My Wolf System -Rank-S

Chapter 9: Training And Fights

It was already evening, and no one had left the cafeteria. Tension hung in the air like a thick fog. Then the door opened again, and Commandant Glus stepped back inside, his face serious.

"It's been confirmed," he said firmly.

"It was an animal."

Gasps echoed through the room.

"An animal?" someone repeated in disbelief.

"Like… someone who can transform?"

"No way… I don't know anyone like that."

"Neither do I…"

Glus raised his hand for silence.

"Then it was most likely a wild animal. We've already searched the entire area."

A pause. Then:

"You're all allowed to leave for now."

Relief washed over some of the students, while others exchanged confused and suspicious looks. Glus walked over to the other commandants gathered near the side.

"We'll still proceed with the training tomorrow," he said quietly. "Those bite marks… maybe a bear?"

But Ilius shook his head slowly.

"No… the bite was too small. Too clean. I just… I can't identify it."

Mike heard their conversation from a distance. He felt a strange mix of relief and guilt.

What else was I supposed to do?

The images of what had happened replayed in his mind over and over again.

Back in the dorm room, there was only silence. Heavy, uneasy silence.

Until finally, Kad broke it with a whisper.

"Crazy, huh?"

He stared at the ceiling.

"Something like this… right in the first few days."

Mike didn't answer. He just stared blankly ahead, lost in thought.

And so, eventually, they all fell asleep.

But the next morning, Mike was suddenly awakened—

Giel shouted excitedly through the room:

"DAY 3! Finally, training begins! And… in just three days, we're going on our first mission! Isn't that way too fast?!"

Mike blinked sleepily and mumbled,

"Hm… probably just a simple mission."

Then—Ding!

1 new message from the system.

"The pup is learning. Each day, your strength grows."

"You are ready."

Reward received:

-? -? -?

Mike frowned.

"What's this? A reward… with question marks?"

But before he could think about it too much, a new choice popped up:

Accept?

Decline?

He hesitated.

"A reward for… what exactly?"

He glanced over at his friends, who were still groggy and half-asleep.

"Hey guys, I'm just heading to the bathroom real quick. We've still got a few hours before training."

He locked the bathroom door behind him, heart pounding. Then, he whispered:

"Accept…"

Quest accepted.

Teleportation in progress…

3… 2… 1…

A flash of light—then Mike was gone.

He slowly opened his eyes. Around him: a dense forest. In the middle, a clearing with a small flowing stream. It was quiet. Almost peaceful.

But then, a new message appeared:

NEW QUEST: Defeat the trolls to receive your reward.

Reward 1: One level up

Reward 2: Will be revealed after completion

(Side quest unlocked – details will be shown after the main quest is completed.)

And then they came—the trolls.

They emerged from a dark cave, massive and growling.

Objective: Defeat the trolls

Progress: 0/5 defeated

One of the trolls immediately charged at Mike.

Troll HP: 200

The troll swung its heavy club directly at him.

Mike dodged swiftly to the side.

"Wolf Strike!"

The troll was hit hard, stumbling back. But before Mike could react, another troll came from behind and struck him with its club, throwing him to the side.

"Aghhh!" Mike cried out.

HP: 120

He clenched his fists. He didn't have much magic left, and his stamina was low.

He had only one attack left he could use:

Pack Bite: uses Magic + Endurance

Wolf Strike: uses Endurance

He shouted:

"Pack Bite!"

Suddenly, two spectral wolves formed at his side.

"Go, boys!"

One wolf pounced on the wounded troll and finished him off before vanishing.

The second wolf lunged at the troll who had injured Mike, biting its club and knocking it from its hands.

Mike saw his chance.

He stood up, leapt into the air, and with all his strength—

BOOM!

A direct hit to the troll's face.

2/5 trolls defeated

But then—the remaining three trolls charged in together.

Were things about to get difficult for Mike?

One of them landed a solid blow with its club, knocking Mike off his feet. Then the second struck, and Mike tumbled to the ground, gasping.

