of an injury.
Soon after, the players emerged on the field and the game began.
Beep!
The game began in full swing as the players sprang into action.
Hiro intently watched the progressing match without leaving any details. While watching, he detected a few threats.
In this match, the opposing side played rather peculiarly. Their formation changed constantly and the players seemed to have adapted to the transition. Their transition from offense to defense was swift and smooth.
They pressed hard on the offense and quickly transitioned to defense every time they lost the ball.
However, Atletico who relied on counter-attacking football didn't find their hard-pressing game difficult. Though they found themselves in danger often, they didn't concede.
On the other hand every time, the opposition failed to make an impact, they responded immediately.
Yet still, none of them managed to open the score.
Though there were some threatening moments, the game was neck and neck. Until the 56th minute of the game, both sides remained scoreless.
Then in the 56th minute, Alvarez made an amazing run. Griezmann capitalizing on the moment sent an impressive through pass that cut through the opposing formation like a hot knife placed atop the slab of butter.
The pass cut through the opposing defense almost effortlessly, sending the opposing defenders into a frenzy.
Simultaneously, Alvarez tore through their formation. He was agile and nimble. Like a snake meandering around the obstacle, he evaded the opposing defenders as if they were inanimate objects.
Speed and positioning were his specialties.
The pattern looked almost similar to the ones he performed in the training. Hiro immediately found a semblance. Almost instinctively, he could tell where he was headed.
The spider was on the move and the whole field had turned into its lair.
Witnessing Alvarez's run, the crowd was growing equally excited. Anticipation and
excitement lingered in the air as the game progressed.
Hiro and the others in the box watched him with growing anticipation.
The first half had already ended. Though they weren't tailing, they weren't winning either. However, they were calm. The scoreless scoreboard didn't bother them.
After all, their strategy was to dominate the last quarter of the match.
Diego with his defensive mentality would even deploy a formation that saw everybody defending. More than anything else he emphasized defense.
In terms of compatibility, this wasn't the type of team Hiro was suited to.
Yet surprisingly when he trained with them, Hiro didn't find it difficult to adjust. However, it was rather risky because they played the ball in their half most of the time. Yet still, if they played it well, they could generate more quality chances.
While watching the unfolding match, Hiro couldn't help but think about the training session. Alvarez often snuck behind the defenders and waited for an opportunity. In a sense, he could be considered a poacher who liked to attack sneakily.
In terms of positioning and off-the-ball movement, he was one of the best. Perhaps, he had developed this trait to such a level that even Hiro couldn't imitate it.
Watching him execute this technique often made him envious.
From the moment, he laid his eyes on this technique of Alvarez, he had been desiring it. If only the system assisted him in acquiring it, he would be even more unstoppable.
Hiro had confidence in his off-the-ball movement. But watching Alvarez, he couldn't help but feel inferior. The level of off-the-ball movement Alvarez possessed was on an entirely different scale.
Even at this moment, the opposing players couldn't even get near him.
However, without the presence of an excellent passer, this technique would be rendered useless. No wonder, Diego was so desperate to sign him.
As Hiro watched the unfolding scene, many things became clear to him.
Like an eureka striking out of nowhere, Hiro became much more aware of his role in the team. But at the same time, he couldn't help but contemplate what would happen if he became the scorer instead of a passer.
Perhaps, that would create an imbalance in the team.
Even so, just as he liked passing, he liked scoring too. So, he wouldn't stop taking chances if
The found an opportunity.
Swiftly avoiding the obstacle in his way, Alvarez appeared before the box. The opposing
keeper had already left his post to intercept.
The opposing defenders were also retreating steadily.
Alvarez, now at the edge of the box had two choices: either to continue advancing or take a
shot from the spot where he was.
Creative dribbling wasn't his forte. But he was confident enough to keep the ball at his feet.
That's why he had been named the spider.
His ability to hold the ball had earned him the title of spider.
However, at this point, he found the latter option more viable than the initial.
