Naruto Birdcage

Chapter 96: Ch 96 : Savior

Makoto only appeared so immense in everyone's eyes due to the mirage effect; what they saw was nothing more than an infinitely magnified illusion.

Additionally, he used vibrations to project his voice across the entire battlefield.

However, his arrival brought immense confidence to the Konoha ninjas, allowing them to see a glimmer of hope for victory on this life-or-death battlefield!

"Tricks! It's all just tricks!" someone from the Kumo Ninja side shouted angrily.

"It's an illusion! It's fake! Attack him!"

Upon hearing the command, the Kumo Ninjas immediately launched their ninjutsu or threw ninja tools, aiming to shatter Makoto's illusion.

Seeing the overwhelming wave of incoming attacks, Makoto smirked coldly in his heart.

In the previous battle, the Kumo Ninjas had been completely annihilated, and their enemies had no knowledge of his true abilities.

This course of action played right into his hands.

With a wave of his hand, the incoming ninja tools were instantly seized by his power, neatly suspended in the air, and then began spinning rapidly around him.

The incoming Lightning Release techniques met the same fate; they halted just before reaching him, and all the lightning energy was absorbed into the ninja tools, causing arcs of electricity to dance across the metal blades.

"Die!"

Makoto's voice echoed through the heavens and earth as the ninja tools high above rained down with terrifying momentum, overwhelming the Kumo Ninjas below.

"Ah—!"

"Help! Help!"

A fierce wind raged as a torrential downpour of shuriken swept across the battlefield with terrifying force, instantly leaving the Kumo Ninjas' corpses scattered everywhere.

"Kill the enemy!" Makoto commanded in a deep voice.

The Konoha ninjas responded in unison, "Kill the enemy!"

"Slaughter the Kumo Ninjas!"

Their voices resounded through the entire mountain range, shaking the very earth beneath them.

To the Kumo Ninjas, however, it sounded like a death knell, a deafening and inescapable doom.

They gazed at the god-like figure in the sky and his unfathomable abilities, their hearts filled with growing fear.

What kind of power was this, possessing abilities beyond mortal comprehension?

The once disadvantaged Konoha forces were now surging with newfound strength from an unknown source, launching a relentless counterattack.

In an instant, the Kumo Ninjas found themselves being driven back in defeat, struggling to hold their ground.

Seeing that the momentum was in his favor, Makoto struck while the iron was hot, gathering countless fireballs in the sky above.

From a distance, it seemed as if they were about to engulf the entire Kikyo Mountain!

Of course, Makoto couldn't actually achieve such a grand spectacle.

He merely conjured a few massive fireballs around himself and then used mirage techniques to replicate and spread them across the sky, creating the illusion of an overwhelming sea of flames.

The scene was utterly breathtaking.

To those below, it appeared as if the apocalypse had arrived, with the sky about to rain fire down upon them!

Even Fugaku's heart surged with excitement at this moment, and he roared in fury, "Everyone, slaughter the Kumo Ninjas!"

"Slaughter the Kumo Ninjas!"

The Kumo Ninjas were utterly terrified; some stood frozen in place, paralyzed by fear and unable to move.

Makoto manipulated the fireballs around him, sending them plummeting toward the Kumo Ninjas below.

The ground trembled as they struck, leaving deep craters in their wake.

"Retreat! Retreat now!"

Finally, the Kumo Ninja commander could no longer withstand the psychological pressure.

With terror filling his eyes, he shouted desperately.

"Retreat!"

"Fall back!"

Though the command had only just been given, the Kumo Ninjas were already fleeing in panic, their formation collapsing in an instant.

Sensing victory, the Konoha forces surged out of their stronghold in pursuit of the retreating enemy.

Makoto did his best to hurl fireballs down at them, expanding their area of impact as much as possible.

To maintain the illusion, he continued projecting mirages of fireballs raining down.

However, an illusion is still just an illusion.

Some Kumo Ninjas, initially overwhelmed by fear, found themselves surrendering to despair as the fireballs appeared to descend.

