Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Encounter with the Cultists

After entering a border town in the Land of Hot Water, you immediately reunited with Boss Black Cat. The two of you, along with the cat, found a small inn to stay at temporarily.

Originally, you had sent Boss Black Cat out as a contingency plan—just in case your plans in Konoha failed. You would have been able to use the Reverse Summoning Technique to escape. However, it seems you underestimated your own strength.

Even among Kage-level ninja, there's a gap in power!

Not only did you take down Uchiha Itachi, you also exceeded expectations by completely wiping out the entire Root faction. And on a whim, you even abducted Konohamaru!

Because of that, you didn't bother having Boss Black Cat summon you back—you knew the Reverse Summoning couldn't carry two people anyway.

After using your Sharingan to lull Konohamaru back to sleep, you put down the large scroll-packed luggage you'd brought—priceless loot ransacked from Root, including two scrolls of sealing techniques. More than enough for you to digest over time.

〖Day Four〗

Late Night

Once Boss Black Cat helped you store all the materials within the ninja cat clan's vault, the two of you began exchanging information.

First, the basic situation in the Land of Hot Water: it lies northeast of the Land of Fire. It's a long, narrow country, separated from the massive peninsula under the jurisdiction of the Land of Lightning by just one nation. The country is full of volcanoes and hot springs, making tourism its primary industry. In fact, the country got its name because of this.

Although it has its own shinobi village, the Land of Hot Water is militarily weak and loosely organized. This makes it a haven for rogue ninja groups, cults, brothels, bounty hunters, and other shady elements.

To most ninja—who are essentially walking weapons—the place probably just looks like a scenic, resource-rich vacation spot. But the locals often have to rely on the limited might of the village's shinobi to barely maintain their livelihoods... sometimes even depending on local gangs.

Even so, when faced with something as extreme as a cult, it's not uncommon for entire towns to be wiped out in one go…

To you, the Land of Hot Water isn't so much a country as it is a black market resort disguised as one.

Because of this, interpersonal relationships here are incredibly complex. You'll even find noble families from other nations embedded within the local power structure. The web of connections is a tangled mess—even Boss Black Cat, with all his reconnaissance skills, couldn't lock onto the location of the ninja fighting arena you mentioned, even after arriving a day early.

That said, you didn't come up empty-handed.

So far, you've gathered three pieces of intel:

The ninja fighting arena is likely one of the major powers in the Land of Hot Water. Otherwise, there's no way it could afford to train ninja as gladiators or entertain such an elite clientele.

Entry into these high-level circles isn't based solely on money or strength. It's a closed, membership-only network that requires an internal recommendation to join. Members are usually nobles, wealthy merchants from across nations, or infamous rogue ninja—sometimes even entire rogue factions.

Suppliers for the arena are typically trusted insiders. They're responsible for acquiring and trafficking orphans from various countries who show potential for training. These children are then graded and sold into the arena based on their estimated aptitude.

You also learned from Boss Black Cat that not every town has a fighting arena—only the most prosperous cities are likely to host such establishments.

You used the sensory abilities that come with your Uzumaki bloodline, combined with your Transparent Escape, to scout the city. Sure enough, aside from a few hot springs offering "extra services," you didn't find any place resembling a fighting arena.

With no results, you decided to rest for half a day. Tomorrow, you'll head deeper into the Land of Hot Water and search other towns for traces of these arenas.

Back at the inn, you set up a temporary barrier, then took out the gold and chakra metal you'd looted earlier. Using Fire Release and Lava Release, you molded them into uniform gold beads for convenience.

The benefit of this is that it won't draw attention like carrying visible wealth would, but you also won't look too poor to gain entry to certain circles. While you're not afraid of trouble with your current strength, there's no need to invite it either.

...

〖Day Five〗

You sent out several Shadow Clones to scout nearby towns, while your main body continued deeper into the Land of Hot Water with Boss Black Cat and Konohamaru in tow.

Still, no leads.

Apparently, even in a lawless land like this, fighting arenas have to hide in the darkest corners.

Unbeknownst to you, Root had a similar facility back in Konoha—though one was for the amusement of nobles, and the other for raising ninja like livestock…

...

〖Day Six〗

As you moved into the heart of the Land of Hot Water, you noticed the streets becoming more crowded with individuals wearing luxurious clothing, surrounded by bodyguards.

The ninja here were stronger on average. Even jōnin-level shinobi were not uncommon. Compared to a major village like Konoha, the only thing this place lacks is a stable, Kage-level powerhouse.

No wonder it's considered the capital of rogue ninja.

Although you still hadn't found any trace of a fighting arena, that night, you came across a confrontation between a merchant caravan and a group of cultists.

Of course, this wasn't some law-abiding merchant caravan—it was a black market caravan.

The cause of the conflict? The caravan had dozens of children in its cargo—clearly acquired from who knows where. They had a barrier specialist on their payroll, so without a Byakugan or your level of ocular and sensory ability, it would've been impossible to peek inside.

But the cultists—somehow—sensed what was inside and attempted to seize the caravan's cargo for use as sacrifices to their dark god.

You observed from the shadows, watching as the two sides clashed.

To your surprise, the cultists were no joke.

They had absolutely no chakra in their bodies, and yet, through acts of self-mutilation and sacrificial rituals, they could unleash a variety of bindings and attacks on the shinobi.

These attacks came from nowhere.

Even with your Six-Tomoe Sharingan, all you could see was a brief, mysterious black thread forming between the cultist and the afflicted ninja at the moment of attack.

The cultists would then flail about with grotesquely shaped weapons, chanting mantras while drawing strange glyphs on the ground with unknown fluids.

The ninja targeted by these rituals suffered horrific effects—thorns wrapping their bodies, endless bleeding, rapidly depleted chakra, mental confusion, and more.

When a cultist completed their ritual and died in a gruesome self-sacrifice, the connected ninja would be engulfed in black smoke, collapse, and become completely incapacitated…

You weighed the risks and decided not to engage with the so-called "Evil God"—you still couldn't discern their full abilities.

And your own strength hasn't yet reached its peak.

Now's not the time to take unnecessary risks.

But… this was the perfect opportunity to make contact with the caravan.

Just as the cultists were about to wipe them out with their blood sacrifices and sheer numbers…

You made your move.

A single Fire Release jutsu vaporized the cultists on the spot!

From within the steaming corpses of the sacrificed cultists, a black mist rose—visible only to you—forming a gaseous entity.

You silently gripped the sword in your hand, Mangekyō Sharingan fully activated, your senses on high alert in case that thing pulled any tricks.

Fortunately, the black mist didn't act up. After floating in the wind for a moment, it seemed to find a direction and then vanished into the void.

...

In the distance, the leader of the caravan—still alive thanks to you—stood trembling, supported by two surviving ninja bodyguards.

He turned in your direction… and bowed deeply.
