Chapter 8: The Pokémon Economy Awakens
Chapter Title: The Pokémon Economy Awakens
After feeding and tucking in the drowsy Shiwanzi into a Luxury Ball, Rasa sank into his system, his mind alight with plans. First, he placed Larvitar and Shiwanzi into his bond slots. Both were still at LV1 and couldn't yet provide any bonuses, but seeing two bond slots filled filled him with satisfaction.
On the system's main page, the achievement icon glowed invitingly, so Rasa clicked on it. Three achievements were already lit up: "Novice Trainer," "Emerging Master," and "The Birth of a Champion."
Novice Trainer: Obtain your first Pokémon, Reward: 100 Poké Coins. Emerging Master: Possess a near-divine (pseudo-legendary) Pokémon, Reward: 1× 40% Off Coupon in the Shop. The Birth of a Champion: Possess a 6 IV Pokémon, Reward: 1× Mega Stone (choice) and 1× Keystone.
Rasa claimed his rewards immediately, selecting the Mega Stone for Tyranitar. Then, he opened the lottery interface. Until now, Rasa hadn't used the lottery feature of the system. Aware of his perennial misfortune with red rewards—resorting only to the guaranteed baseline—he always set his sights on the coveted orange rewards. In particular, the Habitat Scrolls were of great interest: once applied, they would transform 1,000 square kilometers into a thriving ecosystem, where Pokémon would naturally flourish. In the Pokémon Shop, Habitat Scrolls were exorbitantly priced—even the lowest-grade green Habitat cost 100,000 Poké Coins (equivalent to tens of millions in local currency). With his current coin balance, Rasa couldn't afford such luxury, so he was more drawn to the lottery.
"All in!" he thought. "If I can pull an orange Habitat Scroll like those for Lake Xinqi or Lake Lizhi, my fortunes will soar!"
"I'm going for a ten-draw," Rasa decided, rubbing his hands together and mentally clicking the ten-draw button. Before his eyes, a large spinning wheel flashed by in a blur of light—white lights, white lights, white lights… and then blue? Nine white outcomes and one blue outcome flashed before him.
"Could it be… my luck has finally turned? Am I becoming a royal?" Rasa wondered, his heart pounding with excitement.
He reviewed the ten outcomes one by one: 4× Poké Balls, 2× Super Balls, 2× Healing Potions, 1× Antidote, and 1× Blue-Quality Pokémon Egg. He clicked on the egg's information—it was a Kettle Pokémon Egg (Blue). Although the Kettle Pokémon also belonged to the Rock type, it wasn't part of Rasa's planned team. The Kettle Pokémon had a base stat total of 505, with an extraordinary combined Defense (230), making it a standout in terms of bulk. However, its other stats—HP, Attack, Sp. Atk, and Speed—were dismal at 20, 10, 10, and 5, respectively. Still, as a support Pokémon, Kettle had its merits. It could learn Guard Split and Power Split, skills that—when used on allies and foes respectively, combined with its ability to neutralize enemy traits via a "Gastric Juice" move—could shatter opponents' morale. Pokémon moves had proven effective against ninjas, making Kettle a dreaded counter to any physical trainers.
Then, a flash of inspiration struck Rasa. "Kettle isn't just a battle asset—it can be used for juicing!" He realized that by placing fruit inside Kettle's shell, the fruit would dissolve into juice. In the harsh desert of the Wind Country, access to fresh juice was a luxury. The system shop sold edible fruit for Pokémon at 10 pieces per 4 Poké Coins—roughly 40 local currency per fruit. Selling a glass of juice for 80 units wouldn't be unreasonable, especially since Kettle's naturally fermented juice would be all-natural and even more delicious. Rasa could already envision a booming market for his very own "Pokémon Economy."
Staring fixedly at the Kettle Pokémon Egg, Rasa's eyes glittered with golden dreams—as if he were seeing piles of cash raining down. And it wasn't just Kettle; there were other Pokémon with strong commercial potential! Determined, Rasa resolved to map out a grand strategy to create a thriving "Pokémon Economy" in the ninja world. Since Poké Coins had to be topped up with local currency—and Rasa had been fretting over funds—this discovery was a godsend. At six years old, his Magnetic Release wasn't sufficient for mining, and the path of the "Golden Miner" was still out of reach. And ninjas? Their earnings barely even covered the cost of a single Poké Egg. Kettle's emergence showed Rasa the road to wealth, national prosperity, and village strength!
