Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Finding the Target
Kakashi's words — "Sometimes it's easier to hide in a crowd" — left Chinya completely stunned.
For a long time, Chinya had assumed that Karin's mother, living in hiding, would naturally choose somewhere less populated.
But he had overlooked the current situation of the Land of Grass.
The Land of Grass had become the battlefield where Konoha and Iwagakure vied for control. With Grass Village as the sole exception, practically no place in the entire country was safe anymore — battles could erupt at any moment.
Since Grass Village remained neutral now, Konoha ninja and Rock Ninja wouldn't risk attacking it without cause; doing so would spark unnecessary conflict.
Therefore, Grass Village was actually the safest place.
To escape the war, most civilians from across the Land of Grass had already fled there.
Although red hair was rare, the Shinobi World still had many unusual hair colors.
There was Kakashi's silver-white hair, Minato Namikaze's golden hair, and the orange hair of Pain's Six Paths.
Even Gaara, who would later have nothing to do with the Uzumaki Clan, also had red hair.
As soon as Kakashi said that, it was like a lightbulb went off in Chinya's head.
Originally, he thought Grass Village was the least likely place Karin's mother would go — but now, it was exactly where she was most likely to be.
Chinya happily ruffled Kakashi's head. "Kakashi, you're practically a genius!"
Kakashi shot Chinya an annoyed glance and smoothed down his disheveled hair.
After retrieving the ninja tools from the Rock Ninja's tool pouch, Kakashi followed Chinya toward Grass Village.
Chinya and Kakashi hadn't been back to Konoha's base since taking this mission. So, they had to rely entirely on the supplies taken from the Rock Ninja.
It wasn't far from their location to Grass Village, and they arrived near it a day later.
As Kakashi eyed the heavily armed shinobi posted at the gates, he muttered, "Damn, they're not messing around."
Chinya explained, "It can't be helped. Grass Village is surviving between two powerful forces. They can't afford to offend either Konoha or Iwagakure, so they won't allow any Leaf or Rock ninjas into the village.
Konoha and Iwagakure ninjas are strictly forbidden entry — otherwise, it would give the opposing side a chance to exploit them, providing justification to attack Grass Village.
So to avoid causing any trouble, let's use Transformation Jutsu instead."
Chinya and Kakashi disguised themselves using Transformation Jutsu.
Kakashi asked, "Sensei Chinya, are we entering through the front gate?"
Chinya shook his head. "No, the inspection at Grass Village must be strict now. Getting in will definitely cause us trouble. Let's find another way in."
Kakashi looked puzzled. "But if the security is this tight, how do we get in?"
Suddenly, Kakashi realized something. "Ah! Sensei Chinya, are you planning to enter using Genjutsu?"
Chinya smiled and nodded. "Clever. Follow me."
Chinya led Kakashi to the weakest guarded section of Grass Village.
He formed hand seals with both hands.
[Nirvana Resthouse Jutsu!]
"White Genjutsu feathers drifted through the air. Several Grass Ninjas guarding the area saw the scattered feathers and were unknowingly overcome by drowsiness, eventually collapsing to the ground in a deep sleep.
"Let's go, Kakashi."
Kakashi followed Chinya's back. Looking at the surrounding sleeping Grass Ninjas, he asked with interest, "Chinya-sensei, can you teach me this Genjutsu?"
"Uh... Kakashi, be a good boy. Let's not focus on Genjutsu. Or maybe I can teach you a C-rank Genjutsu instead? This one is A-rank, so don't push yourself too hard."
Chinya gently turned down Kakashi's request.
It wasn't that Chinya didn't want to teach him—it was just that Kakashi really wasn't cut out for Genjutsu like he was for Ninjutsu. Instead of fighting so hard to get good at Genjutsu, Kakashi should probably just stick to polishing his Ninjutsu.
Kakashi pressed his lips together. Previously, he had studied Genjutsu before, but somehow, though he could learn it, he struggled greatly while doing so.
Once Kakashi heard this was an A-rank technique, he decided not to push for it. Why force himself?
Chinya and Kakashi successfully entered the Grass Village.
Currently, the Grass Village could be described as packed to capacity, since large numbers of refugees had arrived. The streets of the Grass Village were filled with people sleeping rough.
Crying could be heard everywhere, and everyone looked worried and distressed. The atmosphere felt extremely oppressive.
Chinya and Kakashi walked down the street, witnessing this scene. Though their expressions remained neutral, their moods still became quite heavy.
That was the tragedy of small ninja villages—powerful villages controlled their fate. Watching helplessly as their country became a battlefield, they could do absolutely nothing. They could only survive by squeezing through the cracks and hoping for someone's mercy.
Kakashi quietly asked, "Sensei Chinya, with so many people, how should we search?"
Chinya answered, "The chakra of the Uzumaki Clan is exceptionally powerful. So if any of Kushina's clanspeople are in the Grass Village, it will be easy to find them. Let's check area by area."
Karin possessed powerful chakra and excellent sensing ability. As a member of the Uzumaki Clan, her talent was unquestionable.
And Karin had inherited this talent from her mother, so her mother's chakra should also be very strong.
[Kenbunshoku Haki]
Midway through checking, Chinya suddenly stopped dead in his tracks.
"I found someone!"
Through his Kenbunshoku Haki, Chinya had sensed a human with tremendous chakra.
"Let's go, Kakashi!"
After searching for so long, they might finally be about to find who they were looking for. Chinya felt extremely excited in his heart.
After all, no matter what happened later, the prerequisite was to find this person first.
Chinya and Kakashi hurried toward the detected location.
The place they arrived at was a food distribution center.
In the long line, Chinya immediately spotted a red-haired woman.
This red-haired woman looked pale and emaciated, clearly malnourished from not eating for several days."
Chinya stepped in front of the red-haired woman and said, "I've got some food I can give you. There's also something I want to talk to you about."
The red-haired woman looked at Chinya with dull eyes. "I don't think we know each other."
Chinya continued, "That's true—we've never met. But I do know someone from your clan, and I can get you out of this terrible situation. I can give you a life a hundred times better than what you have now."
When the red-haired woman heard Chinya mention knowing someone from her clan, her pupils briefly constricted.
"I'm sorry, but you've mistaken me for one of your kind!"
After saying that, she abandoned her place in line and hurriedly tried to leave.
Chinya firmly grabbed her arm and said seriously, "I mean you no harm. But I'm not asking for your permission. If you come with me quietly, I'll explain everything. If not… I won't ask twice—I'll take you by force."
