Chapter 2: CHAPTER 2
Three days later, in a manor on the Hudson River, a helicopter slowly descended.
A moment later, a blindfolded figure was escorted out of the helicopter by several armed female mercenaries. Leading them was Soren, who walked up to Kaelin, standing nearby.
"Boss, the target has been secured," Soren reported.
Kaelin nodded. "Good." He then turned and led the way toward the villa.
A few minutes later, inside a room in the villa, two female mercenaries removed the hood from Wanda's face. She glanced around in alarm before her gaze settled on Kaelin.
"Who are you? What do you want?" she demanded.
Kaelin ignored her question and first addressed the two mercenaries. "You can leave."
Once they exited, he turned his attention back to Wanda, studying her carefully. She looked almost identical to Elizabeth Olsen from the movies in his past life, except younger and even more striking. After all, by his estimation, Wanda was only 18 years old at this time.
"Wanda Maximoff," Kaelin began, flipping through a file. "Born in Sokovia, Eastern Europe. When you were eight years old, your parents died in a terrorist attack, leaving only you and your twin brother, Pietro Maximoff—"
Wanda's expression darkened at hearing her personal history recited so precisely. She quickly masked her reaction and tried to sound composed. "Why did you bring me here? What do you want?"
Closing the file, Kaelin smiled. "Ms. Wanda, I want you to understand that I had you brought here with no ill intentions."
Wanda scoffed, shaking the ropes binding her wrists. "No ill intentions? Really? Then what do you call this?"
Kaelin sighed but didn't respond. Instead, he stepped forward, pulled out a dagger, and cut the ropes. He wasn't worried—at this stage, Wanda had yet to awaken her abilities and was just an ordinary person.
"In truth, I brought you here to make a deal."
"A deal?" Wanda rubbed her sore wrists, her wary eyes locked on him.
"That's right." Kaelin nodded. "I know about your life in Sokovia. You work in a café, and Pietro delivers food for a pizza shop. Your combined monthly income barely exceeds 2,000 euros. It's not an easy life."
"That's none of your business," Wanda snapped.
Kaelin ignored her protest and continued. "The deal is simple—you marry me, and in return, your brother Pietro will receive enough wealth to live a comfortable, worry-free life."
Wanda's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Of course, you can refuse," Kaelin added with a casual shrug. "But in that case, I can't guarantee the safety of either of you."
Her expression shifted instantly, her face paling as she realized the implied threat. "You… you're shameless!"
Kaelin remained unfazed. "Think of it however you like."
He understood Wanda's personality well. If she were alone, she might resist at any cost. But she wasn't alone—she had Pietro. Family was her weakness.
Yes, his approach was coercive, but he didn't care.
What mattered now was activating the system.
"I'll give you five minutes to decide," Kaelin said, leaning back in his chair. "Think carefully. Your choice will determine not just your future, but your brother's as well."
Then he fell silent, watching her.
For him, this was the most efficient way. He had no time to slowly build a relationship with her, nor did he know if he was her type. He wasn't some overpowered protagonist with a charm aura that made every woman fall for him at first sight.
Besides, he had more pressing concerns.
Thanos would snap his fingers in ten years. And without fully understanding the system's capabilities, Kaelin had no guarantee he'd be ready to face what was coming.
The sooner he activated it, the better.
Besides, this is not necessarily a bad thing for Wanda.
Looking at her original life trajectory, it was merely a template for a star of destiny.
Sensing that the time was right, Kaelin sat up straight, his eyes locked onto her.
"Well, Ms. Wanda, what is your final decision?"
Wanda lifted her head and glared at Kaelin, frustration evident in her expression.
"Why does it have to be me?"
"That's not something you need to know."
Kaelin had no intention of revealing anything about the system. A true secret is one that no one else knows.
Hearing his response, Wanda exhaled deeply, as if accepting the inevitable.
"I agree, but you have to keep your word and let Pete go."
In the end, she had no choice but to yield to his power.
Based on what had just transpired, it was clear that Kaelin was no ordinary man—he was powerful.
She and Pietro, just two orphans, had no means to resist.
In today's world, money truly meant power—the ability to do whatever one desired.
If she resisted, the likely outcome would be that she and Pietro would simply vanish without a trace.
Had she been alone, she might have chosen to fight to the death. But with Pietro's life at stake, surrender was the only option.
Pietro was her only family now.
"You don't have to worry. I always keep my promises—I will never go back on my word."
Seeing that Wanda had agreed, Kaelin reassured her immediately.
That afternoon, Pietro was brought to the villa.
In the lavish living room, Pietro stared at Wanda, his face filled with shock as he took in the sight before him. She was standing there, dressed in an extravagant wedding gown.
"What the—?!"
"Are you kidding me?"
He couldn't believe what he was hearing. His sister—who had never even had a boyfriend—was suddenly announcing that she was getting married.
And not just that.
The wedding was set for tomorrow.
To make things even more absurd, the groom was a wealthy man from the United States—more than 2,000 kilometers away from their home.
When he had first entered the manor, he nearly got lost in its vastness. If it weren't for the servant guiding him, he might still be wandering around.
In disbelief, he pinched his arm hard.
It wasn't a dream.
His expression twisted into a mix of confusion and incredulity.
Wanda, who had been struggling earlier while trying on the wedding dress, smiled at the sight of him.
"I hadn't made my decision before, so I'm only telling you now."
It was the excuse she had prepared in advance.
She knew Pietro all too well—if he found out the truth, things would only get worse. It was better to keep him in the dark.
"But…" Pietro hesitated. "How did you two even meet? We live so far apart."
"Of course—"
Wanda was about to give her pre-prepared explanation when Kaelin entered the room.
Noticing Pietro standing beside Wanda, he smiled warmly.
"Hello, you must be Wanda's brother, Pietro."
Pietro's eyes narrowed. "Who are you?"
"I'm Kaelin, Wanda's fiancé. You can call me Kae."
Pietro looked at the man before him—tall, handsome, and exuding an air of sophistication. Suddenly, he felt a little self-conscious.
Years of struggling at the bottom of society had left him feeling out of place in situations like this.
After a long pause, he hesitantly raised his right hand.
"…Hello."
Half an hour later, reality forced Pietro to accept the situation.
When Wanda first told him about this over the phone, he was convinced she had been deceived by some scumbag. He had come here fully prepared to confront and expose the man.
But now, that idea had completely vanished.
Kaelin wasn't just young and handsome—he radiated wealth and power.
No matter how Pietro looked at it, it didn't seem like a scam.
Con artists only target money or personal gain.
But in terms of money, Kaelin clearly wasn't lacking.
If this were a lie, why go to such extravagant lengths?
Just moments ago, he had seen the massive preparations underway for the wedding.
A man with this kind of wealth—he could have any woman he wanted.
So why Wanda?