His first ten-draw had produced a blue-quality result—proof that fate favored him. Elated, Rasa immediately initiated another ten-draw. This time, nine white outcomes and one green outcome appeared. "No, not yet—try again!" he muttered, pressing the button repeatedly. After eight consecutive rounds of nine white and one green, Rasa's face had turned as green as the light outcome itself. On the ninth try—already at the guarantee threshold for a blue reward—Rasa's trembling hand clicked for a tenth ten-draw. The wheel spun, and as expected, it yielded 8 white, 1 green, and 1 blue outcome. Rasa had spent 9,900 Poké Coins, leaving a balance of 1,100.
Satisfied, he began reviewing all his prizes. In 100 draws, he'd obtained a total of 89 white, 10 green, and 1 blue items. The white items included various Poké Balls—regular, advanced, Luxury, and Healing Balls—plus healing agents such as potions, antidotes, and burn remedies, along with products like Moo-Moo Fresh Milk, Vitality Shards, Energy Blocks, and small energy supplements. The green items consisted of: 2× Fire Stones, 1× Thunder Stone, 1× Awakening Stone, 2× Green Skill Discs, 3× Metallic Membranes, and 1× Miracle Seed.
And then came the blue-quality prize—a scroll. Unbelievably, it was a Habitat Scroll!
Habitat Scroll (Blue): Once activated, this scroll transforms 1,000 square kilometers of land into a thriving Pokémon habitat, complete with a self-sustaining ecosystem.
Rasa's excitement exploded. "I knew I wasn't cursed!" he cheered, elated that even though no purple-quality rewards appeared, the Habitat Scroll was a true jackpot. With this, his investment would pay off in spades.
He opened the map and focused on the Wind Country region, where countless markers indicated lands that could be converted into Pokémon habitats. Most of these lands were deserts, sand dunes, rocky mountains, mining areas, or caverns—with only a few being oases. Sunagakure's tight budget meant that while high-ranking and clan ninjas could afford the cost of Pokémon food, the majority of the village's civilians could not. Thus, Pokémon that could survive on little more than soil were the ideal candidates for Rasa's plan to popularize Pokémon in Sunagakure.
In the habitat, the highest-quality Pokémon that could naturally develop would be of blue quality; therefore, the purple-quality Golem (or equivalent) wasn't even considered. Instead, species like Rhyhorn, Dugtrio, Bellossom, and the mighty Roggenrola were the top picks. Bellossom, capable of rooting itself and photosynthesizing for survival, combined with the soil-mining expertise of the other three, made for an ideal ensemble. Rasa selected a desert area that featured a small oasis—its presence promising enhanced species diversity in the habitat. The total area of the habitat would be 1,000 square kilometers, roughly 50 kilometers from Sunagakure. In fact, traveling directly for about 17 kilometers from Sunagakure could lead one to witness the thriving ecosystem.
With a decisive click, Rasa activated the Habitat Scroll. In a burst of golden light, the scroll vanished, and in that very instant, a surge of natural energy erupted on the western edge of the Wind Country. Tens of thousands of Pokémon, new desert flora, and fresh underground ores appeared simultaneously across the ninja world. The area was remote and uninhabited—no one noticed the phenomenon. Moreover, aside from those attuned to natural energy, ninjas couldn't even sense the disturbance. Thus, the ninja world's very first Pokémon Habitat was completed unnoticed.
Rasa named it Blue Habitat #1 – Moses Habitat. A blue light dot now shone on the map, allowing Rasa to review its status:
Moses Habitat (Blue):
Rhyhorn Cluster Sandslash Cluster Dugtrio Cluster Bellossom Cluster Roggenrola Cluster Camarupt Cluster Nido King Cluster Nido Queen Cluster
The diversity of Pokémon in Moses Habitat far exceeded Rasa's expectations, with many powerful species present! Camarupt, Bellossom, Nido King, and Nido Queen concentrated around the oasis, likely due to the water source. Numerous Pokémon perfectly suited for Sunagakure's environment were now within his reach, and Rasa immediately began plotting the future.
