Chapter 4: CHAPTER 3
"It seems that the blood of the Otsutsuki has begun to transform my body," Shigure muttered to himself as he walked toward the ninja academy, his thoughts heavy with the recent changes he was experiencing.
Shigure had no trouble entering the ninja academy, as he was already familiar with the layout and routine.
Upon arrival, he took the only seat left. The graduation exam was already underway.
"Hey, Shigure, I heard you were hospitalized. How are you feeling?" a girl at the same table asked.
Shigure turned his head, observing her. She had fiery red hair, a clean and neat appearance, and a cute face. Her skin was as pale as milk, and her eyes held a soft, gentle expression. The chakra flow around her was unmistakable—this was a Hyuga clan member.
"I'm fine, thanks for asking," Shigure replied politely but quickly returned his attention to the class, not offering any further conversation.
Shigure secretly activated his Byakugan, his eyes scanning the chakra flow of everyone in the room.
"Well, this group is far below the level of the Third Hokage in terms of chakra control… but they are just kids after all."
Still, a few of the students stood out to Shigure. The chakra flows of some of them were different—particularly those from the Uchiha and Hyuga clans. No surprise there, the chakra patterns felt familiar.
"Next, we will begin the graduation exam. Today's test is the same as before," the examiner announced. "I'll call your names one by one, and as long as you pass, you'll graduate." The examiner began reciting the names of the candidates.
"First, Hyuga Hongdie!"
A shy red-haired girl walked to the front, and Shigure noted, "Hyuga Hongdie... that's her name."
"Your test is the Transformation Technique!" the examiner instructed. "Transform into me, and we'll begin!"
Hyuga Hongdie performed the necessary hand seals, and with a puff of smoke, she transformed into an exact replica of the examiner.
Shigure's Byakugan flared to life, allowing him to see the chakra flow in minute detail. He noted, "The energy used in this technique is chakra, and it looks like she's using the seal to release it. However, her chakra control is a bit off—she's wasting a lot of it. Still, her transformation is good enough to pass."
Sure enough, the examiner announced, "Hyuga Hongdie passes."
The exam continued, and Shigure effortlessly understood each of the Three Basic Techniques as they were demonstrated.
The examiner called out another name. "Uchiha Eiji!"
A black-haired boy walked to the front with an air of arrogance, giving Shigure a challenging look. The meaning was clear: a provocation.
The class turned their eyes toward Shigure, who remained unfazed, leaning on his desk as if he were sleeping.
"This guy's bold," one student whispered. "He's ignoring Uchiha! I bet he'll get beaten again."
"Uchiha Eiji, the 'genius' of the class. I wonder if he'll pass the exam..." another student muttered, unsure.
"You will perform the Clone Technique," the examiner instructed, clearly unaware of the tension in the room.
Eiji completed his hand seals with precision, and a clone of him appeared, briefly standing in place before disappearing.
Shigure, though seemingly asleep, was observing closely. He silently assessed Eiji's chakra flow.
"This guy has no real talent. His chakra reserves are larger than most, but he wastes it. He's not using his chakra efficiently at all. The clone technique disappeared almost immediately. What a disappointment."
Hyuga Hongdie, sitting nearby, was equally confused by Shigure's blunt assessment. "Shigure used to be the worst in the class... Why is he so brave now, criticizing Uchiha Eiji like that?"
Eiji's expression darkened at the comment, and the atmosphere in the room shifted awkwardly.
"Haha, what a joke!" Eiji sneered, turning toward Shigure. "The Clone Technique is a basic jutsu. There's no way it's imperfect. Do you think you can perform it perfectly?"
"Uchiha Eiji, you've passed. Return to your seat," the examiner said, looking at Shigure. "And Shigure, since you're so confident, let's see how you do with all three techniques."
Shigure nodded. "I'll start with the Substitution Technique."
He stood up and walked to the front of the class, forming the hand seals with fluidity. In an instant, there was a puff of smoke, and Shigure's body transformed into a log, while his real body appeared at his seat.
The class was stunned.
"When did he...?" one student gasped.
"Report to the examiner: the Three Basic Techniques are complete," Shigure said, casually resting his head on his desk.
"E-excuse me?" the examiner stammered. "You used the Substitution Technique... but how did you...?"
Uchiha Eiji, still scowling, stepped forward. "That's impossible! He didn't even do the hand seals for the Clone Technique properly! How can he use the Substitution Technique like that?"
"I declare Shigure has passed," the examiner said, shaking his head. "I saw him use the Transformation and Clone Techniques earlier, but what you didn't see was the Substitution Technique. He's already a step ahead of you."
Eiji was confused and frustrated. "What...?"
The examiner explained, "Shigure performed the transformation using a clone, then swapped it with a substitution. He never performed the techniques in the usual sequence, but rather all at once. Even I didn't catch when he made the seals!"
"But how did he manage to control the Shadow Clone Technique?!" Eiji demanded. "That's a B-rank jutsu! How did he do it?"
The examiner gave a sigh of exasperation. "How should I know? You'll have to ask him yourself."
