Naruto: Awakening Eternal Power with My Eye Techniques

Chapter 122: A Shift in Perspective

Therefore, when Shiyu Uchiha decided to leave the village for his journey, although he carried the wish to change the outcome of the "White Fang's suicide" incident, actually saving Sakumo Hatake posed enormous challenges with little chance of success. In his eyes, Sakumo's suicide was mainly due to internal causes—the collapse of his beliefs.

Another factor was that if he truly attempted to save Sakumo Hatake, he would inevitably become a key surveillance target for the F4 [Konoha's Inner Council], who would do everything in their power to stop him. Considering Shiyu Uchiha's strength at that time, he would inevitably find himself in life-threatening danger. He had zero intention of laying down his life for someone else.

Even if he managed to keep Sakumo Hatake alive by some stroke of luck, there was still no certainty the latter would support his vision for reform. If Sakumo opposed him, this powerful ninja at the peak of his prime would undoubtedly become the greatest obstacle standing in the way of Shiyu Uchiha's rise to power within Konoha.

This wasn't merely a matter of personal feelings but rather one rooted in fundamental faith and conviction. Sakumo Hatake was clearly a man who placed faith above everything else—perhaps only Kakashi Hatake would be an exception.

Moreover, after Shiyu Uchiha mastered Man and Blade Unity, the revolutionary intent hidden within his sword techniques might very likely be sensed by Sakumo, who was also highly skilled in blade arts. At that point, Sakumo's reaction and decisions would become unpredictable.

In addition, aiding Sakumo might trigger a series of complex consequences, potentially even dragging the entire Uchiha Clan into turmoil and creating the slightest chance of sparking an internal war within Konoha.

At present, Uchiha Shizhi's physical condition was not good. If his mother became caught up in the fallout from his actions, it would be an unforgivable mistake. Shiyu Uchiha absolutely refused to allow such a situation to occur. Once conflict broke out, no matter the outcome, his mother's life would be in grave danger.

Thus, back then, after much consideration, he had originally decided not to save Sakumo Hatake. Instead, he intended to let the Hokage lineage reap what they had sown while seeking opportunities to deliver fatal blows to Konoha's upper echelons. As for the gratitude he owed for Sakumo teaching him sword techniques, Shiyu Uchiha planned to repay it through Kakashi.

However, as time passed and his strength improved, so too did Shiyu Uchiha's confidence. He formed deep bonds with many people, relationships that caused him to repeatedly re-examine his inner world.

Especially after his spiritual energy reached a whole new level of power, he finally saw the truth in his heart—protecting those who mattered most and keeping their lives safe and peaceful. The change didn't happen overnight—it took time, pain, and deep thinking to set in.

Now, Shiyu Uchiha fully understood that only through his own strength and wisdom could he create a safe and stable living environment for his family. Today, he was willing to pay any price for that goal—even his life itself.

Sakumo Hatake had once guided his sword techniques and was a respected elder. If he couldn't extend a helping hand when this person was in trouble, then in his eyes, his dream of changing everything would merely be an excuse for ambition—no different from the F4 [Konoha's Inner Council].

In fact, the fundamental reason why Uchiha Clan member Shiyu eventually underwent such a transformation was simply because he had grown stronger and therefore more confident. This was actually a common flaw among members of the Uchiha Clan after awakening the Mangekyou Sharingan. To some extent, Shiyu also displayed signs of it.

Just thinking about it filled him with burning excitement. Therefore, to clear his mind and find peace within, Shiyu Uchiha decided to give it his all in one attempt—regardless of the outcome—as long as he left behind no regrets.

As for whether Sakumo Hatake might become an obstacle to his future path toward becoming the Hokage—the village's leader—Shiyu now believed he could carve his own path forward through sheer strength.

As a ninja of Konoha, upon returning to the village, the first thing one should do is report to the Hokage Tower to complete mission debriefing. Although Shiyu had officially left on his journey under the pretense of a mission assignment, at minimum, he still needed to show respect to the Third Hokage.

However, this wasn't quite the right timing now. Shiyu had something far more important to attend to. He headed straight to the Hatake household and arrived just in time to overhear a conversation between Sakumo Hatake and his son Kakashi.

Kakashi stepped into the room visibly flustered, his eyes darting and lips trembling slightly. The reason for his unease was simple—the topic outside involved the person he respected most, the father who served as his life's guiding beacon.

His voice trembled with nervousness and fear as he stammered, "Father…outside…they're all saying…"

Sakumo Hatake lifted his head, his gaze gentle yet firm. He raised his hand and softly patted Kakashi's shoulder, signaling him to calm down. Then, speaking as calmly as possible, he asked, "Kakashi, tell me, what matters more—your comrades, or the village?"

At just eight years old, Kakashi lowered his head and fell into deep thought. To him, it was an impossible question. His brows furrowed tightly, his eyes filled with confusion and internal struggle. After a short pause, he slowly looked up, eyes reflecting a complex mixture of emotions.

Eventually, after recalling many villagers' hateful faces, he gritted his teeth and answered with visible inner conflict: "We are ninjas. I think completing missions should be more important."

Though Kakashi was a genius, his life had barely begun. His understanding of the world remained limited, lacking sufficient experience to truly distinguish right from wrong. What he'd been taught—that as a ninja, a warrior of Konoha, the mission always came first—was drilled into him without exception.

Besides, Kakashi disliked those condemning his father, especially hating that man whom his father had saved, yet who now harbored nothing but hatred in return. That was why he chose to say the mission mattered more.

In truth, what he really wanted to say was that saving such people simply wasn't worth it. His father should have abandoned that person and completed the mission instead. But overwhelmed by emotion, his words came out less precise than intended.

Yet deep down, Kakashi was tormented by inner conflict and confusion. What he truly wanted was for his father—the man he respected most—to explain why he had done it.

Kakashi's answer only deepened the sense of inevitable tragedy already growing in Sakumo's heart. Taking a deep breath, he forced a faint smile before replying to Kakashi, "Alright, I understand."

"You can go now. I need some time alone."

Kakashi didn't wait for Sakumo Hatake's response. Following Sakumo Hatake's instruction, after only a brief hesitation, he nodded and obeyed, turning around to walk out of the room. He even closed the door gently behind him.

Leaving Sakumo Hatake alone in the darkness, seated and lost in a whirlwind of thoughts.