The third troll raised its weapon high, ready to crush him—

But Mike, now burning with fury, moved faster.

With a single, powerful punch—

CRACK!

The troll collapsed, lifeless.

3/5 trolls defeated

Mike staggered back, breathing heavily.

He looked down at his status:

HP: 50

Status: Wounded

Mike took a deep breath, then ran forward and kicked a troll straight in the stomach.

Troll HP: 45

Status: Paralyzed

"Paralyzed?" Mike wondered.

"I must've really gotten stronger…"

He pulled his fist back—and with full force—slammed it into the troll's face.

4/5 trolls defeated

The last troll roared and rushed at him.

But this time, Mike didn't run.

He planted his feet, focused, and took a defensive stance.

The troll swung its club—BOOM—

Mike managed to block the attack!

He looked at his stamina:

Endurance: 10

Just enough for one last move.

He struck the troll in the face, stunning it. Then he jumped high into the air and shouted:

"WOLF STRIKE!"

CRACK! A direct hit from above.

5/5 trolls defeated

Side Quest Available

Accept Side Quest?

Mike looked at his now fully recovered stats. He took a breath.

"Yeah… let's do it."

He pressed YES.

Side Quest Activated:

TROLL KING

Objective: Defeat the Troll King

Status: 0/1

Difficulty: Hard

Mike stared at the words on the screen.

"Oh man… what have I just agreed to?"

"Can I really beat a Troll King?"

His heart was pounding.

And from deep within the cave…

A massive growl echoed through the forest.

The true fight was about to begin.

And then he appeared—

The Troll King.

He was massive, his skin a deep red, unlike the green of the others. A crooked crown sat on his head, and a long scar stretched across his stomach.

Before Mike could even react, the Troll King lunged forward with incredible speed and slammed him into the ground.

"Shit…"

Mike groaned as he pulled himself out of the dirt and stood up again, bruised but not broken.

The Troll King charged, swinging his massive hands—

Trying to grab Mike—

But Mike dodged and blocked just in time.

Mike jumped high into the air.

"Wait… can I actually stack attacks?"

He didn't think—he acted.

"WOLF STRIKE!"

"WOLF STRIKE!!"

"WOLF STRIKE!!!"

Boom! Boom! Boom!

All three hits landed, smashing into the Troll King one after the other.

Mike fell to one knee.

His stamina was almost gone.

But the Troll King…

He looked shaken. Not defeated—but definitely weaker.

Mike shouted:

"PACK BITE!"

But this time, he didn't move.

Instead, he let the wolves fight.

The first wolf rushed in—only to be grabbed mid-leap and torn apart by the Troll King.

The second wolf was faster—biting into the Troll King's arm and holding on.

Troll King HP: 20

Mike HP: 55

They were both one good hit away from falling.

The Troll King charged.

Mike charged back.

Both raised their fists—

CRASH!

Their punches collided mid-air, sending out a shockwave through the forest.

Then—Mike spun and, with his second hand, drove a punch straight into the Troll King's gut.

Thud.

The king fell.

Troll King Defeated: 1/1

Note: "Respect, Player Wolf."

Mike caught his breath, staring at the system window.

"No reward?"

"WHAT?! That fight nearly killed me and I don't even get—"

Then he saw it.

Right where the Troll King had fallen…

A sword.

It looked sharp, its handle brown, and its blade plain—but powerful.

Inventory: 2/20

Space Remaining: 18 Slots

Mike slowly approached and picked it up.

A portal opened before him.

Mike stepped through — and suddenly, he was back in the bathroom. The air was still, as if nothing had happened. He glanced at the wall clock. Only three minutes had passed?

Relieved, he thought, Time must move differently in that forest.

He took a deep breath, straightened up, and walked out of the bathroom.

Outside, Kad and Giel were already chatting. Mike joined in casually, hiding what he'd just been through. Time passed quickly, and soon the group was heading toward the cafeteria.

