Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Konoha Isn't Worth It
When Kakashi heard Chinya say that it was the entire village of Konoha—those who had abandoned the Will of Fire, yet manipulated him in its name—that drove his father to suicide, he staggered backward and collapsed onto the ground.
Kakashi painfully gripped his head. "I don't understand… Was everything my father believed in wrong?"
Chinya answered, "I don't think Lord Sakumo was wrong. It's just that these people weren't worth it."
Sighing, Chinya continued, "You've seen who they really are lately, haven't you? They know nothing about what really happened or the feelings your father had when he chose to save his comrades instead of completing the mission.
They not only insulted Lord Sakumo but blamed you as well—even when you didn't know a thing.
Everyone knows how much Lord Sakumo contributed during the Second Great Ninja War. But now, they've cast all those memories aside.
The belief that there are no divisions between clans like the Uchiha and Senju in the village, or that people truly trust each other—that's all a lie.
Konoha's people are cold and selfish. Whenever something affects their personal interests, they won't bother to consider any underlying reasons. They'll simply point fingers and accuse."
Kakashi clenched both fists tightly, his expression twisting with emotion.
"You're still young, so you probably don't know anything about my past," Chinya continued. "When I was your age, I was hated and ridiculed by everyone in Konoha."
Kakashi gave Chinya a puzzled look.
Chinya explained, "My parents were missing nin from Konoha."
Kakashi showed clear surprise on his face. He had never known Chinya's past—let alone that his parents were rogue ninjas.
Chinya let out a bitter laugh. "I bet you can't imagine why my parents became missing nin. It was because they fell in love. My mother was a member of the Uchiha Clan, while my father came from the Senju Clan. These two ninja clans have been bitter rivals for generations.
So, in the eyes of the Uchiha, my parents' love was an absolute taboo.
To be together, they fled Konoha. The Uchiha then pressured Konoha's leadership to brand them as missing-nin, forcing my parents into exile and pursued by Konoha shinobi.
Later on, my hiding parents accidentally revealed their identities. Other ninja coveted their bloodline. To protect me, my father died in battle, and my mother breathed her last right at Konoha's gates.
I watched as my mother died. Konoha had the chance to save her, but they chose to look away.
Afterwards, the Uchiha disowned me, and the villagers took all their hatred for the Uchiha and turned it on me instead. I was rejected by everyone and given a demeaning nickname—'Half-Breed.'
Neither my parents nor I ever harmed Konoha, yet all of us—father, mother, and I—were cast out and scorned.
The Will of Fire—a symbol of unity and sacrifice within the village. So where was it when the Uchiha and Senju still saw each other as enemies? What crime did my parents commit by loving each other?"
"Kakashi, do you really think this is the Will of Fire?"
Kakashi hadn't expected Chinya to have such a past.
Chinya stared intensely at Kakashi and said, "Kakashi, truthfully, I have no sense of belonging toward Konoha—I even hate Konoha. Because of Konoha, my beloved parents were forced into exile, and they even sent ninja to hunt them down.
Even if they accepted me, it wasn't out of genuine compassion. It was only because I carry the bloodline of both the Uchiha and Senju clans within me. They simply didn't want someone with these two bloodlines wandering freely outside—nothing more than that.
Earlier today, Hiruzen Sarutobi summoned me to his office. He truly doesn't care about you or Sakumo-san at all. All he cares about is Konoha itself. If Konoha were destroyed during war, then his position as Hokage would become meaningless.
Kakashi, this Konoha is full of coldness and darkness. It's also the very cause of our dearest loved ones' deaths. Is such a Konoha really worth our loyalty?"
A deep hatred flickered in Kakashi's eyes as he whispered, "It's not worth it at all—absolutely not!"
Chinya held out his hand to Kakashi: "Kakashi, you're just like I once was now—betrayed and facing the death of your closest loved ones before your very eyes. I am your teacher, I will be your family, and you can always trust me. As for me, I will never betray you!
So, Kakashi, are you willing to walk forward hand-in-hand with me as master and apprentice?"
Kakashi gazed blankly at Chinya's outstretched hand, yet inside, he already made a decision. He placed his small hand in Chinya's large one.
"Master Chinya, I'm willing!"
A faint smile curled on Chinya's lips as he pulled Kakashi up from the ground.
Looking toward the distant Konoha streets bustling with activity despite the nighttime—as if it weren't wartime at all—
Chinya and Kakashi stood silently in the tranquil woods, worlds apart from the village.
"Kakashi," Chinya told him, "we're not strong enough yet, so we still must endure quietly and hide ourselves within Konoha, waiting patiently for the right opportunity to leave this cage binding us.
Now let me tell you something. You've been dying to know who I was searching for in the Land of Grass, haven't you? I was looking for Kushina's clanspeople."
Kakashi asked in surprise, "You mean Kushina's clan? The Uzumaki Clan?"
Nodding, Chinya began explaining everything about Kushina Uzumaki to Kakashi.
A glint of coldness flashed in Kakashi's eyes.
Kakashi sneered bitterly, "They abandoned an ally in need, then audaciously sought out your former sensei who had long left the village, only wanting to use her as a Jinchuriki to control and exploit! Konoha… Ha!"
Although Kakashi had only spent just a few days with Kushina Uzumaki, he could clearly feel the concern she had shown him.
Therefore, hearing now how Konoha planned to take advantage of Kushina and turn her into a human sacrifice filled Kakashi with rage.
Chinya coldly replied, "That's why I want to find someone from Kushina's clan to replace her as the Jinchuriki. However, even if I do locate Kushina, it won't be easy to get Konoha's approval for such a replacement. Not to mention, after searching for so long, I haven't been able to find anyone from Kushina's clan.
Therefore, it's very likely that I'll leave Konoha with Kushina someday."
Kakashi blurted out, "Wherever you and Kushina go, Master Chinya, I will follow."
Chinya shook his head and said, "There's no need. Right now, staying in Konoha is the best choice for you. We still have some time left. Hiruzen Sarutobi has already urged me to head to the Land of Grass, so I plan to go there in the next couple of days for one last search for someone from Kushina's clan."