But just as the flames were about to hit the ground, they suddenly vanished without a trace.

Before they could react, countless Konoha ninjas charged forward and cut them down.

Boom!

Another violent gust of wind swept through, making it difficult for many to keep their eyes open.

Some Kumo Ninjas panicked and fled in disorder, while others attempted to fight while retreating, only to be quickly overtaken by Konoha's forces.

Makoto maintained the mirage, while his real body swiftly moved to Shikaku's side.

The moment he landed, his legs nearly gave out, and he almost collapsed to the ground.

The towering giant in the sky finally vanished, along with the fiery rain that once filled the heavens.

Some Kumo Ninjas realized something was wrong, but by then, the situation was beyond salvation.

Gritting their teeth, they could only choose to temporarily retreat from the battlefield.

"Don't let everyone pursue too far," Makoto said, panting heavily to Shikaku and Inoichi.

Hearing Makoto's words, Shikaku nodded and immediately used Inoichi's secret technique to transmit the order into the minds of every Konoha ninja.

Makoto leaned against the wall and sat down to rest.

Shikaku approached to check on him, and Makoto weakly said,

"I'm fine, just exhausted from using too much chakra. Do you have any water?"

Shikaku handed him a water bottle and then went back to oversee the battlefield.

Makoto sat there for about ten minutes before he finally stood up wearily, supporting himself against the wall as he walked to the window and looked outside.

The sounds of war had finally ceased, and the Kumo Ninjas had retreated from Kikyo Mountain, leaving even more bodies behind as they fled.

This battle had been extremely brutal—rivers of blood flowed across the land, and the scars of combat were everywhere.

Makoto let out a long sigh and asked, "Where is Minato-senpai?"

Shikaku remained silent for a moment before replying, "There's still no news of Minato."

Otherwise, this battle wouldn't have been so difficult.

Minato had gone alone to intercept the Kumo Ninjas, and he had yet to return.

Makoto simply said that Minato-senpai would surely be fine.

After the battle, many were so exhausted that they sat or lay on the ground, breathing heavily.

Though the air was thick with the stench of blood and dust, it carried the scent of survival and victory.

Shikaku didn't rush to have everyone clean up the battlefield, instead allowing them some time to rest.

Makoto slowly walked out of the fortress, and the nearby ninjas, upon seeing him, immediately stood up, their faces filled with excitement.

"Lord Makoto!"

"Lord Makoto?!"

Hearing the voices, more and more people turned to look his way, calling out his name.

"Lord Makoto!"

"Long live Lord Makoto!"

"Lord Makoto!"

The chant spread like an unstoppable wave across the battlefield.

Standing alone atop the fortress, Makoto found himself surrounded by countless Konoha ninjas, all gazing at him with admiration and reverence.

For the first time, Makoto experienced the feeling of standing in the spotlight, basking in the glory of being seen as a savior by all.

This was a feeling that Minato had experienced before, and so had Orochimaru.

Inside the fortress, Shikaku watched Makoto with a complicated expression.

He was not only proficient in governance but also possessed such overwhelming strength...

Most importantly, he was far too young—young enough to be terrifying!

Shikaku let out a long sigh and turned to Inoichi, saying, "We should send another squad to search for Minato's whereabouts later."

Meanwhile, Rin, who was busy treating the wounded, suddenly heard the crowd's cheering.

She couldn't help but look in the direction of the voices and saw Makoto surrounded by people, receiving their admiration and gratitude like a shining star in the night sky.

"Rin?"

Obito called out to her.

"Huh?"

"What are you looking at?"

Hearing this, Rin gestured toward Makoto's direction.

Obito sighed and said, "We really owe it to Makoto this time. I never imagined he was this strong. I need to work even harder."

Rin then asked, "Where's Kakashi?"

Obito replied, "Not sure. He should've come back with Makoto. Someone that strong will definitely be fine."

"Hmm... that's good to hear."
