Kuragami Uchiha noticed Shikaku Nara's subtle movements and saw through his intentions completely. With a slight smile, he asked: "Advisor Nara, do you think I'm right?"

Being called out by Kuragami Uchiha, Shikaku Nara knew he could no longer stay out of the matter; he could only bite the bullet and say: "Clan Head Kuragami's words do make sense."

What else could he say?

Could he possibly deny the will of fire right in front of the third Hokage?

Hiruzen Sarutobi remained silent, only speaking after finishing his pipe.

Kuragami Uchiha had repeatedly invoked the will of fire, leaving him, who always preached it, cornered.

After all, the will of fire was the foundation of his rule, something he had to uphold.

If he couldn't even maintain that, his tenure as the third Hokage would truly be nearing its end.

If they had been alone, he might have maneuvered the conversation differently. However, due to the threat of Kotoamatsukami, he always needed others present when speaking with Kuragami Uchiha.

After a long pause, Hiruzen Sarutobi finally set down his pipe and relented.

"Then let's proceed according to this. However, Kuragami, be mindful when enforcing the law. After all, these are still villagers of our own village."

"Understood." Kuragami Uchiha nodded.

"The Konoha Military Police Force will strictly regulate itself and follow the principle of enforcing the law with a smile."

... ... ...

That afternoon, the Konoha Military Police Force posted notices about the new law in every prominent spot in the village.

This naturally sparked heated discussions. Some villagers restrained themselves a little, but most still dismissed it.

After all, the last time the Konoha Military Police Force officially issued a law was back when the second Hokage first established it, and even then, it was about trivial matters.

Coupled with the Konoha Military Police Force's declining reputation in recent years, most villagers didn't take their authority seriously.

Instead, rumors now even included the Konoha Military Police Force in their gossip.

"So even the Konoha Military Police Force is standing behind that murderous maniac who hangs around with the demon fox brat?"

"Hmph, what's there to be afraid of? We still have Hokage-sama backing us. I don't believe they actually dare to arrest people."

... ... ...

As the days passed, Kakashi finally experienced firsthand what his father had gone through.

Every time he stepped out, he felt the stares of the villagers. Some bolder troublemakers even vandalized the Hatake clan's ancestral home, painting graffiti and throwing trash, just like in the past.

Naruto, who had been living with him, was furious at all this. Every time he heard villagers badmouthing Kakashi, he wanted to confront them. But whenever he tried, all he got in return were disgusted and fearful looks.

At this moment, Kakashi finally understood why his father had never reacted to those attacks.

When rumors grow large enough, any attempt to refute them becomes utterly meaningless.

However, his passive response frustrated Naruto, who was far more hot-headed.

Unlike the White Fang incident back then, this time, the Konoha Military Police Force took action just three days after issuing the new law.

That morning, Kuragami Uchiha personally convened a full meeting in the Konoha Military Police Force.

"In recent days, there have been numerous rumors in the village regarding former Anbu leader Kakashi Hatake. I'm sure you're all aware of the situation."

Kuragami said sternly from the podium.

"Kakashi is a hero of this village. He played a decisive role in the Kannabi Bridge battle during the Third Shinobi World War, ensuring our victory over the Village Hidden in the Stones. And yet, he is now being slandered with baseless rumors!"

"Even after we issued the relevant laws, these rumors have not only persisted but have even intensified!"

Kuragami slammed the podium.

"I now suspect this is no longer just idle gossip; it's an orchestrated effort by foreign forces to incite the villagers and tarnish our Will of Fire! Faced with this situation, can we, who were entrusted with this duty by the second Hokage, just sit back and do nothing?"

"No!"

The officers below were fired up. Over the past few days, while patrolling, they had also endured villagers accusing them of colluding with a murderous maniac, fueling their own anger.

"Since the day we were established under the second Hokage's orders, the Konoha Military Police Force has been the staunchest defender of the will of fire! Today, I, Kuragami Uchiha, swear under the emblem of the Hidden Leaf Village, our Konoha Military Police Force will uncover the truth behind this conspiracy and make those who attempt to undermine the will of fire pay the price!"

"All units, attention!"

With a sharp command, every officer in the room stood at attention.

"Salute to the village emblem!"

"Loyalty!"

The entire Konoha Military Police Force saluted in unison, shouting the word loyalty loudly.

"Loyalty!"

Kuragami returned the salute before continuing: "Today, everyone will drop their current assignments and fully investigate this matter. Every individual involved must be punished according to the law."

... ... ...

Soon, nearly 600 officers were deployed, including Fugaku Uchiha, who usually only managed the department's finances, was counted in and personally led a law enforcement team out.

The villagers, still indulging in their usual gossip about the demon fox brat and the murderous maniac, had no idea what was coming.

But as soon as they started spreading rumors, Konoha Military Police Force officers seemed to appear out of nowhere, arresting them and taking them away.

By noon, over 2,000 people had been arrested. Most were released after a fine and a stern warning once they disclosed the sources of their rumors. However, several dozen individuals whose involvement was more severe were immediately imprisoned.

Only then did the villagers realize the Konoha Military Police Force was serious this time.

Soon, the officers began noticing that all the evidence they had gathered pointed toward businesses owned by the Mitokado and Utatane clans.

Those two areas were the true origin of the rumors.
