"Got it," Minato nodded. He wasn't the naive, curious kid he used to be.

He understood enough about the darker side of the village to know why Xin didn't want anyone to know. 

If the word got out, it wouldn't do Xin any good.

In fact, it would only make certain people more wary of him. They wouldn't believe it was just a Genjutsu, they'd stubbornly insist it was the power of the Sharingan.

Especially the ever-suspicious Third Hokage and the always-paranoid Danzo.

"Let's go. The sooner we get back to the village, the safer we'll be. The news of the Sand Village's invasion needs to reach Konoha as soon as possible."

After a bit more rest, the three of them picked up their burdens and continued their journey.

"Who goes there?"

As they approached the heart of the Fire Country, they headed straight for a checkpoint. The fastest way to get the message to Konoha was to find the ninja on duty there.

They could use messenger hawks to send the news back to the village.

"Sir!"

Minato dropped his burden to the ground, raising his hand as he called out, "We're from Xin's team, escorting clients to the Land of Rivers."

"We encountered a Sand Village strike force on the way. Their army has invaded the Land of Fire. Please send word to the village immediately."

"What?"

The on-duty ninja was stunned.

Two of his comrades quickly checked Xin and his team's identities. Once verified, they attached the message scroll to a messenger hawk and released it into the night sky.

"Caw!!"

With a loud cry, the hawk spread its wings and flew into the darkness, carrying the urgent message.

"Rest here for now. If your information is accurate, you'll be heroes of the village."

Seeing that Minato and Mikoto were so exhausted they could barely stand, the sentry ninja quickly brought over water and some rations.

The sentry captain, Natsuki Kozou, turned to the three and said, "I'm Natsuki Kozou, the captain of this outpost. Could you please give us a detailed account of the enemy encounter? We need to relay this information back to the village."

"No problem," Minato replied after catching his breath. He began recounting the events while Xin sat off to the side, too tired to bother talking.

Truth be told, he was also exhausted, mostly from helping Minato and Mikoto bear the burden along the way. If it weren't for the potential complications, Xin would have gladly chopped up those three deadweights.

Why did they have to be so fat? he thought. They can't run, and now we're the ones left dragging them around, nearly killing us in the process.

"You took out an entire jonin squad by yourself?"

The outpost ninja were shocked when they heard that Xin had single-handedly wiped out a jonin squad. They eyed him with a mix of disbelief and awe.

"This is the enemy jonin's body. It should provide the village with valuable intelligence," Xin said, producing a sealing scroll.

The sentry captain quickly unsealed it, verifying the body's identity. When he saw the face, he confirmed both the identity and the validity of the information.

Minato hadn't lied, though the details were a bit off.
