Naruto Birdcage

Chapter 98: Ch 98 : Kushina's resolve

The seemingly impressive power that Makoto displayed earlier was, in the end, just a bluff.

It was an effect deliberately created by him out of necessity.

The first time it was used, it could still scare people, but when it ended, the flaw became apparent.

After that, when fighting against the Kumo Ninjas, the enemy would certainly not fall for the same trick again.

His abilities were limited to floating in the air, throwing a few fireballs and ninja tools.

Individually, these could have a decent effect, but they couldn't turn the tide of battle.

Even the likes of Minato, Jiraiya, and Fugaku couldn't achieve that.

Ultimately, a single person's strength is limited.

The power gap between Konoha and the Kumo Ninjas, unless someone like Senju Hashirama or Uchiha Madara showed up, could only be bridged by the tailed beasts.

Or rather, people who could become jinchuriki.

But Kushina was not a perfect jinchuriki.

While she could use the Nine-Tails' chakra, it was chakra extracted from the Nine-Tails.

At best, she could achieve the Nine-Tails chakra mode like in the original story.

It wasn't the same as Naruto or Minato's Nine-Tails mode.

The only way she could become a full jinchuriki was to lift the restrictions on the Nine-Tails and allow it to dominate her body, causing a rampage, much like Naruto's out-of-control state.

But the consequences of doing this would be uncontrollable, just like the Nine-Tails itself.

Not to mention whether she could eventually suppress the Nine-Tails again, once the Nine-Tails took control of Kushina's body, it would undoubtedly target Konoha ninjas as its primary enemies, since it despised Konoha.

Alternatively, Kushina could face the Kumo Ninjas alone, but the outcome of that would be obvious.

While she might cause significant damage to the Kumo Ninjas, the inevitable result would be that the Nine-Tails would be captured by the enemy.

Minato would never allow that.

Before explaining his plan, Makoto asked Kushina to leave the room so that the Nine-Tails wouldn't overhear them.

Only Minato, Jiraiya, Fugaku, and Shikaku were left in the room.

Makoto said, "I can control the Nine-Tails."

Minato frowned, "What did you say?"

Makoto slowly explained, "Do you remember the battle we had with the Two-Tails jinchuriki?"

The three of them froze.

"I used a special genjutsu to alter the Two-Tails' perception, making it see its allies as enemies. That's why it went berserk and attacked its own comrades."

"Similarly, I can do the same thing to the Nine-Tails. It holds deep hatred towards Konoha, so I can make it see the Kumo Ninjas as us, or even erase us from its sight entirely."

Shikaku and Fugaku pondered this for a moment.

At first, this method seemed absurd, but after considering the earlier example with the Two-Tails, it seemed feasible.

Let Makoto control the Nine-Tails or deceive it.

Minato seemed very resistant and was about to say something in rebuttal.

Before he could speak, Makoto quickly interjected, "Minato-senpai, this is a do-or-die strategy. If we lose, have you considered what will happen to Lady Kushina?"

Minato's body stiffened.

"Not just Lady Kushina, but all the comrades in the village. If we lose, what will happen to them?"

"How do you think Lady Kushina would feel about that?"

Minato fell silent.

On one side, there was the village, comrades, and the entire country.

On the other, there was his lover.

Moreover, neither side was guaranteed to succeed.

It's not as if having the Nine-Tails' power would guarantee Konoha's victory, nor is it certain that letting Kushina take such a risk would necessarily lead to uncontrollable consequences.

Both sides had room for maneuver, allowing for a possibility to persist or an opportunity to withdraw.

The others in the room were also silent.

Minato, as the front-line commander and Kushina's lover, was the one who had to make the decision.

It wasn't up to them.

After a long silence, Minato finally asked, "After the Nine-Tails loses control, how do we suppress it?"

Makoto said, "You are skilled in sealing techniques, and with Senior Fugaku's Sharingan, it should be fine, right?"

Fugaku glanced at Makoto in surprise, wondering how he was involved in this matter.

Minato sighed deeply and lay back on the bed, not speaking anymore.

At this point, Shikaku said, "Minato, you should rest now."

Seeing this, the others also left.

Outside the room, Kushina, noticing everyone had come out, hesitated for a moment before walking back into the room.

As they were leaving, Fugaku suddenly approached Makoto and spoke softly,

"Makoto, you're really not afraid of anything."

"What do you mean, Senior Fugaku?"

Fugaku replied, "I just feel that everything you've done has been unexpected."

First, you urged Minato to abandon the border defense and retreat, and now you're advising Minato to send Kushina to the battlefield.

This guy really isn't afraid of offending anyone?

Makoto calmly said, "I'm just trying to win. Did I do something wrong, Senior Fugaku?"

These words left Fugaku unable to respond.

Makoto continued, "If my actions have earned anyone's dislike, then I can only say they're not on the same path as me. But I believe Senior Fugaku can understand me, right?"

Hearing this, Fugaku suddenly thought of the fates of Shimura Danzo and Hyuga Hiashi, and a chill ran down his spine.

He forced a smile and said, "In the end, we all fight for victory, for the village."

........

In the room.

Kushina walked in and sat beside Minato's bed.

She tilted her head and said, "What's wrong? You look so gloomy, that's not like you."

Minato intentionally put on a troubled expression, "I shouldn't be frowning, right?"

Kushina chuckled, "Your face looks like a bitter melon, and you're saying you're not frowning?"

Minato smiled, "You caught me."

Kushina rolled her eyes at him, then smiled brightly and asked, "What were you talking about just now?"

Minato replied, "It was nothing, just talking about you going to the battlefield."

Kushina guessed as much and nodded, then continued, "What do you think?"

Minato noticed that although her words were calm, her eyes were locked on him, unblinking.

He could tell she was very concerned and nervous.

Minato didn't hesitate, answering, "I think the same as you."

Kushina's expression relaxed instantly, and she lowered her head.

"Thank you, Minato..."

Minato's gaze flickered, and he said, "I should be the one thanking you. If we win this battle, it will be you who saved the village."

The conversation seemed to take a heavy turn, and the room fell silent.

Kushina looked at Minato again, then suddenly gave him a light slap and huffed, "Why are you thanking me? You're not even Hokage yet, and you're already acting like you're in the Hokage's position!"

Minato smiled bitterly, "Well, I'm the one in charge of the frontlines, so I think I should be able to say something like that."

Kushina stood up, crossed her arms over her chest, and pointed at Minato with an authoritative tone, "Your task right now is to get better quickly, lead us to win this war, and then hurry up and become Hokage. I can't become Hokage, but I want to be the Hokage's wife!"

Minato chuckled, "Yes, yes, I understand. I will definitely make you the Hokage's wife."