There stood Glus, waiting for them with his arms crossed, his expression serious.

"Training begins today," he announced. "You'll be working in teams — with your roommates as your partners."

A few students murmured, some nodded with anticipation.

"Follow me. We're heading to the training grounds."

They followed him outside — and finally, they saw it: the massive training field.

It was enormous. Much bigger than anything they had imagined.

Scattered across the area were:

Combat dummies in all shapes and sizes,

Targets for ranged practice,

A large obstacle course with climbing walls, ropes, and moving platforms,

Training machines that adjusted in real-time — some even seemed to talk.

And then, one section stood out:

A large sign read: "Simulation Arena – Challenge a Friend"

A real combat simulator where students could fight one another in a safe but intense environment.

"I have a feeling I know who wants to fight first…"

The tension in the air rose.

"Alright then," said Mike.

With a low hum, a digital field flickered to life. The world around them dissolved — they were now standing in a rocky canyon, surrounded by bare stone, the sky above dark and ominous.

As soon as the signal sounded, Giel was already on the move. He focused his energy, his feet barely touching the ground as he shot toward Mike. Magic glowed in his fists.

"Gravity Blast!"

Mike was hit by an invisible wave. His legs were swept out from under him, and he slammed into the ground — but he managed to roll away just in time.

"Not bad," he muttered.

He got back on his feet, clenched his fists, and his eyes sparked.

"Wolf Strike!"

In a flash, he was in front of Giel, striking with full force. The blow landed on Giel's side — he gasped, but immediately stood up again.

Suddenly, Mike felt like he was made of lead. Every movement became heavy. He dropped to his knees, sweat dripping from his brow.

"If you give up now, it's over," Giel said seriously.

But Mike slowly raised his head. His voice was calm.

"I'm not giving up."

Willpower Surge activated – Strength and Speed increased for a short time

With a sudden burst, Mike broke through the gravity field, dashed forward — his movements fast as the wind. He kicked Giel in the shin, followed by a sharp left hook.

Giel fell, but rolled and sprang right back up. Both were panting.

Giel raised his hands, gathering mana. Small orbs of gravity floated above him. The spheres launched toward Mike. He ducked under one, leapt to the side, and charged straight at Giel.

"Pack Bite!"

Two ghostly wolves appeared at Mike's side. One was destroyed mid-leap — Giel had reacted — but the second made it through and sank its teeth into Giel's upper arm.

Giel screamed in pain, staggering.

Mike didn't hesitate. He jumped.

Two solid punches — one to the gut, one to the chest. Giel was thrown against a rock wall. The simulation froze.

Combat ended.

Winner: Mike Tyl

Performance Rating: A-

Giel stood up, took a deep breath, and grinned.

"Okay… that was more than I expected."

Mike reached out his hand.

"You're fast. That could've gone either way."

Giel took his hand and smirked.

"If that's what you're capable of… then you're definitely not a normal Sal-2."

Whispers spread among the onlookers.

"What were those abilities? I thought he only had strength…"

"He summoned wolves. That's magic, isn't it?"

"But he doesn't usually use any."

Summon Magic

Meanwhile, with Kad and Lasa:

They stood off to the side on a padded section of the training area.

Lasa moved lightly on her feet, then gestured to Kad.

"Watch—you're putting too much force into your first strike," she said.

"Try to control with movement, not just brute power."

She demonstrated: block, sidestep, a swift strike to the solar plexus.

Kad tried, but stumbled a bit.

"Ugh… I'm not really built for finesse."

Lasa smiled.

"That's okay. You've got strength. Let me show you how to blend it with technique. Strength and precision."

Kad nodded.

For the first time in days, he seemed focused. Calm.

He trusted her.

Hey Mike, what were those wolves in the simulation?"

Giel couldn't shake the image from his mind. The way they appeared—almost real.

They were walking back from training, the evening sun low in the sky.

Should Mike tell him everything now?

Even he wasn't sure what to say.
