Chapter 297 - 0296: Wholehearted (Three More)_1
Chapter 297: Chapter 0296: Wholehearted (Three More)_1
The voice was soft, yet it held a strength that pierced right to the heart.
Upon hearing the familiar voice, Yang Xiaoqiao’s emotions, teetering on the edge of collapse, were soothed, like a small boat adrift at sea suddenly spotting a lighthouse.
She slowly opened her eyes and saw a familiar face.
The face of the man who had caused her immense sadness was before her, wearing an expression of distress and sorrow.
Suddenly, she screamed.
For she saw behind Ye Xiong, a flash of knife light.
Taking advantage of Ye Xiong’s distraction, a thug scrambled up, raised his knife, and viciously stabbed toward Ye Xiong’s back.
Yang Xiaoqiao’s heart leapt into her throat, almost choking her.
Just as the sharp knife was about to plunge into Ye Xiong’s back, he reacted with the speed of someone with eyes in the back of his head and swiftly reached out, grabbed the thug’s wrist, and twisted it with force.
A sound of bones shattering echoed, accompanied by a scream as the thug screeched like a slaughtered pig.
But it wasn’t over yet.
Ye Xiong abruptly stood up, grabbed the thug by the collar, and viciously slammed him into the wall beside them. Under the immense force, the wall was punctured by the thug’s body, leaving a large hole.
Such strength, not to mention a human being, even a car might not be capable of achieving.
The thug slumped to the ground, his bones shattered beyond count, and he fainted dead away.
Another thug, seeing this, turned pale with fright and scrambled toward the outside to escape.
Ye Xiong picked up a piece of broken brick and threw it, hitting the fleeing thug’s foot directly.
A sound of bones breaking was heard, and the thug clutched his knee, howling in pain.
“So noisy.”
Ye Xiong picked up another brick and smashed it down on his head, and the thug immediately passed out.
Now, it was quiet.
Yang Xiaoqiao was stunned, watching Ye Xiong, like a heavenly divine descending, coolly disposing of two thugs and displaying strength that shattered her expectations…
Although she had always known that Ye Xiong was highly skilled, she had not expected him to be this formidable.
It simply wasn’t the strength that a human should possess.
Ye Xiong walked over to Yang Xiaoqiao, knelt down, and helped her up, saying, “Are you alright?”
Yang Xiaoqiao shook her head, tears streaming down relentlessly.
The brush with death had moved her deeply.
Seeing her face, as tender as peach blossoms, tear-stained, Ye Xiong’s heart ached.
He could never bear to see a woman’s tears, so he reached out, wiped her tears away, and then said, “I’m sorry you had to suffer.”
Without his saying it, it would have been fine, but his words made Yang Xiaoqiao feel even sadder.
Seemingly gathering courage from nowhere, Yang Xinyi suddenly embraced him tightly.
His body was so robust and his embrace so strong that holding her, Yang Xiaoqiao felt incredibly safe, as if she need not fear even if the sky fell down.
In her mind, she remembered the towering figure of the soldier who had saved her father when she was a child.
In that moment, Ye Xiong’s image completely overlapped with that man.
“Are you a soldier?” Yang Xiaoqiao suddenly asked.
Ye Xiong, not understanding why she would suddenly ask that, nodded: “Yes, I am a soldier.”
“Which unit are you with?”
“Huaxia Dragon Group, Reaper Squad,” Ye Xiong said.
Even though Reaper Squad no longer existed.
“How impressive are you in the Dragon Group?” Yang Xiaoqiao asked.
“The number one expert in the entire Dragon Group.”
Hearing him say this, Yang Xiaoqiao hugged him even tighter.
Suddenly, she lifted her head and kissed Ye Xiong, clumsy and fervent.
The unexpected assault left Ye Xiong completely bewildered.
Although he liked Yang Xiaoqiao and was attracted to her beauty, he felt their relationship had not yet reached this level!
Why did she suddenly kiss me?
This isn’t logical!
But at that moment, he couldn’t afford to think too much; Yang Xiaoqiao’s clumsy kiss stirred his passion.
He responded gently.
After what felt like forever, Yang Xiaoqiao eventually let go of his mouth unwillingly and took deep breaths.
Her cheeks flushed, her eyes sparkled as she gazed bravely at Ye Xiong.
“You did something wrong, do you know that?” said Ye Xiong.
“I know it was wrong, but I don’t regret it,” Yang Xiaoqiao stubbornly replied.
“All right, don’t be silly.”
Ye Xiong tidied up her disheveled hair and brushed the dust off her body, saying, “Let’s go!”
“Are we just going to leave those two like this?”
Yang Xiaoqiao glanced at the two possibly dead gang members on the ground, somewhat worried.
“Don’t worry, they’re not dead, and even if they were, this kind of trash—die a hundred times, it doesn’t matter.”
Given Ye Xiong’s identity and his contributions to the Jiangnan City Police Bureau, it wouldn’t be a problem if he merely injured two gang members, let alone killed them.
Thereupon, he took out his phone and called Huang Weifu, the police chief, asking him to send someone over to handle the situation.
Huang Weifu promptly nodded in agreement to the trivial matter.
After hanging up the phone, Yang Xiaoqiao was even more astonished.
Initially, she thought that Ye Xiong might be a kept man for being able to marry Yang Xinyi.
But now, she realized just how ridiculous her guess was.
Could a man with such formidable fighting skills, who could call the police station and make the police chief repeatedly agree, be a freeloader?
Exiting the dilapidated house, Ye Xiong asked, “Do you want to go home now?”
Yang Xiaoqiao began to nod, then quickly shook her head and said, “I’m hungry, can you treat me to a meal?”
“Of course, that’s no problem!”
The two went to a restaurant for a meal, where Ye Xiong ordered the tomato and eggs because Mother Yang had said Xiao Qiao loved it the most.
After the meal, when Ye Xiong was about to take her home, Yang Xiaoqiao’s eyes reddened and she hesitated whether to speak.
“I want to go drinking, could you accompany me?” she suddenly blurted out.
A girl asking a man to go drinking, what does that imply?
Alcohol easily stimulates the nerves and hormones. If Ye Xiong accompanied her, he could imagine what might happen next.
Ye Xiong patted her shoulder and said, “Find a good job, and then invite me for a drink when you’ve got one.”
Yang Xiaoqiao didn’t expect him to refuse; her hint couldn’t have been clearer.
Before, she always thought he was led by lust, but now it seemed she had been mistaken.
This man’s heart was much purer than his mouth.
“I apologize for what Tang Ning said, and I hope you won’t hold it against her,” said Ye Xiong, who had come to utter these very words.
“I know she did it because of her cousin, afraid that I would become the other woman,” Yang Xiaoqiao said softly.
“You are not the other woman, nobody is anybody’s other woman,” Ye Xiong looked at her intently and said solemnly, “because, Yang Xinyi and I have never been married, we’re both free individuals right now.”
“Really?” Yang Xiaoqiao shook all over, asking excitedly.
“The car is here, let’s go!”
After pushing Yang Xiaoqiao onto the car and watching her leave, Ye Xiong sighed and then hailed a cab home.
He was very clear about Yang Xiaoqiao’s implication just now; if he wanted, it was very likely that she would be his tonight.
But he didn’t do it, because Yang Xiaoqiao was at her most emotionally vulnerable, and to take advantage of her now would feel like seizing an opportunity to exploit her.
He admitted that he wasn’t a good person, too sentimental. But there was one thing he could ensure: any woman who was with him was there willingly, not one was coerced.
If something really happened between him and Yang Xiaoqiao tonight, he didn’t want her to wake up tomorrow, or the day after, with regrets.
