The next morning.
Senzaemon Nakiri, clad in a Japanese samurai outfit, sat inside a private jet. Coincidentally, these past few days, he had been traveling abroad to interface with an international food company and discuss internship opportunities for Totsuki graduates.
However, who would have thought?
Senzaemon Nakiri's face subtly darkened. With just a moment of oversight, a temporary lapse in attention, that little rascal Erina had pulled a trick on him. She had actually gone and lived with someone else and publicly revealed that she had a boyfriend. In such a situation, if he didn't pay attention, then something truly serious would happen. They had clearly discussed this before: do the right thing at the right age, don't overstep, don't overstep.
Thinking of this, Senzaemon Nakiri felt a surge of frustration. It was an unbearable frustration, not knowing who to vent his anger on. He truly wanted to slam his fist on the table and shatter the teacup. He had temporarily used some of his connections, and this time... he wangled an invitation as a special guest to a production. Senzaemon Nakiri wanted to see if those two little rascals would still dare to act so recklessly with him personally present.
On the private jet, Senzaemon Nakiri's thoughts drifted further and further.
"Wake up," Renz poked Erina, who was still asleep in bed.
Last night, they had discussed for a long time what dishes to make, but ultimately couldn't come up with anything suitable that would dominate the competition.
The family meal from the friendly match, while achieving a temporary victory, might lead to a brutal elimination in a camera-heavy competition like this.
This was because the medicinal cuisine Renz and Erina made wasn't visually stunning, and the show desperately needed dishes with strong visual impact for the cameras.
Presenting medicinal cuisine might seem too ordinary, and even if the judges gave high scores, it might still draw criticism from the audience. Today, their last day, they had to figure out a dish that combined both visual appeal and taste, something well-rounded.
"Can't get up," Erina said, wrapped in her blanket, showing no desire to get out of bed. At Renz's urging, she burrowed her head further in. Are you a sealed hero too?
You're a grown-up, don't succumb to such temptations!
Inside the blanket, Erina's hands embraced Hisako Arato 's waist, making Hisako, who had woken up early but was held down by Erina, blush furiously. Renz couldn't stand it anymore. He reached his hand into the warm blanket and caressed Erina's lower abdomen. Erina was a very sensitive woman and highly ticklish. Renz knew exactly which spots to avoid, as a touch would make her squirm.
"Bastard," Erina playfully cursed. "I'll get up, won't that suffice?"
"Hey, you're making me sound like a complete villain,"
Renz said, not removing his hand. Instead, he intensified the tickling.
"Stop tickling, please, I beg you," Erina rolled over twice, scattering the blanket. Though her face showed annoyance, she was radiant with laughter, her smile showing no signs of fading.
"Seriously, do you two do this every day?" Hisako Arato complained. "I'm a living person right here in front of you. Is it really okay for you to ignore me like that?"
"You're a familiar face," Erina replied. "I feel very comfortable around you, Hisako."
"But I've only known Renz for a little over a month. Why can he be so uninhibited? Shouldn't people who've just met be shy?" Hisako Arato couldn't hold back.
Renz paused. This question was impossible to explain. Could he say, "I'll know you for decades in the future"?
The children in their family had all been held by her, calling her "Auntie" more often than "Mom." Renz really didn't treat Hisako Arato as an outsider. If the previous secretary had been there, Renz might not have dared to make such bold moves.
"Perhaps the first time I saw you, I just felt a strong sense of familiarity," Renz coughed, explaining.
"What are you saying?" Hisako Arato looked confused.
Just as Renz was about to beat around the bush, a text message arrived from the program directorate, wanting to discuss the content of the previous preliminary rounds. Not every contestant's footage could be used in the preliminary rounds, and any footage used would need to include some potentially controversial content. The production team was quite respectful of human rights and wanted to communicate with Renz beforehand.
"Sorry, the production team needs me for something. I'll go check it out first. Breakfast is ready in the kitchen," Renz said, ending the topic. Participating in the show was the main goal here, not honeymooning with Erina and being lovey-dovey all day. He threw on a jacket and left.
Shinji Takahashi, the associate director and host of the program, was already waiting for him in the office.
"Good morning, have you had breakfast?" Shinji Takahashi offered a simple greeting.
"Yes, I have. Is there a problem with the preliminary round footage?" Renz went straight to the point. He wasn't one to waste time.
"Uh, it's like this: for the preliminary round, we plan to make your footage the main focus of the first act. So, we'll be using more techniques in the special effects and post-production," Shinji Takahashi said seriously. "Also, here's a card. Please fill it out." Shinji Takahashi handed him a card. "After you fill it out, our professional team will evaluate your stats."
"For the top 16 elimination round, we will calibrate the values on this card based on your previous performance and feature them on screen," Shinji Takahashi stated truthfully.
Renz took the card. It was a six-pointed star, similar to a magic array, with a small line of text at each vertex.
They listed six data points: Knife Skills, Spice Aptitude, Precision, Knowledge Storage, Head Chef Ability, and Coordination Ability.
Knife Skills, as the name suggested, was the proficiency and skill in using tools, specifically chef knives.
Spice Aptitude referred to the ability to enhance dishes with spices and seasonings.
Precision encompassed a broader range of content, possibly the exactness of each step in the various cooking processes.
Knowledge Storage perhaps represented the theoretical knowledge of various dishes, indicating overall comprehensiveness.
Head Chef Ability generally referred to the standard of cooking achieved when handling dishes alone, without needing assistance.
He couldn't quite understand Coordination Ability.
Perhaps it referred to the ability to quickly compensate and correct errors when something went wrong during a step?
"What level of assessment is this based on?" Renz thought for a moment and asked, "Is it calculated based on world rankings, or the overall level within this show?"
If it was based on world standards, his current six-pointed star's tactical data would shrink significantly. But if it was assessed based on the overall level of this show, Renz was confident he had the strength of a fully-maxed battle god.
"Why even ask? For the show, it's based on the overall level within the show. Don't worry about anything else," Shinji Takahashi glanced at him and said. Could it be that you're thinking of filling all five values to maximum? If you get eliminated, wouldn't that be incredibly awkward?
