Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Human Hearts
Mizuki's words made the two advisors and Danzo Shimura feel slightly embarrassed. In terms of chakra control ability alone, practically no one currently could match Mizuki's level—not even come close. This wasn't necessarily because Mizuki possessed extraordinary natural talent; rather, it was simply the result of deliberate practice combined with hard work.
Chakra control ability was something where effort mattered just as much as innate talent. Why were there actually very few ninja in the ninja world who excelled at this? Because for most, it simply wasn't necessary.
It's like someone wanting to see distant mountains clearly—a basic handheld telescope would suffice. Who would bother going that far to build an advanced telescope for such a purpose?
The situation within the ninja world was quite similar. Except for scholarly ninja like Orochimaru, or individuals like Kabuto Yakushi and Tsunade who genuinely required and utilized such skills, spending large amounts of time deeply training in chakra control wasn't practical. Even if someone truly mastered it as thoroughly as Mizuki did, what could they really accomplish with it? Become some sort of street entertainer? It'd be far more reliable to simply study high-level ninjutsu instead—at least visible strength improvements would be immediately apparent. The deeper a ninja delved into chakra control training, the harder progress became. It wasn't surprising that most ninja avoided this path altogether. Without proper guidance, one would find themselves stuck in a dead end, and even exceptional chakra control would amount to nothing but showy technique. Sakura Haruno being completely outclassed by Naruto Uzumaki—even though she had superior chakra control—before becoming Tsunade's apprentice was solid proof of this.
Another important factor often overlooked was this: those rare individuals truly gifted in chakra control tended to learn everything else quickly and easily, making them prime candidates for special cultivation wherever they went. Once reaching a certain point, shifting toward directions that more directly showcased their power became only natural.
Those who truly treated chakra control itself as their ultimate weapon and pushed it to the extreme were either rare prodigies, or people like Mizuki, who genuinely needed this level of chakra mastery. For ninja like Mizuki, while it sounded nice to say he had no weaknesses, in reality, he simply lacked any real strengths. If he didn't focus deeply on something as fundamental as chakra itself and fully leverage his intellectual strengths to achieve an unexpected breakthrough, he probably wouldn't have much of a future at all.
What followed next was that the atmosphere became somewhat awkward. Danzo Shimura stopped looking at Mizuki and fell silent, seemingly lost in his own thoughts. Koharu Utatane also asked no further questions. At least regarding this matter, the two advisors' views weren't entirely aligned with Danzo's. Ideally, letting the moderates take control would be best; failing that, preventing Danzo from gaining too much power and achieving his aims would still be acceptable. Ultimately, the village found itself in a difficult position here. Being implicated in forcefully seizing exclusive secret techniques and research achievements from a village ninja was taboo among all ninja organizations. Unless one belonged to a powerful clan like the Uchiha—feared for their immense strength but still doomed by their own rebellious schemes—they wouldn't suffer the fate of having their eyes gouged out and the entire clan destroyed. Even if such circumstances arose, someone like Danzo would only dare act in secret, away from public scrutiny. Something like this could never be done openly.
This kind of behavior would most likely provoke hostility from the ninja clans possessing various Kekkei Genkai and Secret Techniques. Secondarily, it would also anger you esteemed Jonin elites present here. Most of the truly valuable unique techniques were actually created through the painstaking efforts of this group. If stealing Secret Techniques becomes a common practice, those who'll suffer the greatest losses are none other than the ninja gathered here.
The transmission of Ninjutsu among ninja, aside from general basic techniques taught at places like the Ninja Academy, still depends largely on personal effort and the master-disciple inheritance tradition.
From every perspective, Secret Technique knowledge forms the very foundation and ace-in-the-hole for a ninja's standing. Forcefully seizing such knowledge easily breeds hatred. An unspoken rule exists: Whether I teach it or not is my decision alone, but you absolutely cannot steal it.
Seeing the tense silence, Mitokado Homura spoke up: "Is there no other way to make amends? If its practicality turns out being really poor, perhaps we should just drop this matter..."
"Mass production with current technology isn't really feasible," Mizuki shook his head, "the cost is simply too high. Originally, it was only discovered as a byproduct during a Ninjutsu experiment..." Since nobody could verify if he was lying right now anyway, telling a few half-truths wouldn't be a problem. The results of Ninjutsu experiments could sometimes be this arbitrary, with unexpected accidents occasionally leading to astonishing major discoveries.
"This matter ends here," Mitokado Homura decided. The other two elders expressed no objections either. Without having discovered the actual effects of the Omnipotence pills yet, it wasn't worth causing significant conflict over them. Considering the current leaderless situation, engaging in inappropriate actions that caused unnecessary friction should be minimized to avoid offending people excessively.
"There is some intelligence below which you need to confirm, since you're one of the few who witnessed Orochimaru's battle against the Third Hokage from beginning to end. The village requires more detailed information for verification..."
『Didn't they ask about the Artificial Jinchuriki? It seems that mere odd physical Clone Jutsu hasn't shown enough value to warrant much attention yet. Perhaps because of the earlier incident concerning the Omnipotent pill, they've abandoned further entanglement in trivial matters. That works fine—I'll have fewer troubles to deal with...』
Following that, based on observed intelligence from the scene and combining with certain memories originally belonging to this body, Mizuki took this opportunity to intentionally disclose additional pieces of information which Konoha previously couldn't possibly obtain. Some crucial intelligence shocked everyone present.
"You really heard Orochimaru say that he's not using a new body for the first time?" Koharu Utatane asked.
"Yes, I can confirm that," Mizuki replied.
Upon hearing Mizuki's confirmation, Koharu glanced toward Danzo Shimura, whose only response was a slight shake of his head.
Actually, previous intelligence already confirmed that Orochimaru possessed special means to restore youthfulness. However, under these circumstances, obviously what was involved wasn't a hastily applied Kinjutsu. Therefore, the Third Hokage's sacrifice of sealing Orochimaru's arms probably wouldn't restrict him for long either. Before long, even if not returning completely to his prime state, regaining most of his strength seemed quite possible.
Such a highly probable reality made everyone feel extremely troubled.
Mitokado Homura pondered for a moment and asked, "Do we have any intelligence on the Cursed Seals of Orochimaru's subordinates?"
Mizuki replied, "Although the specific details are unknown, judging by their appearance and usage, it should be possible to refer to Anko Mitarashi's and Sasuke Uchiha's Cursed Seals. They are likely the same thing, simply manifested differently."
