Naruto: Konoha's Traitor

Chapter 81: CHAPTER 81

Sneak Attack

Chi Yu and the four Uchiha—Kyosuke, Keiichi, Ryuhei, and Jinye—had already located their mission target. A squad of Kumogakure shinobi was temporarily camped near a river, seemingly at rest.

Chi Yu turned to them and said flatly, "You four, move in when you're ready."

Uchiha Keiichi frowned. "Captain, Jinye's wrist and leg are still injured. If just the four of us attempt an ambush, the chances of success are... slim."

Chi Yu remained unfazed. "First, this is an order. Second, if you want someone to blame, blame Uchiha Kazuo. If he hadn't provoked me, I wouldn't be bothering with you."

His tone cooled further. "But he did provoke me—and now I'm angry. I trust you understand."

The four Uchiha were left speechless.

Did they understand?

They didn't want to.

It was Uchiha Kazuo who had angered Chi Yu—yet they were the ones being used as scapegoats? Was this really how a superior should behave?

Before any more complaints could surface, Chi Yu vanished using the Body Flicker Technique (Shunshin no Jutsu), leaving nothing but a gust of wind behind.

The four Uchiha sighed in resignation.

What choice did they have?

Gritting their teeth, they moved out.

---

The squad stealthily crossed the river, creeping toward the unsuspecting Kumo shinobi. From a tree above, Chi Yu observed them silently, hidden beneath the foliage.

Despite his harsh words, Chi Yu had no intention of letting them die—not here, not now. Giving them a hard time and exacting revenge were different matters altogether.

He could pressure them. Scare them. But letting them die in action? That would cause problems—not only for him, but also for Orochimaru.

---

The four Uchiha positioned themselves within the water's edge. The Kumogakure squad—clearly worn from travel—had dropped their guard, still unaware of the impending strike.

With a signal, Uchiha Kyosuke burst out of the water, launching a volley of kunai and shuriken.

Keiichi and Ryuhei immediately followed up, forming hand seals. "Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu!" (Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!)

Twin fireballs roared into the enemy camp.

Caught off-guard, two Genin failed to dodge, their bodies pierced by steel and engulfed in flames. A third Chūnin was injured in the blast.

The ambush was a success—three enemy shinobi down in an instant.

Kyosuke gave a slight tug—chakra threads connected to the kunai he'd thrown tensed. Explosive tags hidden among the wires ignited.

The Kumo shinobi noticed too late. The tags detonated in rapid succession, smoke and fire blanketing the area. One more Genin died in the blasts.

Amid the confusion, Uchiha Jinye emerged from cover, the tomoe of his Sharingan spinning rapidly.

"Genjutsu: Kōkai Gyaku Fūin!" (Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique!)

The Chūnin before him froze, eyes locked with Jinye's crimson gaze. In the illusion, massive iron stakes pinned his limbs to the earth.

Paralyzed, the Kumo ninja could only watch as Jinye calmly drove a kunai into his chest, ending him swiftly.

---

As the smoke cleared, the battlefield reset.

The four Uchiha now stood firm, bloodied but alive. Across from them, only seven of the enemy squad remained—four Chūnin, two Genin, and one Special Jōnin.

The Special Jōnin narrowed his eyes. "Four Uchiha? Together? Capture them! Don't meet their eyes!"

The remaining Cloud-nin surged forward as one.

The Uchiha squad responded with disciplined precision, scattering to break enemy formation.

Kyosuke moved solo, drawing the attention of the Special Jōnin.

Jinye, still wounded, stayed close to Keiichi for mutual support, while Ryuhei drew off two opponents by himself.

---

Kyosuke clashed with the enemy commander.

"Kumo-ryū Mikazuki no Mai!" (Cloud Style: Crescent Moon Dance!)

The Special Jōnin struck with the hilt of his blade, aiming for Kyosuke's temple. Kyosuke blocked with crossed arms, but the Kumo shinobi fluidly reversed grip and drove the short blade forward.

Kyosuke lashed out with a front kick, forcing the Special Jōnin back—but not before the blade grazed his chest.

"Katon: Ryūka no Jutsu!" (Fire Release: Dragon Fire Technique!)

Kyosuke expelled a narrow, high-speed stream of fire. The Kumo shinobi evaded with the Substitution Technique (Kawarimi no Jutsu), reappearing behind Kyosuke with a slash aimed at his back.

Kyosuke's Sharingan flared—he ducked low, narrowly dodging the strike and retreated, breathing heavily.

"Kumo-ryū: Hishō Jinrai!" (Cloud Style: Flying Thunder Blade!)

The Special Jōnin swung his blade, discharging a wave of chakra-infused lightning. Kyosuke blocked with a kunai, but the electric current coursed through his body, numbing his right arm.

Seeing the opening, the Special Jōnin pressed in, launching a flurry of attacks at breakneck speed.

---

Elsewhere, Ryuhei was struggling. His two opponents coordinated well, pressing him with relentless taijutsu and mid-range jutsu. His evasions grew slower.

Keiichi and Jinye were in no better shape. Despite their teamwork, they were being worn down. Jinye's injury slowed his reaction time; Keiichi's defense faltered under pressure.

Outnumbered and outpaced, the Uchiha had no choice but to regroup.

Panting, bruised, and bloodied, they stood back-to-back, surrounded on all sides.

"What now?! They're too strong!"

"Did he really abandon us?!"

"This can't be happening... He went too far this time!"

"Is this... the end?"

Their hands trembled. The Cloud-nin advanced.

Still, Chi Yu had yet to appear.

And as death loomed over them, the only sound was the wind—cutting across the river, where their commanding officer had vanished without a trace.
