Naruto: Kushina's Redemption, My Revenge

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Long-Term Mission

Chinya met Sakumo Hatake at the Konoha base in the Land of Grass.

Sakumo Hatake approved Chinya taking Kakashi as a disciple.

Sakumo asked, "Chinya, why did you come to the Land of Grass? From what I know, the situation in the Land of Hot Water has stabilized now. The Land of Grass usually remains peaceful without any intense battles.

"If you're seeking combat experience, wouldn't you find more frequent fights against Sunagakure ninja in the Land of Rivers?"

Chinya replied, "Lord Sakumo, I came to the Land of Grass not for battle but to search for something. Therefore, for my next mission, I hope you can assign me some reconnaissance tasks and grant me certain freedom."

Sakumo raised an eyebrow. He came all the way to the Land of Grass... just to search for something?

Sakumo assumed Chinya had received some secret mission and didn't ask further.

He asked again, "Then how much freedom do you require exactly?"

After thinking for a moment, Chinya said, "I hope that after locating Rock Ninja during my reconnaissance and determining their numbers, I'll be allowed to attack on my own initiative. This way, I can also teach Kakashi through actual combat experience."

Sakumo immediately agreed, "If that's all your request entails, I can accept it. But let me remind you, Chinya—you must never overestimate your strength. Immediately retreat when facing squads with four or more members, and don't prolong the battles, lest reinforcements arrive."

"Rock Ninja are very cunning and cautious. They generally won't engage in battle when outnumbered, and if they encounter powerful opponents, they will decisively withdraw and summon nearby Iwagakure reinforcements, creating situations where they gang up on a single opponent.

"Because of their craftiness and caution, Iwagakure has established strongholds within the Land of Grass with numerous ninja stationed there, so you must exercise extreme caution."

Chinya solemnly replied, "Please rest assured, Lord Sakumo. I won't put myself or Kakashi into dangerous situations."

Nodding, Sakumo said, "Then I'll give you and Kakashi a long-term mission. Rock Ninja have many hidden bases within the Land of Grass, which pose significant threats for future conflicts.

"As long as these secret bases exist, Rock Ninja will always have faster access to reinforcements than us.

"Therefore, you and Kakashi will investigate Iwagakure's concealed bases inside the Land of Grass and then report them back to me.

"You may decide the departure date for this mission by yourself."

Bow deeply, Chinya said, "Understood. Thank you very much, Lord Sakumo!"

Chinya and Kakashi left Sakumo Hatake's quarters.

Kakashi remembered Chinya had promised to teach him the magical Total Concentration Breathing once they arrived in the Land of Grass. He couldn't wait to begin.

Eagerly requesting Chinya teach him the breathing method, Kakashi looked expectantly at his teacher.

Looking at an enthusiastic Kakashi, Chinya smiled slightly and asked, "Kakashi, your mask should be pretty breathable, right?"

Puzzled about why Chinya would ask such a question, Kakashi answered, "Yes, it's quite breathable."

Half an hour later—

"Sensei Chinya, I can't breathe!"

Kakashi's mask had several layers of cloth stuffed into it by Chinya, making its breathability downright terrible.

Now Kakashi struggled just to breathe normally, feeling as if someone was gripping his throat.

Chinya's smile turned slightly wicked. "Already can't handle it? If this is too much for you, then just wait until later. From now on, you must wear this mask at all times unless I tell you otherwise."

Kakashi looked stunned. "Huh? Even while sleeping?"

Chinya explained to Kakashi, "Of course. Didn't I already explain the breathing technique to you before? It requires your blood to absorb large amounts of oxygen quickly, enhancing your physical abilities.

At your current level, you're far from being able to absorb enough oxygen to boost your body's capabilities. So the first step is to strengthen your heart and lung power.

But still, you'll have rest time..."

Kakashi's eyes lit up as he looked expectantly at Chinya.

Chinya said with a smile, "You can take it off briefly when eating or drinking."

Kakashi immediately deflated. "What kind of rest time is that anyway?"

Chinya ruffled Kakashi's hair. "Alright, today is just for getting used to it. Tomorrow we'll start reconnaissance missions. Don't even think about removing the mask when I'm not around. If I find out, you'll be in big trouble."

As Chinya spoke, Kakashi couldn't help but shudder involuntarily.

Kakashi immediately assured him, "Rest assured, Teacher Chinya! I absolutely won't take it off!"

"Good. Then go do whatever you need to do."

Chinya turned and left. A ninja approached him—someone sent by Sakumo Hatake to arrange accommodations for Chinya.

The ninja led Chinya to a room. After entering, Chinya asked, "Excuse me, do you have a map of the Land of Grass?"

"Yes, here."

The ninja pulled out a map of the Land of Grass from his ninja tool pouch and handed it to Chinya.

"Thank you."

Chinya accepted the map, turned, entered the room, and closed the door behind him.

Standing outside Chinya's room, the ninja stood there slightly open-mouthed, his mind in chaos.

Just what was that about?!

He never said he was giving the map to Chinya—he only meant for him to glance at it.

How could Chinya just take the map without even asking?!

The ninja left in frustration. He didn't feel comfortable asking Chinya to return the map.

It was just one map after all—he could always get another one.

Back inside his room, Chinya carefully examined the map of the Land of Grass.

Based on Chinya's earlier assumption, Karin's mother hadn't yet joined the Grass Village, but she was likely somewhere within the Land of Grass.

The Land of Grass was small, but finding a single person within its borders would still be quite difficult.

Still, by ruling out certain areas, he could drastically reduce where to look.

Firstly, naturally, was the Grass Village itself.

Secondly, eliminate the bases of both Konoha and Iwagakure, narrowing down the area considerably.

But Chinya wasn't sure whether Karin's mother lived in seclusion or resided with others, so locating her would indeed be a major undertaking.

Chinya began marking the map, crossing out places unlikely to be where she was.

The next day.

After finishing her morning routine, Chinya was about to set off with Kakashi on a mission with the added objective of searching for Karin's mother.

As soon as she opened the door, her eyes fell upon the floor and froze for a moment.

There Kakashi lay, soaked in cold sweat, his face extremely pale.

Clearly, it was a case of oxygen deprivation.

Kakashi said weakly, "Teacher Chinya, my head is spinning, I've got no strength left, and I can barely breathe. Can I just take it off for a second?"

Chinya squatted down in front of Kakashi and spoke in the gentlest tone, yet her words were the coldest: "Nope. You've got to push through this, not wait for it to beat you down. No debate—we're heading out right now. Get up and come with me."

Kakashi kept rolling his eyes, grumbling inwardly about how Chinya must be a devil. Not even a trace of mercy after seeing him like this?
